Skyrim was rushed because of Mass Effect 3

Post » Tue Dec 13, 2011 10:52 am

I don't think there's any competition. Mass Effect will never appeal to an audience as big as Skyrim has, theres much less freedom in Mass Effect games and I believe it very much appeals to Sci-Fi fans whereas, given the freedom that Skyrim gives, it doesnt just appeal to fantasy RPG fans. I know many people that have bought Skyrim and have no intention of getting Mass Effect.

Errr id say its the other way seeing as after ME1 they basically turned the ME series into an action based game with slight rpg elements - hell im sure I read that u can even play ME3 without having to do the conversations if you want so it basically is then a story based action game (you can still choose to have convos and choices obviously).

They delivered a very buggy game that so far 2 patches has been able to fix.

Instead of delivering on 11/11/11 they should have pushed it back and took the time to do it right.

Exactly. Instead or choosing a release date a whole year before the release they should have waited and released the game when it was done.

Bethesda executives probably told the dev team that there is no choice, they want the game released before the christmas shopping season.

I have more respect for Bioware for pushing back the release date. I also have more respect for Origin for pushing the release date of Starwars: The Old Republic back to just a few days before Christmas. These companies know the importance of delivering a quality product.

Interesting theory, but the truth is actually the complete opposite.

Mass Effect 3 was scheduled for a late 2011 release until Skyrim was announced for an 11.11.11 release - Bioware then promptly pushed ME3 back to 2012.

This is what I remember too. Skyrim was announced and ME3 postponed until early 2012 after Bethesda's announcement. Sometimes facts are misinterpreted, OP.

Without much competition?

So you're forgetting games like BF3, MW3, Witcher 2, Portal 2 etc etc.

There is plenty of competition. The game was rushed because almost all games are rushed; publisher says jump, developers jump.

Except Bethesda is both the publisher and developer, they must've been kicking their own ass.

Mess Effect series actually has characters who develop. The decisions you make in Mass Effect games actually have an effect on the plot and characters, who lives and dies. If anything I say that ME series' are the true RPGs.

The decisions you made in Morrowind did not effect Oblivion nor Skyrim. The Mass Effect series actually continues where the last left off.

My game glitched, where my character's head got cut off right after I used a heal potion and then he lived. I finished the boss battle like that and kept playing thinking that once I reloaded it it would be fixed. It did reappear when I reloaded the game, but it just keeps popping off! Every time I use unrelenting force it falls off again,

Game of the year isn't important to bethesda they just want people to enjoy the game.

Oh wait a minute...this is a thread about speculation that the game was rushed because there are some bugs? No, no, no...we knew there would be some bugs. These games are massive and there are always bugs at release and then they are fixed. Should have waited until a few patches were in place before buying if they bother you. They'll be fixed. Awesome game. Thank you, Bethesda. :)

The development team are still not responsible for setting their own release date.

Mass effect 3 will have a great story but gameplay-wise its gonna blow chunks (as standard) the combat is basically "go to this wall, hide, shoot from cover, advance/fall back/reload save game" rinse and repeat. That is not in Skyrim's league. These sandbox games are known to have large buglists on release which is why few developers actually make them.

You must only play PC ports made by Bethesda. Because games that I buy are not usually full of bugs, they may have one or two small issues that are resolved within a week or so; not heads popping off and getting stuck between furniture every time I walk into a house. Assassin's Creed series is a great example of a quality open world game, or Grand Theft Auto IV... Neither one of these games had nearly the same amount of issues as Skyrim. On top of that, Skyrim doesn't have any lines for the main character, nor cutscenes.

The combat in TES games is equally pathetic. You don't play TES games for combat, you play them for freedom.

Not sure ME3 and Skyrim are really competing for the same audience. I would think beating http://reckoning.amalur.com/en/ag to market would have been more important, since it's another open-world game that Ken Rolston (Morrowind and Oblivion lead designer) is involved with.

It's just destiny. The dragon claw slashes happened to form the three 11s thus the date for Skyrim's release. Complainers can come up with as many wild ideas as they may but there's no arguing with destiny. :)

Yes, because open world games in general are renowned for being such bug-free experiences.

Why wouldn't they wait one more month and spend time testing and debugging the game? Seriously, there had to be a motive of some sort. I don't think Skyrim is different enough from Oblivion to warrant a game of the year. Skyrim is supposedly a revolutionary game, but I don't see it. It's like re-textured Oblivion with dragons. The best part of Skyrim is the first 20 minutes.

I don′t think their major intention was to develop "the game of the year".
They established a release date about an year ago.
On the other hand, I think mass effect 3 was delayed, probably because of skyrim′s competition.

*looks at thread topic*

*looks at amount of response it's already gotten*

Mess Effect

And this is the only good thing in this entire joke of a thread.

series actually has characters who develop.

And this is where your intention with this thread becomes pretty clear.

Because if you really were familiar with TES, you wouldn't bother making that kind of "point," and the only other reason why you'd post such a thread that would stir up reaction?

Well, how's that living under the bridge thing working out for you?
