Skyrim, a vehicle for our imaginations.

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:18 am

To begin, I'd like to say thanks to everyone who has posted here. I have always dreamed of creating the perfect video game ( from the time I broke the bank on line numbers on my old Atari 800xl! ) and reading all our input over the last few months ( in this forum ) has blown my mind. I never dreamed that were so many people that want the intelligent, immersive, detailed, rich and varied experiences that modern computers have the potential of offering. Every post on this forum has something to say about what all of us want to do in our lives ( virtual or otherwise ) and more importantly for a video-game, what we do in our imaginations! Bethesda will never be able to meet all of our expectations but so what!? The level of graphical, social, and ecological realism that will be presented to us on 11.11.11. will be astounding. But, ultimately for some of us.. not good enough yet! Do not despair! I firmly believe that with the inclusion of the Creation Kit and if we take some time everyday to learn the mechanics of this, we will have one of the greatest creative tools ever offered to the public in the history of mankind! Want a simple mod? make it yourself! Lets be a fearless with our exploitation of this world simulating tool, as Bethesda was when they said " Let's let the public make their own mods! " I believe that I am correct when I say that Bethesda will provide us with a set of tools that will allow our imaginations to be brought to life, and even better, flourish. Everyone, keep posting your ideas no matter how small! and a better idea, pick up some small 3d mesh making skills ( learn-able in a few days ) and I say start the modding now!! The chicken wire meshes are gonna translate no matter what! Let's blow ourselves away!

I'm already beginning work on a Complete Tamriel mod with a group that's starting up. After running some general numbers, it'll likely take about 4000 NIFs to make everything needed. But if all that is done in the mean time, then the only thing left is to assemble it in-world.

Okay.

Interesting fact: You used 13 exclamation marks in 18 sentences. That got me pumped up.

Why wait until Skyrim to learn how to mod? Morrowind, Oblivion and both Fallout 3 and NV have modding tools that most likely won't be too much different than the Creation Kit. I say take some time to learn the basics of those and try to make a few simple mods before Skyrim comes out, so you're not jumping into the Creation Kit blind.

Wonderful post, and indeed, that's why I do love modding, and creating/developing games in general. I worked on some high-profile mods for the Battlefield series and on an indie game, and intend to use the gained experience to initiate a Total Conversion for Skyrim. Concept isn't final, there's still hesitation between a Star Wars based mod, or a completely new heroic-fantasy mod (kind of what Nehrim did with Oblivion). For now we are a team of 6 people, each specialized in a different field, so it's looking pretty good for the Project. Development will probably be begining mid-summer, and I'll probably be recruiting intensively then.

I'm still not fixed on the Subject though. Rather a Star Wars or a heroic-fantasy mod? You guys probably know the community better than I do (I'm still fairely new to the active modding scene)

What do you want most? What do you think the community would want most?

you forgot the exclamation point on , " That got me pumped up." it should be , That got me pumped up!!!!!!!!, exactly where our fertile minds should be. Darn, it was so hard not to use an exclamation point on that last sentence. P.S. Frodo is short, didn't brush his teeth in 1300 pages of literature and also never pooped once.

Ooh, aren't you fancy with your "xl." And all I had was plain ordinary Atari 800 (and 400).

Anyways, I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do to Skyrim. I'll probably start out with the small tweaks like I always do, then move on to bigger stuff.

Lol, I did have an Atari 800, but my rabbit shooting programs ( and other weird things i used to code ) really came to life when the 16bit system came out! Ahhhh... the Action cartridge. anyone remember that? It compiled your basic programs to machine language then ran them!! Fastest word adventure ever!! and not bad 400 x 800 graphics. or was that 800 x 400? With 3 colours too.

Don't need to brush when you've got another hobbit's tongue in your mouth as much as I do.
