Is skyrim the right choice?

Post » Sun Oct 24, 2010 3:15 pm

It's not even the snow that gets me, it's the probable lack of fantastic structures. Look at the cantons of Vivec, or the glorious hallowed halls of the Dwemer. I hope I'm proven wrong, and Beth implements buildings truly worthy of a high fantasy game, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Also was slightly concerned, but from the concept art my hopes are up and it looks like they'll be very creative with style.

Hammerfell the home of the orcs would have been intresting as well.

Orsinium is home of the Orcs... a small part of Hammerfell the remaining land is all Redguard....
Oh and I had personally wanted Blackmarsh... or all of Tamriel, that would'a been nice to!

It is the right choice in my opinion. Felt more home in Bruman than anywhere else in Cyrodiil.

Good I'm not the only one that went "Look... hytta mi!"

"Hytta mi" . . Bergensk gjeld ikkje her . . xD

Yep, I found the architecture and nature a little more appealing in the northern areas of Cyrodiil :)
But thats just my opinion. I just hope there also are greener areas in Skyrim, not just fall and winter.

The main area I'm looking forward to Winterhold, which is a very Dunmer influenced city. Hopefully they'll include it in the game.

Especially after playing tons of Fallout, I was leaning towards a lush, tropical environment such as the Summerset Isles, but honestly, with all the alien architecture and soaring towers forged of "colored glass like insect wings", etc, Summerset just sounds like a place that's probably better left until the next generation of console hardware hits. So yeah, I'm happy with Skyrim.

It's obviously far too late to change it, but Skyrim would have been my LAST choice of where to take the series. I was unimpressed with Bruma, and the OB MQ forced me to spend about as much time as I could stand in the Jerall Mountains before returning to "warmer" lands. Solstheim was my least favorite part of the Morrowind game and expansions, and I could never manage to force myself to stay there long enough to complete the BM main quest even after years of playing, and in spite of having done the MW and TB main quests several times. I never played a Nord character (but played all others at least once), which I consider my least favorite race (Bosmer are second, by a moderately wide margin, thanks to the squeeky noises they make when hit, and Fargoth).

I would have loved to see a game set in Black Marsh or Elsweyr, and either the Summerset Isles or Valenwood would have been almost as welcome. I have no objection to the game moving to Hammerfell or Orsinium, but I'd prefer not to see the game go back to High Rock, Morrowind, or Cyrodiil until we've seen the other provinces. Anything but Skyrim. All I can say is, I hope the RP gameplay aspects are really good, or I'm going to be seriously depressed. If it turns out to be a shallow and generic "hack and slash" title set in Skyrim, the worst of both worlds in my opinion, that's one less sale for Bethesda.

I like the idea of skyrim. A more rugged terrain, harsher landscape, more tribal culture, men sounding like they'd knock you on your backside if you fool around.

Jut look at norse lore and stories like Beowulf (Do you wonder if the game is based on the poem lol) Hell after watching that film I wanted to play a game where the world was like that.

All furs, axes and drinking mead! "Give me my mead wench!"

And where better to have a game about dragons than in a barbarian mimicing society!

1. Skyrim is not all snow. It has mountains, rocklands, Tundra's and looking at map from the Video, we will also have a Volcanin Tundra (can't wait to see that XD)
2. Who said that Skyrim doesn't have fantastical structures? Nords ain't just some drunk barbarians who can only build wooden cottage's. There will do doubt be some nice structures, Labyrinthian (can't wait to visit that famous place from TES1: Arena) and the ruins also seem to be great looking (judging from a screenshot in GI magazine)

skyrim in my opinion would be the best province to base an elder scrolls game.

Yea the differences in what kind of Khajiit you become was a bit of a surprise in Infernal City. It'd be amazing if you had a Khajiit mount (brother) as a Khajiit character lol

Snip

I agree with you to a degree, but from the look of the concept art and map, it's actually going to be quite imaginative and diverse. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

To be honest Skyrim is the las province I would have picked, I never where interested in Nords that much (since I'm a nord my self in RL probably :D) and the set up and cultural things in Skyrim are not that exciting. I'd prefer to see something fare more exotic - Morrowind and Shivering Isles where the best! :) But at last Skyrim means that they are hopefully done with human provinces we got Redguard from Arena, imperials form Oblivion, Nords form Skyrim.... Oh wait, still Bretons left, so the next one is going to be in High Rock... Anyway I'm all for non human cultures.
Eidt: I forgot Daggerfal, we actually have High Rock. so now all hunam once are done! Yay! :D

I think Skyrim is a pretty good choice.

Solstheim was really awesome. It stands as my favorite expansion to an Elder Scrolls game to date. It only gave me a taste of Nord culture, but I want the whole cake ;)

we got Redguard from Arena

Arena is set in ALL Tamriel, not in Hammerfell.
Daggerfall tough happens in parts of High Rock and Hammerfell (more exactly, its border). However, the chances of a future story happening in High Rock or Hammerfell is as high as other provinces.

Well actually, they made parts of them. They could make other parts of them or a full province in the future, whether that be as a game or an expansion.

Anyway, a note on Norse people having pretty boring buildings and style (opinion). It probably won't be too much of an issue. I mean the water tribes in Avatar (series) were based of inuit culture, but Inuits never made anything like this, did they?

So they could really have all kinds of awesome stuff.

I couldn't care less what province they use as long as the game comes out. I would have prefered Black Marsh though. I hope that Skyrim is not all snow, I liked the variety that of climates that Cyrodil offered. Looking at Bruma which is the city that looks the most like Skyrim it would look pretty boring and dull if every town/city in the game was like that. Maybe make buildings out of Ice or something cool like that.

And I hope Morrowind isn't all lava-world. Oh wait...

Haven't you seen the Skyrim map in the "behind the scenes" video?

I was dissapointed for a second, until I saw the trailer. I always though the Nords were very dumb in the games. But they have made them epic like the sagas of old with Skyrim!

The art-direction is very much like Conan mixed with Demon's Souls so it will be very epic.

It appears there will be tons of awesome architecture and dungeons so now I think it was the perfect choice!
