I really don't see Mass Effect 3 topping Skyrim. Coming from a fan of both series, Mass Effect 3 is going to be carrying much of the weight of ME2, and the story, for all it's worth, is going to be predictable. Dragon Age 2, on the other hand, has a good chance because it offers a fresh new experience along with Witcher 2, Portal 2, Uncharted 3, LA Noire. My gut tells me that Skyrim will win, and I usually trust my gut...Regardless, this GOTY is going to be all about fresh new experiences in 2011...which gets rid of games like Mass Effect and Uncharted. Sure they're going to be top class, but does anyone expect anything new coming out of them?
Add that to the fact that Elder Scrolls games have a very "triumphant" feel to them. Whenever an Elder Scrolls game is released, the rest of the gaming world sneezes.
ME3 probably won't be released this year, the schedule is just too tight imo.I see ME3 being delayed into 2012 and it's going to be an heavyweight.ME2 won a ton of game of the year award, just about as much as Uncharted 2...
The competition will be fierce no doubt,so all will depend on execution and if the improvement are enough to push TES V ahead of the contenders.I can't see it winning an overall game of the year award over contenders like Uncharted 3,The last guardian,L.A Noire,Crysis 2,Little big planet 2,etc. (you folks know these games will be nominated). It will compete for rpg of the year against Bioware (Dragon age 2,Mass effect 3?),Blizzard (Diablo 3),CD Projekt RED (the Witcher 2) and the wild card is if From software can release Project dark which is the successor of Demon's soul.
Forget game of the year, just winning rpg of the year will be hard enough.Especially if Bioware does release Dragon Age 2 and Mass effect 3.I didn't even mention Two World 2 which seems like a vast improvement over the first, even if there's still flaws to take care of.
