Skyrim Will Not Be Publicly Playable Until August

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 9:17 pm

The Quakecon presser was just released and the most important thing is that the event is august 4-7 and this part of what it said..."Bethesda Softworks will offer the first chance anywhere for gamers to get their hands on upcoming titles".

I'm not saying that we won't get gameplay footage or that the press might not play it until then. This is just the first time a public demo might be available.

This is pretty much confirmation that a demo will not be at GDC or PAX East for anyone hoping it would be.

Edit: Yes I know Quakecon is tradionally an Id event but they are under the zenimax umbrella now. The presser also said "bethesda softworks games" not just "Id games".

Sounds interesting, thanks for the info. I had hoped for a E3 demo would be shown like the opening dungion that they did for Oblivion but I guess August will do

Sweet. I think three months (August - November) for hands-ons is a good amount of time without spoiling the entire game. We already know we're going to get gameplay footage in February, March, or April (a month with the letter "R" in it, they said,) so that's good enough for me.

Could that not be talking about other Beth games? I don't know, just putting it out there.

Rage releases in May...Hunted in June...So that leaves, Brink and Skyrim. Are there any others?

Eitherway, I highly doubt anybody (customer) will be able to get their hands on Skyrim until 11.11.11...On a side-note, that is such an epic date.

That would be funny to see Quakecon overrun with Elder Scrolls fans. I wonder if we could outnumber them.

That might be the 1st time that fans will be able to play Skyrim but I think they'll show something off at E3 or even before that.

Playable demo? That still means we will get gameplay footage before then, right?

It doesn't specifically refer to Skyrim, but Skyrim could be one of the games under "upcoming games", seeing as Skyrim is a game and it is upcoming.

But it only says that the game won't be publically playable before then, it certainly doesn't mean we can't get gameplay videos, or maybe even see a live demonstration of someone at Bethesda playing it, it just means that the public at any such event won't be able to actually play it themselves before August. And right now, I just want more information on the game and to see it in action, whether it's being played by Bethesda or some fan doesn't make too much difference to me.

You mixed up rage and brink.

Also it says "gamers". We'll probably be getting gameplay footage from the gaming press by e3 at the latest.

I did mix them up. Laaaame.

I agree with the E3 statement, but I'm thinkin' they'll show something in either March or April, just a bit of video coverage. And at E3 some major coverage.

Anyone else find it weird that brink releases may 17 and hunted june 3? Two weeks apart? Bethesda is publishing four games this year and two of them are two weeks apart? Then rage and skyrim are two months apart? Not a very good job of spreading them out?

Brink and hunted appeal to different sets of consumer bases, same with Rage and Skyrim. Don't really need to spread them out so much.

I'm too lazy to search for sauce, but I'm pretty sure that Pete Hines (I think, that was in recent interview) have said that they are NOT going to release any kind of public demo for Skyrim.

But, actually, it's possible, that playable demo will be available for QuakeCon's visitors

If that is an I (i) then that leaves April as the only option.
If it is l (L) then that leaves us with both April and July.

Funny how April is common to all three, i, L and r.

No playable demo doesn't mean Bethesda won't be showing off Skyrim. They can still show it off at GDC or PAX.

This doesn't mean that the game won't be featured at E3. This just means that the public won't be able to play the game before August. Some of the press have already played the game.
