Speechless, so Skyrim is announced! Looks like Pete Hines' marketing nukes were delivered by Todd Howard at the VGA's. The game is set to release in less than a year...wow, I can't believe we called it. I look forward to the next game informer magazine!!!! WOOHOO!!!

So, any idea when we, who can't get our hands on the magazine, can expect information?
I'm just going to say that I will avoid the forums like a rotten mudcrab when everyone's talking about screenshots and gameplay information and I have no way to see it :(

I have one word for you, just one: calipers.

Imagine, if you can: 34 different sets of calipers, realistic caliper physics, 100+ caliper-based quests. I would say over 70% of the man-hours put into Skyrim so far have been toward the goal including more calipers in the game by any means necessary.

I didn't know we'd be playing as M'aiq.

I'm curious as to whether or not there will be any information prior to the GI cover. If not, that's probably for the best seeing as I'm directly in the middle of finals.

My friend will never see his February issue of GI when it comes out. Already decided I'm going to raid his mail.

Freaking awesome! I renewed by subscription just in time! I'm like seriously salivating right now. Oh, the screenshots and info and . . . excuse me, I've gotta change my pants.

This is great news! I was very disappointed in the lack of calipers in Fallout 3 and really felt as though you guys really dropped the ball in that regard. With 34 sets of calipers, I should be able to measure every square micron in Skyrim.

I think the game should also include lockers and the ability to shove caliper-loving nerds into them. O'Doyle rules!

My friend will never see his February issue of GI when it comes out. Already decided I'm going to raid his mail.

Be sure to go in with plenty of Invisibility potions.

*Marks down January 6th on his Calendar*

I wonder if they've been developing this game longer then we think?

id bet money that they had people doing storyline plots concept art...etc...as soon as OB was done. even while they were working on Fo3. aslo thiink of thiis...they used the same engine as OB with only minor tweaks. which im sure left some people without much to do. so these people most likely where woking on V.
also remember they started FULL production when Fo3 DLC was done. whiich pretty much means they definatly where working on it longer than most assume.

How long do these magazine exclusivity deals last these days? Assuming, say, two weeks would mean screenies are about 5 weeks away for those of us who won't buy GI. Kinda annoying, but there's a lot of money involved and this way some of it goes to continued TES game development, so i guess it's good.

Haha... Ha... Oh, I totally planned on receiving this February issue. I love Game Informer, you know. Really. It has nothing to do with the 10% off used games with the PowerUp Rewards PRO card that just so happens to come with a subscription to GI. I was just planning on receiving this specific issue all along. Thank you, Game Informer! :whistling:

I just got an answer from gstaff on bethblog.com that might interest other non-americans.

Me: That’s great, but what about those of us who can’t get our hands on the gameinformer magazine? When can we expect more information on Skyrim?

gstaff: @Faulgor… it shouldn’t be that long after Game Informer

Of course, "not that long" is just as vague as "soon". But better than nothing, I guess.

So what normally is previewed in a GI cover? Screen shots + interviews I'm guessing?

Screenshots, articles on various gameplay elements, possibly articles about a sequence of gameplay the reviewer(s) watched or played. Sometimes short topics about any changes made to the game (in DA2: art style change. In Tomb Raider: Croft's character design overhaul. Et cetera).

Gosh! Holy illegal magazine scans!

Can't wait to see if the game looks like like Oblivion with beards ( Fallout3) or more like Rage :P

A leak would be information Bethesda wouldn't want getting out. This would merely be information that subscribers would get earlier than everyone else, and would encourage others to get subscriptions. How is that bad business? I personally don't know when retail will get the new issue as I have never paid attention, but it is the February issue. I would at least expect it a week after subscribers get it.

I obviously meant scans of the article hitting the web. Who's going to buy a copy if there are scans available a month in advance?

Anyway, so we could settle this, I just called Gamestop. They don't have the current issue (Tomb Raider) on display yet, but they will in the coming days. And I specifically asked him if they put it up within the same month. I got my issue on the 10th, and somebody in the speculation thread got it even earlier than that, but just because we get them a few days earlier doesn't mean we get them an entire month earlier.

Hey, way to connect McNamara's tweet with the Feb. cover! I guess I need to tone down that skepticism of mine! :P

*turns down skepticism meter*

@Antibody: thanks for posting this! I can't wait to see some screenshots!

You know on the GI site they said that they have been working on the story for months so thats a good sign, but think that means right around the time when Todd said "we are ready to announce soon but now isn't the time" (parapharsing) that is when GI probably knew about this. I wonder how many of the GI employees have been on this site laughing at how much we were talking about TESV. But hopefully they looked at some questions we had so they ask good ones.
