Skyrim's undergrowth

Post » Thu Aug 20, 2015 9:06 am

It might seem like a boring topic, but I just think that there should have been taller and more brush and plants in forests. Also having tall hay would have been nice. I know skyrim already lags, and adding more plants and brush would have been horrible, but where I live it's just thistle and willows up to your head whenever you wander beneath the trees. Thoughts?

I loved all of the waving Gold Coast grass and all the flowers and bushes in The Great Forest in Oblivion. It would have been nice to see a little more of that kind of thing in Skyrim.

I believe Bethesda had a tundra landscape in mind, which in real life, looks like http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/media-live/photos/000/001/cache/high-sierra-tundra_190_600x450.jpg

I actually like Skyrim's landscape. Plus, having longer grass would make it easier to miss dropped loot from enemies. That stuff is hard to find sometimes!

Lol, that too! Sometimes I have to switch to 3rd person to get a bird's eye view to find the bodies.

Same. I have a thing for collecting Cultist of Miraak masks from kills. Their brown robes blend right in and that bit of yellow colour also mimics the ankle deep foliage. I've spent ages overall searching for those cultist bodies, but I got 53 masks now :D

I wouldn't want too tall of shrubs so I can view the horizon and choose my path.

If your character uses any magic, you should eventually be able to purchase a detect dead spell tome.

Edit: if you don't find it first

It's terrifying! I looked out my door today, and somebody has stolen and entire mountain range! I live in the foothills of the Blue Mountains of Oregon, and today it is just a lot of blue, with no mountains at all! What's that got to do with this thread? Eh... nothing... but I was going to say that if you go into those missing mountains and take a walk in the forest, you will find very little brush or grass in many places. The pine needles fall and cover the ground, and grasses and weeds can't get enough sun and air to grow. Lodge pole pines grow so close together that not enough light actually gets to floor of the forest for most plants and brush to grow.

If the forest is NOT managed by forest service regulations, small forest fires occur on nature's schedule to wipe out all of the debris that is laying there, leaving the forest floor clean for many years. If the Forest Service enforces its regulations, huge fires occur frequently, and destroy everything in thousands of acres, trees included. Then the standing dead wood with no needles becomes fodder for even bigger fires later on, and allows brush to grow where it naturally wouldn't...

I've never seen such a spell...

I'm not sure if a particular DLC adds it though since I have Legendary Edition
