Is Skyrim the only true open world RPG this year?

Post » Sun Oct 02, 2011 4:43 pm

After watching many gameplay videos of Dark Souls, I'm yet to be convinced that that game is open world, another game Rage looks more open than DS but how open, we don't yet know. Is this a trend where developers are beggining to call their games open world, when clearly they aren't. What do they consider to be the definition of open world? The first example I can think of is Fable 2, even though they didn't actually say open world, they certainly implied it.

The only game I can think of for next year that looks to be open world is Dragons Dogma.

Pretty much. There's a real lack of these sorts of games anyway.

Then again I'd honestly say it's hard to make them succeed and for them to be challenging.

It's pretty old!

I wouldn't consider Dead island open world. AND it has Oblivion's level scaling problem.

Though the resolution is pretty solid and the frame rate is butter smooth. However, the gameplay is lacking, particularly in the "jobs" department.

I don't like the touch-feedback feature.

The touch-feedback feature is my favorite part of Real Life the Game. It's good in single player, but the feature really shines in co-op mode.

AFAIC Bethesda is the only one making "true" open world RPGs.

Saints Row 3 is an open world RPG

No... RPG doesn't mean you have to wear armor and cast spells

No Saints Row really is open world , I'm pretty sure that 1 second into the game you can cheat for an aircraft and go anywhere cause you could in the 2nd one and in the 1st one I'm pretty sure you could have driven anywhere at the start... it is 100% open world

ins aints row 3 there are side quest type diversions. you get rewards such as unique weapons and boosted stats (15% more health, 5% more bullet resistant or explosive resistants, X% more vehicle durability that kind of thing). so yeah saints row is to a lesser extent an open world RPG. and a damn good one :celebration:

There's always Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning coming out in Feb 2012.

Looks pretty cool to me.
