Skyrim: The Time-Lapse Video

You are not getting it. The whole thing is from 2009. The paint-over is to help them improve the game, make it look more interesting. They take screenshots of a scene in the current build(which in 09, that screenshot was probably current) and then turn it into concept art. They then show that to the world builders, modelers and so on, for them to make improvements on what they already have. The point is to IMPROVE the game. Which is why the artist made the troll bigger and more terrifying. Of course its not going to look the same.

Oh I thought the concept render was recent. The artist drew over that pic in late 2009 as well or was the concept art recent?

I seriously doubt BGS is doing much concept art at this stage of development.

The Video says "Screenshot paint-over of cave troll. Late 2009." That means he did the paint-over, and recorded the process, in late 2009.

The concept art is old too. The artist was trying to give direction on how to improve the game. That improvement will since have been made. The troll in the screenshot could be very different to the trolls in the current Skyrim build, and there's a good chance it moved closer to the concept art troll (or they wouldn't be showing us it).

I chose Screen Shots of Races, But I kinda want to see how the Alchemy works. I hope they changed it up a bit from Oblivion.

Hopefully not. If they are still redoing the way trolls look I fear for what else isn't done.

They definitely wouldn't debut this wildly anticipated game with outdated screenshots. What in the sweet name of Akatosh are you talking about?

Never said anything about outdated screenshots, do those screens look bad to you ? They certainly dont to me, but what I am saying, they will not release the best stuff yet and to think they would makes you naive and foolish, or at least eager and wishful ( too much so ) to be thinking realistically IMO.

There is actually a screenshot of a troll in the magazine, and it does look much bigger and improved IMO.

Well when I said "Why would they show outdated screens if they had better ones available?" You said "Build up my friend [...]"

But I agree that they're saving the really juicy stuff.

Page 55? I wasn't sure whether to call that a werewolf or a troll  I still don't think it's conclusive. I'll look it over with fresh eyes in about fifteen hours.

It's definitely a troll. Werewolves don't have three eyes.

Is that a waterfall to the left? Too bad the pic isn't in color.

The day the magazine came out, a dev confirmed it was a troll because everyone and their mother was crying werewolf.

Nice job, thanks.
If this screen happens to be demonstrating an early form of the HUD-less 3rd person I would be quite - nay, very - happy. Camera close to PC and off the sword arm seems like it could be quite playable and with no compass, the way the play the whole game! (Perhaps flicking to first person to get compass bearings??)

It was okay, but possibly the least informative article yet. I was really hoping for a "The world of Skyrim" and see some environments or architecture. Maybe by weeks end.

I think the last thing they release (I mean the very last) should be the theme for download....I think that would be amazing.

Did bethesda know in 2009 that gi would need stuff to put up on the hub so they recorded this?

I think a lot of big devs, like movie productions, just record lots of stuff, including interviews, throughout development... it's all potentially useful for promotion and the collectors edition making-of DVD.

Fist thing I noticed on the page, and I am surprised everyone clanging for more technical information have not delved into this, but...

There are an awful lot of biggish birds who look mighty aggressive in that picture.

Uh..yeah the concept art utterly destroys the screenshot. The modified troll scares the [censored] out of me. I want the mobs to be menacing not puny. Having that said I like the fact that they draw concept over screenshot gives the devs a chance to look at what they have and what they need to improve upon. The music was very good and it does grow on you. I can foresee many instances where that music would work well in the game. Leave it to Jeremy Soule to compose something so flexible.
