Is Skyrim the worst of TES series so far?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:28 pm

Answer only in YES or NO. If you must, make only a brief comment.

I would say Yes.

And think, if you answered no, do you still play it constantly?

No. Oblivion is the worst because its the first one built for the console and there was only so much the ck could fix. At least for skyrim, they did a much better job on graphics.

No, but then I haven't played all of them.
(And even then, you can have a "worst" in a series but still have a good game/movie/etc. Like, "worst Pixar film")

Play it consistantly? No, but I never played any of the other Beth games consistantly. I'll play one chataracter until I feel "done" with them, then take a break and play other games. Months later, I'll load up a new set of mods, play a new character. Did this with Oblivion, did it with Fallout 3.

No Skyrim is far from the worst.

the main thing bringing it down is people who outright lie about the games features in an attempt to make it look worse then it actually is.

No. Oblivion was by far the worst so far. Skyrim carries over a few of its flaws, but they did at least fix some of Oblivions more glaring mistakes.

I have now 495 hours on Skyrim and am still playing it. I was done with Oblivion for good after just two weeks.

Morrowind was on the Xbox too, just saying.

I would say Yes and no. There are some things that were spot on, and some things that were completely off putting, but if I must coose one, I'll change my answer to no. And thats a reluctant no.

And think, if you answered yes, do you still play it constantly?

Morrowind was on the Xbox too, just saying.

Let's be accurate. Morrowind was PORTED to the Xbox. Morrowind was DEVELOPED for PC. The port happened to be a good port from PC to console.

However, starting with Oblivion, Beth developed for console, then ported to PC. The problem with this approach is not the it is inherently bad, but rather that it is quite apparent that the subsequent games (i.e., Oblivion, FO3, Skyrim, and including FO:NV with Obsidian) were not optimized for PC versions, unlike what happened when Morrowind was ported (and optimized) for Xbox from PC. In all likelihood, the main reason for this problem is lack of overall development time. However, that is really no excuse, especially considering that Beth's games have enjoyed global success post-Morrowind (plus the fact that PC is the standard gaming platforrm in various other global markets).

As far as the OP is concerned... honestly, I can't say at this point. I'd lean towards "NO" because of the setting and potential for modding and DLC, but we don't have everything yet. Frankly, even mods may not fix the issues for me unless a decent body mod is offered (preferably Type 3 slim becoming the standard for apparel). Right now, it seems like the standard will be far too "hefty" to put it nicely. Such a body doesn't fit at all with fairy, elfish build nature spirits (my characters), so I'm uncomfortable, right now.

Yes, Bethseda should have used the Fallout series for mass appeal and left the Tes series the way it always was. The release date and steam partnership says it all, this series derailed. I will even go so far as to say in time Oblivion will go down as being a much better game. Skyrim is the first Tes game not to get a new engine, like all the others.

Oh and to clear things up Oblivion was the last tes game developed for pc and ported to consoles, im pretty sure about that.

Depends.

If you're primarily into combat and adventure, Skyrim is definitely NOT the worst in the series, and may even be the best.

If you're into choices and consequences, variety in weapons armor, clothing, spells, and architecture, and playing in a world that isn't obviously "locked" to the player's level, then it may be the worst since Arena.

I was enjoying the smarties and their "morrowind was on xbox" bit. Now you've gone and educated them.

What? Skyrim was better than oblivion most of the latter regards, such as level scaling. Also... aside from the MQ, Daggerfall was more level-locked than Skyrim.

Flamebait, I'm guessing. And another excuse for people to say "TES IS GOING DOWNHILL!" without having to back up such claims.

1. Skyrim
2. Oblivion
3. pre-Oblivion

No, I'd give that to Arena. But Arena was pretty much all dungeon crawling.

I know, I was just being a smart ass. I'd perfer if TES was developed for PC and then ported to consoles.

What a stunningly boring thing to do. Wouldn't you rather express opinions, compare thoughts and stir up discussion?

Of course you could have made this a poll if you didn't want people to express their opinions.

The only people that should be allowed to give an answer to this question are those who thoroughly played every game of the series right after it came out.

Therefore I will not answer.
