Skyrim Trailer anolysis - by IGN

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 3:37 am

I just noticed this on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8n1c3hsLZo

So I thought I could share it with you! :)

After watching it, I can summarize it by saying:
We know more than IGN and IGN seem a bit uninformed.

Still, they're too excited about the game. A lot it seems :celebration:
The video is best for not having to slow-motion or pause things yourself.

The more I see of it, the more I realize IGN may not have that much insight in the game.

Did he just call Skyrim a "zone" within Tamriel? Oh my god, he must be from WoW.

EDIT: I never noticed the NPC during the flyby of Markarth, however. I'd simply assumed they hadn't populated the town yet, but it seems like the place has a much larger scale than I thought. Interesting!

The more I see of it, the more I realize IGN may not have that much insight in the game.

Look at this comment:

1:30 - they don't even know who Akatosh is.

1:40 - dragons can't terrorize all of tamriel? due to cliffracers.

1:50 - they don't know who the dragonborn are in regards to lore.

2:00 - lack of knowledge of Skyrim's "Tongues" showing.

2:48 - fire sets rock on fire. The more you know!

2:55 - looks a lot like armor featured in Bloodmoon.

3:00 - european low fantasy is less generic?

3:05 - he didn't yell, he vocalized a spell in the dragon's language

... I give up...

Lol yea that cracks me up. I love it when other news groups cover Elder Scrolls games because most of them are clueless about the lore or what is actually happpening. IGN is especially bad about just making crap up! To be fair though Game Informer tried really hard and did a great job with their articles.

You say that as if that is deadly serious lore and not just a dev's joke. :P

Actually, I was pretty impressed by the one guy who actually knew about the Falmer at all. Much better than your standard non-informed game journalists. (I remember some guy from IGN claiming that Miles Edgeworth was a 'new character' for Ace Attorney Investigations. Now that's stupid. ;))

I personally dislike IGN, their take on everything is pretty naff.

I've watched their reviews for a couple of games. Sometimes they're right, but most often they aren't.

GameInformer did a great job with those hub updates as grimdeath said.

According to these guys:

"Markoth"
Skyrim has more major cities than Oblivion
1000 Steps instead of 7000

They meant more cities that are big, akin to the Imperial City.

Yeah i picked up on that. One of the things Todd has mentioned in interviews and podcasts is the enphasis on 7000 steps, yet they get it wrong?? where the hell do they get 1000 from? Also, absorbing the dragons power and learning a shout? I thought you absorbed the dragons soul and in doing so the words on certain walls would glow, which you would then activate to learn the shout, correct me if i'm mistaken.

made for casual gamers. One thing is that i didn't notice the guy they picked up walking across that bridge, how small is he compared to that city lol.

Which is true, Oblivion had half a city, some smaller towns and a few houses build together. Skyrim will probably have 5 major cities, some towns, some smaller towns and villages which is more (35 settlements with at least 10 houses each).

Yeah I think you're right about the shouts.

I think the guys that talked are excited about Skyrim, but hasn't payed too much attention to hub updates by GI and magazine covers.

Another prime example of IGN not knowing pretty much anything about what they are talking about... <_<

Ah, that wasn't too bad - at least they sounded genuinely excited about the game (then again, who wouldn't be after watching that trailer).

What I hadn't spotted was the NPC on the bridge in Markarth; that gives a much better impression of the scale of the scene (ie, colossal).

Why are you guys so hard on IGN?

What do you expect from a bunch of emo stoners who do nothing but play every single game released for every platform?
