Skyrim Theme in Sound Interview needs louder/more defined ch

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 11:29 pm

So you can find the video here, the theme plays near the end: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X78Zg9WfzeA.

My opinion is that, although it is an early and a relatively low quality video/audio, the theme should have a more defined choir, they don't have to record anything new, just mix it differently. I find that the reason why so many video game soundtracks sound so bad in comparison to film ones is because they blend all the instruments and vocals at the same volume or whatever and the results are very muddy and not poignant enough, and it is a shame because the acapella version of the theme is truly beautiful and the strings should only support the choir rather than be on the same level. But anyways, I'm no music major or anything and this topic seems very minutial. I also hope that some of the music sounds like that of Arvo P?rt, I especially like the silence that he uses in his music. I sometimes explored the world in Oblivion listening to this and it made a very beautiful, atmospheric experience. This particular song I think would work perfectly, but I always found that it felt sort of fake playing custom music in the game because there was no battle music and it didn't go with the flow of the diverse landscapes or situtations: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxDc24zSuzU&feature=fvst.

Yeah, I think it's great. The fact that the choir and the music is basically on the same level adds a certain quality to it that I love. It's almost like without one, you couldn't have the other. They belong together in a way that wouldn't be the same if one was significantly louder than the other.

I think the theme is perfect the way it is.

Otherwise, I'd want it to not have a choir at all. The viking choir is certainly fitting, but I'd prefer to hear music without vocals if I leave my game at the menu for a few minutes.

It's almost perfect. I would like if it was a bit longer. Superb nonetheless.

When the song strikes you to the very soul when you listen to it, it is perfect. So yeah, no changing mah Skyrim Theme.

It's almost perfect. I would like if it was a bit longer. Superb nonetheless.

We haven't heard the whole theme yet.

You do realize that it's probably a low-quality recording we got of it out of that vid, right? It probably sounds exquisite on his professional sound designer setup.

Does anyone feel the same way I do when I play an elderscrolls game? Sometimes when I start up the game, or just the launch menu, I don't feel particulairly enthusiastic or excited, but whenever the Morrowind or Oblivion intro comes in I have no choice but to play?

I think there is a good balance between the instruments and choir. I wouldn't change it!

Nah. I'm quite fond of the low, almost Gregorian choir - it has this powerful bass to it that sends chills down your spine and gives you goosebumps.

Upon listening to the song several times I think it might just be the instrumentals that I don't like, and not the volume of them necessarily, but I'm positive the high quality version will be good and seeing as the game is several months away there are probably some tweaks to come. It just still has that fake video game music feel to it, atleast to me, I listen to a lot of soundtracks and as much as I love some tracks from games like the Elder Scrolls, Fable, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, etc. I can't help but notice they don't have that quality that films or some modern composers do, and I don't think budgets can really be blamed seeing as video games seem to make more $ than movies nowadays.

I'm picturing it as the music that plays when I beat the [self-censored] out of Alduin. :flamethrower:

That video is really low quality. There is a definite loss in the low and midrange frequencies, Wait until we hear the full high quality version.

First time I thought the horns/trumpets were a bit too loud, but it's not too bad.
What they should do is repeat the choir (or part thereof) without instruments.

You're judging the piece based on a low quality mono recording recorded from speakers?

Well... it cuts out right after the climix, and starts to return to the start of the song. So no, they played the best part.

Is the choir to quiet or is it that the music is too loud?
