Skyrim Trait System

Post » Mon Apr 12, 2010 3:18 pm

this is a continuation from "Skyrim Perk System".

i realized that the word perk made a lot of people think of Fallout when it was brought to my attention that that Tes 2 Daggerfall had a system called the trait system that was used at the beginning to give your character small + - traits that made them an individual.

heres a http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:ClassMaker#Special_Advantages to see the traits. new ones would be welcomed.

in the last poll a few wanted a system to pick a skill related perk when that skill hit benchmark (journeymen, expert, master). you would get to pick one ability, spell, power out of a list that was at that lvl. like journeymen marksman you can choose one of 3 abilities that corispond with that skill.

denock - self explanitory

speed shot- you quickly draw the bow string now to make a speed shot but as a penalty you have a -30 to acuracy

find arrows - this could be a spell or ability but essentially it allows you to find arrows you've fired

each other bench mark woul allow you to pick 1 of a new set of skill plus ones you may have passed up so at master you could potentially choose denock if you got tired of not being able to cancel a shot or something more advanced like double arrow fire where you fire 2 arrows into a single target causing double damage.

quest line is self explanatory but i would like to see it through the Nine or Daedra

I like traits but at the same time we have the whole Birth sign/Race thing so its already there in a way.

I mean I like new ways to create my character but I doubt TES might make a whole new set on this since they've got this done in their own way.

But hey if they do, I won't complain :)

TES 2 had one along with the birth signs and racial traits, they'd just have to rebalanced it for their game and add it in again.

I chose I have my own idea because I never played daggerfall and I'm not sure if my idea is the same as yours.

What I think would be cool is if whenever you ranked up a skill (apprentice to journeyman etc.) you got experience points for the skill to choose perks. The amount of points you get is determined by 1) is it a major, minor, or miscellaneous skill 2) does it match specialization and 3) Is it governed by one of your two favored attributes. There would be several perks available at each rank of a skill, and you could choose any perk for any rank achieved. Each perk would cost a certain amount of points, and since there would be so many, you would be able to customize your character a lot more. I can think of a lot of perks not included in Oblivion, but just to name a few, hand to hand could offer a tackle ability, marksman a quick kick to give you space, spear (assuming its included) could have a perk that allows you to throw it short distances, all armor skills could offer improved spell effectiveness, reduced weight, or increased armor health.

I forgot how much I liked Daggerfall character creation. Why can't they just put all the games together and make the best game ever?

if the skill progression traits were balanced enough then i wouldn't mind that.

i like the daggerfall system idea.

i want to have powers, similar to racial powers, from completing certain daedra quests/ nine divines quests. similar to the chaos embarrassment spell in oblivion.

I loved the trait system in DaggerFall. It added extra constraints to role play with.

Although, for usability sake for the noobs it should have a label next to it saying "If you are new to the Elder Scrolls series leave at default"

Traits in Daggerfall were very fun so I voted for that. :)

Like Daggerfall. Want an ability? Choose a disability. Allows for some additional fun in character generation (in addition to birth sign), but some of the nastier exploits should be avoided. Probably why they were removed in the first place. For those new:

But, I'd like them to be very creative with it.

your idea sounds nice, thanks for the link hoblak

i like...

dagerfall system

gaining perks from learning them from other people or learning them yourself (killing your first daedra might give you a little bonus, killing 10 daedra might make that bonus slightly better) (but no mastery levels, suddenly being able to do a lock pick at level 50 is stupid when you were unable at level 49. same as any sudden advances)

birth signs (on top of daggerfall system)

I like the concept of the Daggerfall system, although it was hella broken in terms of balance. Still, I think they've learned a lot since then, so I'd be happy to give it another shot. While they're expanding our customization option, maybe we could get more leeway with the spellmaker too.

thanks Hoblak for the link i added that into the intro for people who are unfamiliar with Daggerfall.

i would like to see them bring it back but with a re balance and some new additions to it.

A nice mixture of Daggerfall, Morrowwind and Oblivion would work. Not sure how, but I'd like it haha

If they toss that birthsign system and return the advantages/disadvantages, I think everyone would love it. The birthsigns were a lame alternative.

Well the could just give us more birthsigns but give each one good and bad effects. I found it stupid that the birthsigns were like "The Mage" or "The Steed". Where are the nine divine and daedric prince birthsigns? I don't want to be born under "The Lover" I want to be born under Sheogorath and get a Wabbajack greater power.

Now that! is creative. You made my night man, that would make for an interesting system.
