Skyrim was rushed because of Mass Effect 3

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 2:50 pm

The greatest defense for Skyrims flaws and bugs? "Haven't you ever played any of Bethesda's games? They ALL need a year worth of patching before you can get past the title screen! Duh! Why don't you just be like all the cool kids and accept that you have to pay for it months before you can play it!!!"

Maybe if people didn't just "accept" this every time it was done, the the problem would be solved by now. If half of the people on this forum are right then perhaps the word "completed" needs to be redefined.

I don't accept the fact that there are problems with the game. But I have been on these forums since the Morrowind days. Complaining and whinning about the issues isn't going to make them fix them faster. Our best bet is to go to the tech forums and voice the issues properly so they can see what needs to be fixed. People crying about it on the general forums isn't going to do anything but get people arguing and flaming each other.

If it was rushed at all, I believe it was rushed to come out for Xmas.

That said.....I don't think an open world game like this is going to be the perfect game technical wise until a few patches.

@doewnskitty: Those issues are understandable.

Its the same issues that are present across oblivion, fallout and skyrim which are not.

I understand that, and I can only chalk it up to the fact that it's a limitation that programming languages have, especially when scripts intersect.

Not a great deal of flexibility in a binary construct, you know? It's either "on" or it's "off," and when you start to introduce more complex scenarios that aren't meant to be strictly one way or another, problems can occur.

For instance, the code that Bethesda uses does not allow for vertical scaling of environments by any characters within those environments, which is why you don't climb any ladders in any of their games. Instead, Bethesda makes ladders function the same as a door that transitions you to a new cell.

I fear for the Bioware fan-boys. Can't imagine what will happen if ME3 had the same quality as DA2.
Imagine the rage...

Actually Da2 is a better game then Mass Effect 2...
No, i am serious.

I was just about to point this out. I got beat to the punch.

If you are unhappy with the game, OP, go play Dragon Age 2.

I don't think there's any competition. Mass Effect will never appeal to an audience as big as Skyrim has, theres much less freedom in Mass Effect games and I believe it very much appeals to Sci-Fi fans whereas, given the freedom that Skyrim gives, it doesnt just appeal to fantasy RPG fans. I know many people that have bought Skyrim and have no intention of getting Mass Effect.

A bit late to reply to this, but I will anyway.

I love the Mass Effect series. I love the TES series. Guess I am an odd one out.

No biggie here, after the ME2 disaster, RPG wise, and all the lies along the production of the game i know exactly what to expect with ME3 and will still buy it to finish Sheppard trilogy but after that, i am done with Bioware, they sold their RPG soul to EA on the altar of evil capitalism.
And for the new fan-boys that arrived during Jade Empire / Mass Effect 1 era , well they come from the aim'n'shoot school so they won't be disapointed.

There's pretty much no such thing as a Bethesda game without bugs. Also I quite enjoy most Bioware games, including the Mass Effects and the first Dragon Age, and I still love Elder Scrolls and consider them among my favorite games so...

No, see, the fact is that the high sales prove very few people actually have that level of problem with the game. I have bought every Bethesda game since Daggerfall and have never had issues running the games, have never had crashes and have never had significant broken quests. You need to understand that a few hundred or even a few thousand forum complaints is NOTHING statistically compared to sales. 95% or more of people are just playing the game, man.

The love hate relationship Skyrim has reminds me of FF7's, with the haters hating because it's cool to hate...

The only difference this time around though is that it's a good game people are hating on~

:spotted owl:

Sorry sir, but Skyrim cannot compete with FF7. FF7 was a complete and original game which ushered in the age of the 3D RPG. The plot was deep and interesting, the Characters had backgrounds and were interesting, the graphics at the time were revolutionary. The people who talk crap about FF7 typically weren't in gaming when it was the first game of it's kind.

Skyrim? It's just another notch in my bed post.

The least they could've done was make the shallow, shell of a game features function correctly. The game is a mile wide but a quarter of an inch deep. No memorable characters and the plot is less interesting than the side-quests.

It's a pretty damn huge game.
Getting every single bug before release date is highly improbable.

But I have encountered very few bugs and glitches, only a handful were annoying, the rest I didn't care about.
So even if we "didn't accept this" it's a tradition that's going to keep going on.

I am convinced that Bethesda rushed Skyrim and released it with all of these bugs because Mass Effect 3 will be released early 2012. That way Skyrim can get game of the year without much competition.

i honestly don't think so, but i recommend ME1+2 great games and bioware really stands for quality

Original copy of Morrowind for Xbox - Ruined my entire xbox by plaguing it with DDE after reaching level 44 (??) on one character. My map vanished and I couldn't go 2 minutes without getting an error and crashing.

Original copy of Morrowind for PC - Refused to work with Tribunal, so I had to buy a GOTY edition before I got to play it

Oblivion for Xbox360 (bought on release date) - Crapped out in a few months!! Had to buy another copy.

I think it's just Bethesda's marketing tactic. I am prepared to have to buy another copy of Skyrim when this disk eventually craps out

Yes because ME3 and Skyrim were announced at the same time for the same date before ME3 got pushed back.

So I'd say it was the opposite.

I play both series but I like TES more. There really isn't any replayability for me in Mass Effect where as I only play 2 playthroughs each with 20 hours whereas compared to TES its 5 characters with 150 hours each. Mass Effect's story is way better than TES but the game doesn't give me freedom.

Truth, ME and ME2 are amazing games, and Bethesda could take some lessons on Character dialouge and quest progression choices and consequences. Bioware knows how to make a game.

They could have been released at the same time, and Skyrim would have still gotten GOTY because the ME series is lame.

Mass Effect 3 is going to be severely overrated, so no Skyrim wasn't rushed because of that or rushed period. How does a game developer rush a 3 year title, if it was 2 years or less then that's different but that's not the case here.

Skyrim was announced with release date and all many months before Mass Effect 3's release date was announced.

Whatever the case, it's not like there is only one GOTY award... Or that they matter that much.
