If Skyrim was a real place

Post » Tue Mar 08, 2011 11:40 pm

If Skyrim was a real place and you somehow got teleported there what skills would you pick (or just what would you do)?

(keep in mind that this being a "real world" and you are just a regular man or woman so running into the first dungeon and getting yourself killed probably wouldn't be on top of your to do list)

I would pick :
illusion - invisibility and chameleon are priceless , charm spell would make me popular with the ladies, and so on ...
conjuration - why fight when you can cower in the corner cloaked and let the Dedra do your fighting for you
alchemy , maybe as a job

anyways , lets hear it...

EDIT
( and lets assume you get teleported in a town , not in the middle of a monster infested forest, and you are naked ...err, maybe not naked , but no guns and cell phones either)

Um, I'd most likely be a traveling mage, always wearing heavy clothing such as a face wrap to counteract the cold (Me loves the warmth), and traveling to different cities around the province, studying with the mages and spending most of my time in libraries, looking through dusty old tomes.

I might settle down, but only after a long time of travel.

I would learn archery, daggers, alchemy and I'd be a thief.

Me? Knowing my luck, I would be teleported to some bandit-ridden forest in the middle of a wintry night, without my clothes or possessions, miles and miles away from civilization. I can't imagine the wildlife would do me in unless I intentionally bothered them, so at this rate it'll be either exposure or bandits for the most part. Both cases would be bad; horrible for the latter, since there wouldn't be much I could do if a group of armed, reasonably physically fit, unscrupulous, morally questionable individuals predominantly represented as men were to assault me. At most I could pretend I was a nymph with magical powers, or something.

Agh, no, sudden Skyrim teleporting is bad for me. I end up dead and worse. End story.

or just what would you do?

Tamriel is a very dangerous place to be in, and being dependant on the modern conveniences of today, I would probably die from a Giant Rat pretty quickly :P

Well, if I was lucky enough to get teleported into a town/city and then get a job, I would probably live a bit longer, until one day I go down the basemant and gets ambused by a Giant Rat that sneaked into the building :P

A philosopher and religious scholar, most definitely, possibly a historian to boot. Assuming, of course, I managed to set myself up well enough to actually be able to pore over ancient texts day-to-day and publish research and such - lacking any such ability, I'd probably just be some farmer or other craftsman. You've got to make a living, after all.

But being able to just sit back in my study and peruse old tomes and the latest publications of my colleagues over a cup of tea and honey would be absolutely wonderful (though I'd assuredly miss the internet and everything I knew before, but eventually I'd get used to this strange new world).

I would focus on mercantile and and import the famous wines form the Surilie Brothers, then it and get fat upon my heap of riches. The real answer is, if Skyrim was real... I would blow a gasket in glee, jump on my pogo stick and hop to it!

Going to assume that I dont have magic, and am not a thief or a warrior. Would need to make money somehow, so what is worth money, but is low risk?

Well, the alchemists gear (Alembic, Calcinators, Mortars and Pestles, and Retorts) is worth a lot of cash, so I guess I'd build those plus a little alchemy on the side.

Indeed, they are quite large, reach up to the knee and can easily just bite the foot off, and then the rest when I'm down on the floor screaming in pain. I guess that if I'm lucky enough I will survive and "only" need to amputate the leg. There's no +10HP healing potions for that.

What do you mean, "if"?

But probably I'd just get eaten by a wolf or stabbed by a dark elf or something.

If I was just going to be randomly teleported, I'd just carry a gun with me at all times, then when I teleported... Well.. Let me just say, Bullet over Magic.lol Also I'd hire a powerful crafter to make me special hand-made tamerielic bullets.

Destruction, Illusion, Restoration. I would hire a guard to do most of the melee fighting for me. Perhaps my character would give me a hand? :)

I always assumed that the "regular man or woman" in Cyrodil didn't develop magical powers? Am I wrong, or is that not what you meant by regular man or woman?

i meant you get everything as a player char would but as this is a real world there is no save games and getting stabbed hurts ...

the only difference between you and npc would be your memory of your past life

I would probably freak out for a few days, then, waking up dazed in a ditch somewhere and with the reality dawning on me I would look for a small village and a friendly face to help me out. Maybe spend a few months working as a lumberjack before I figure out what to do next. Bring on the sawmills!

I would go to the nearest town, find the architect there and proceed to have a lengthy discussion as to why his windmill is turning the wrong way.

id end up a very rich man. Id be the most technologically advanced being in skyrim. Id start with the simple wheel and build carts and wagons to sell to people since there arent any. let them marvel at that for a while. then i would create the cannon and gunpowder and set up a system of protection for all the towns from the dragons. then with the profits i would be taking in i would start on a water pumping station using windmills and supply plumbing and running water to every house.
then i may start working on the ultralight airplane and teach these people about flight or start teaching everyone about golf for recreation and get them all addicted and open up a golf pro chain of stores. Maybe i would start on a train system. Or start a dam system for hydo electric power.
By the time i get done skyrim will be earth 2.

The funny thing is, although we all use and take for granted technology, very few of us really know how most of it works, and fewer still could demonstrate and re-create it with our own toil. Most normal modern people warped into a fantasy setting like Skyrim's, or even a historical one, would probably find themselves with far more disadvantages than advantages as a result of their lifestyle. How many people can bake bread, sew clothes, fish rivers, hunt and skin animals, make leather, forge weapons?

We use a lot of technology, but an awful lot of skills -- the ones that'd actually keep you alive in Skyrim -- have been lost. Not to mention the resulting physical condition of the average person.

And on a more light-hearted note... I'm pretty sure the wheel has already been invented in The Elder Scrolls setting. :P
