Skyrim: The Time-Lapse Video

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 5:19 pm

Fist thing I noticed on the page, and I am surprised everyone clanging for more technical information have not delved into this, but...

There are an awful lot of biggish birds who look mighty aggressive in that picture.

I don't see birds?

Does anyone have an idea when the building of Skyrim started? Was it 2009?

Did bethesda know in 2009 that gi would need stuff to put up on the hub so they recorded this?

Perhaps, but more than likely the artist recorded it for his own purposes. I'm sure he is just waiting for the chance that he can release all his work to the public and as part of his portfolio. Many artists will do time-lapses of their work, so its not surprising that they would have a few of it. I'm sure he doesn't do it for every one though.

Well when I said "Why would they show outdated screens if they had better ones available?" You said "Build up my friend [...]"

But I agree that they're saving the really juicy stuff.

Thats because I thought you were using the term outdated as if they were not top notch screens even if they were done in 09"

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/01/18/skyrim-the-time-lapse-art-video.aspx
just to make sure we are looking at the same thing.
top of the page, not part of the video.

Bear, dead mammoth, birds, snow, nord.
staff in the left hand, sword in the right, shield on the back and a sheathed axe

[] c'mon, 80 pages of speculation, a throughly deconstructed 8 page spread and I am the only one to notice this?

[2] makes sense, too. If there are dragons, and they attack cities, meaning the aeronautics issue has been dealt with: why restrict the birdies from the game?

Screenshots from 09 would be outdated, no matter how good they look, because they wouldn't represent what the game looks like now, unless they haven't improved it at all. The so called "build-up" you are talking about is being done with what they are taking screenshots of, not when the screenshots were taken. They will progressively show us more interesting, but still current, screenshots. It makes no sense for them to show us screenshots, no matter how good they are, of content from 2009 if they can show us what it looks like now.

Ugh! Is this vid up on youtube yet? Trying to watch it on the GI site is proving to be an exercise in futility.

If you have a shield on the back and a weapon sheathed how can you have two other weapons in your hands? What happens when you want to sheathe those?

I understand that it is concept art, and parts may be more art than concept, but I was just describing what I saw for people who didn't want to investigate the picture.
But since you asked, the sheathed weapons could be applied to your body depending on what you have hot keyed.
[] meaning that more than one sheathed weapon could be present at a time.

The new music was really nice and should give us something to listen to til we get a dev diary. The two pieces of concept art were okay. That first one we've already seen from the behind the scenes trailer and after http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1159725-monday-gi-hub-update-discussion-thread-4/ recycled information from the magazine article I think they are running out of info to share. The time lapse video was really cool showing the making of concept art but I kind of felt this update was lacking.

They should have shown all the concept art on the walls if they were going to do a update solely on concept art. Like the three pictures of dwarven architecture in the Todd Howard Interview and the dragon picture in the whiteboard room in the Behind the Scenes video. Giving us a clearer version like they did with the one snowy mammoth scene.

I'm not disappointed but I just think this was a little lackluster and they could've given us more then two concept art pictures.

There's a screenshot of the new frost trolls on page 55 of the GI Article. Although it's a early screen it doesn't look nearly as good as http://oi51.tinypic.com/vwwjn5.jpg. The cave troll or whatever that was in the video looked remarkably more menacing and scary. They definitely carry a considerably more sinister look to them then the http://images.uesp.net//1/1a/OBCreature-troll.jpg in Oblivion. I don't think the actual difference will be as good as that in the video though. Basically white but same look to them as the Oblivion ones. I'm hoping they have some creature though that looks as good as the one in the time lapse video.

I wonder if the behind the scenes was recorded in late 2009?

It wasn't or they would have had to tell GI about the game, and it would have been leaked before then. The interview is recent. Like I said, the time-lapse was probably done by the artist for himself initially.

In fact, if you want to look at another time-lapse he did for a non-Skyrim piece, check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_AngqeFtdjQ

There is so much to show how could they have run out?

and this poll is way too optimistic...i doubt it'll be any of those. Maybe a cryptic interview. No substantial info or screenshots.

I think that the Time-Lapse Video was really cool, but I was hoping for something along the lines of screenshots of the races. Hey, but it was still cool. I did like the wooly mammoth concept art. :celebration:

i doubt it also that the next update will be any of those from the poll, the next update is likely to be a interview video with one of the bethesda developers

Really? You are easily amused.

Is beeing easily disapointed any better?

The update was good, two senses satisfied at once with music and art...

The screenshot is nice in details quantity, but if there isn t a loss in quality it totally fail on bringing true 3D. Its just look like 3 layers superimposed.
I dont know why or what causes that.
Maybe too much details in the distance and in the middle, maybe too crisp...something in that way.
If you concentrate in something "near" IRL you loose focus in the background and vice versa.

The movie is cool and impressive in quality but not impressive as it is a drawn contruction, and ain t related to the game, most game have awesome people drwing concepts.

The problem here is that all the options in this poll would require them to reveal USEFUL information.

What do you mean by "drawn construction" and how is this not related to the game? How is this not very skilled? This is professional level concept art.
