Skyrim VS Two Worlds 2

Post » Wed May 15, 2013 10:33 pm

I been playing some less known Open World games and found this game called "Two Worlds 2", at first it looked kinda mediocre since the Character Meshes, Textures and Lip Sync look real bad... like something out of 2004 or older (Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines has all this much much better), anyway as i played through the game i noticed few things i wish Skyrim had implemented, the first thing i noticed is that the Hero "hair" seems to have some sort of physics, yes you read right PHYSICS not just some Skeleton/Animation trick, the second thing that brought my attention was that the Grass, Bushes and Trees seems to have some sort of Physics since they move as if you were pushing them as you pass, it that was great!

After a couple minutes of gameplay i was allowed to wander and i noticed few BIRDS flying and landing in the ground!! (very nice) and found this EXTREMELY BEAUTIFUL cliff were you could see the ocean with ACTUAL WAVES! i threw myself into the ocean and noticed few fishes and other creatures, it was really cool!

As i played further i saw a NPC wearing a Cloak that was physics enabled and yet again not an animation trick! it was physics 100% and finally noticed that the was game was using PhysX, guess i did not payed to much attention when the game was installing but it seems Two Worlds 2 heavily uses PhysX, which is cool i guess.

So this "Two Worlds 2" actually have some of the things i was expecting and wanting from Skyrim, but i have not played that further but what i saw was AMAZING, there are some drawbacks in this title like i did not noticed any Weather System, Textures are HORRIBLE and Character meshes looks somewhat old... it also it svcked that i was stuck to that Boring Hero with little customizations for appearance, race and gender but i guess the story is unfolds about that character like in "The Witcher".

I have not played that long but the story also seems ok, not bad but not boring either, maybe it will become better as i play?

If i were to compare it with Skyrim i would say that Skyrim Looks Better, Feels much more alive but some things and lack of features make Skyrim look rather mediocre, it is post 2010 and Bethesda can′t get the water to act "right"... oh yes! they can make the water look nice but seriously a flat mesh with an animated shader is all we get from Bethesda? the ocean has no waves and the rivers do not flow as it is supposed to? aw COME ON BETHESDA!

Skyrim

Havok: 6

Graphics 8

Textures 8

Weather Engine: 8

Art: 10

Character Apperance Customizations: 9

Magic Crafting: 2

Story: 5 (Seriously, they derserve it for not finishing the Civil War)

Enemy Variation: 7

Animation: 7 (Yeah, Bethesda still needs to improve their animations A LOT)

Two Worlds 2

PhysX: 9

Graphics: 7

Textures: 6

Weather Engine: 2 (Day & Night only)

Art: 8

Character Apperance Customizations: 2

Magic Crafting: 9

Story: 7

Enemy Variation: 8

Animations: 7

Overall Skyrim is still a better game, but i am amazed of how much detail Two Worlds 2 has all over the place and it was released in 2010 (i think) and it is still a rather good alternative to Skyrim, i am amazed as to why TW2 is not more widely known as it is fairly decent, and some of the features are just worth it since Skyrim just lacks some key features.

Just wanted to share this with all of you, this is not a Rant but more of a recommendation for all the people who love Skyrim, you may enjoy TW2.

Didn't Beth add waves with the Dragonborn DLC? Anyway, I played Two Worlds 2 back when it launched. I never beat it and I'm not really sure why I ever stopped playing because I was having fun with it. I had just gotten a boat to sail with too.

Your arbitrary rankings mean little. Especially considering you have graphics, textures and art. as individual categories when they are really lumped as a single aspect.

Why does Skyrim have a 2 for magic crafting when it has no such system?

The Civil War was not part of Skyrim's story. It was a side quest chain, so it should not factor in at all in your evaluation.

Your gripe about Skyrims water is rather unfounded. Their method is not unique to Skyrim nor do most games have animated waves. Two Worlds 2's water only really stands out if you use DX10, which Skyrim doesnt support, so its a rather unfair comparison.

Ironically that is about where I stopped as well.

Also, to be fair, those waves in DB are rather terrible.

I haven't played Two Worlds II. Played the first one briefly, didn't like it.

But from what I've heard (and what little I've seen), Two Worlds II is supposed to be a lot better. I've seen some videos and it does seem to have some nice graphical environments. And I did see a character creation video that showed the flowing hair. That was pretty cool.

TW2 is and will always be in my top 10 of all time. Great game, indeed.

While some of the systems in TW2 were better than Skyrim (crafting and spell-making), the overall package was pretty generic still. And I played through the entire game. There were zero quests that felt inspiring and the though enviroments were diverse, the NPC's were extremely bland.

Yeah, your opinions are worth a Penny for me too, thank you for your reply.

Yes, it`s a form of Magic crafting and i find it very limited.

Skyrim overall is a much better game, it just the lack of some features that are present in most modern successful games from the big Developers houses that has me believe Bethesda is somewhat a mediocre developer.

If I recall correctly, TW2 has terrible enchanting, limited to the 3 basics of fire, ice and lightning. Where as in Skyrim it has a fair bit more.

It would be more balanced of an evaluation if you separated enchanting from magic creation.

I found Two Worlds 2 to be a fairly weak experience all-around. However, I do agree with you that Skyrim would have benefited greatly from a superior magic system and better physics.

But, do you really consider Bethesda to be a "mediocre" developer? I dunno if I see that.... I mean Bethesda created games like Morrowind, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Skyrim. These are some of the few games that stood the test of time with me. I can always start up Morrowind and enjoy myself with the world they've created.

I consider Bethesda to be a top-tier developer...right up there with Valve. But that's just my opinion of course.

You're just reminded me that I have Two Worlds GoTY and Two Worlds II in my Capsule library. I've played a bit of the first and actually was enjoying myself, so perhaps I'll pick it back up when I have a bit more time.

Morrowind is a master piece, Oblivion was ok and Skyrim is great in its own... and at the same time Mediocre, the land mass in Skyrim does not feel as big as Morrowind or Oblivion, also it seems many features were cut down in order to Dumb Skyrim down, like the ability to have a personal conversation with each and every NPC as in Morrowind, also they sort of removed many features like ability to dodge.

NPCs feel kinda dull in Skyrim, Even Oblivion seemed to use more Physics than Skyrim, i remember ropes and even roots hanging everywhere, tons of stuff you could grab and move around, things that acted realistically, tons of physics based traps... which saddly are not too common in Skyrim, they are there just barely used.

What happen to the Character Facial emotions? the character looking at people and smiling if he liked them? GONE, but brought back thanks to a modder who made it possible in less than 2 weeks.

Why there are no flying birds? oh wait... a single modder added a masterpiece called "SkyBirds" in less than a month.

You can throw fire from your hands, send people flying through the air, slay legendary and ancient Dragons and even manipulate time itself! but good luck swinging your sword underwater or in mid air... good luck trying to dodge like in Oblivion.

I have no idea why Bethesda removed so much features from Skyrim, but i do think they are mediocre because they can′t keep up with modern features which a ton of other modern games are using, even from the small Developers are starting to use new technologies from a couple of years back, they are still stuck to a 32 bit APP with DX9.0c which is extremely Old and not being able to fully utilize more than 2 cores (lets not argue this) they seem to always find ways and reasons to keep cutting features and stick to older technologies, which in my opinion makes them seem Lazy or Mediocre at coding... should we mention the OCEAN of Bugs, CTDs and Glitches Skyrim experienced in the first 5 months of release?

Don′t get me wrong, they still have great things as developers, but if their next game cant add hair and cloth Physics and Actual Ocean Waves i am going to laugh my ass off (Seriously STOP USING A FLAT MESH WITH SHADERS, this is 2013) i also hope they dont get rid of jumping... they tend to cut player actions each new game.

Also anyone noticed how Skyrim hates to let you fail? i mean you can die... but failing quests? i remember Morrowing and Oblivion tons of stuff could happen that could just prevent you from completing a quest and it was fun! but in Skyrim you just cant fail Quests... i want to be able to fail quests, Bethesda please dont hold the player hand because he may be too afraid of failing a quest, [censored] happens as in real world and that was one of the things i loved from Oblivion and Morrowind... the randomness of the whole world.

Two Worlds 2 is not superior to Skyrim, even TW2 budget is not a match to the budget Skyrim had... so why cant they keep up with modern features? why do they keep cutting and dumbing the game down? why cant they code right (1.9 lip sync anyone?) Bethesda is an ocean of secrets... or just plain lazy, still Skyrim is one of the best damn RPG Game i ever played, if not the best... but seriously, stop using that GameBryo 1.2 called "Creation Engine" and start taking advantage of ID and John Carmack and their tech.

Ha! I left out the word "in". That is just a cheap phrase I throw around with my buds. It translates into...

"I understand what you are saying."
