I don't think it has any chances of beating Mass Effect 3. Simply no.

I think it will be one of the top, but GOTY... Hmmm... Maybe? Most likely? It seems plenty of games get a GOTY edition either way, anyway (at least, it seems to me--Borderlands had it, LittleBigPlanet had it, Uncharted 2, etc),as long as they are really, really good. =)

Yeah, I think Skyrim will get it---the past two ES games got it, last time I checked...?

However, I think it's kind of funny that some people are like, "Skyrim FTW!!! GOTY!!!", but yet some complain about the game and say they will be so angry and may not buy Skryim or disown Bethesda if this and that----like spears, crossbows, throwing weapons, fast travel alternatives, better graphics, shadows, gore, bigger landsize, etc.-----are not added, lol! :biggrin:

I don't think it'll make game of the year, unless the storyline ends up being completely blow-your-pants-off amazing. Sounds a lot like Oblivion with ideas from other games thrown in, and not much originality. Edit: But there will PROBABLY be a "GOTY" edition even if the game doesn't actually win the title "Game of the Year" from any organization.

I think really its only competitors this year are ME3, Arkham City and maybe Deus Ex 3.

Skyrim will by my GOTY though.

It has some tough competition though from other games I am looking forward to: Mass Effect 3 and Batman: Arkham City.

I think Skyrim will certainly be A game of the year. Since there is no "single" game of the year. It will most likely be my personal game of the year I can tell you that!

Tough competition this year. Skyrim will definitely grab some awards for Bethesda, I hope they grab the ones they want (because I'm sure they already have some marketing targets).

That depends, are you asking if it is gonna be Game of the Year for me or how many GOTY it will win from sites like IGN, Eurogamer, Gamespot etc?

It's not like any of those awards is as prestigious as an Oscar or anything.

Anyway. It's hard to say. 2011 looks to be an incredible year.

For me, it will most likely "only" compete with Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect 3... maybe also The Witcher 2 but i am not even considering buying it untill i have finished the first game. Batman Arkham City, L.A. Noire and especialy Uncharted 3 could also be very interesting but they don't stand a chance, not really. My passion is roleplaying games. I imagine it will either be Skyrim or Mass Effect 3 but only time will tell.

As for the gaming press. No i don't think Skyrim will win. Or more accurately, i don't think it will be the game who wins most of the GOTY awards, not because it won't deserve it but because it isn't mainstream enough. Uncharted 3, L.A Noire, Zelda: Skyward Sword and Mass Effect 3 is more likely to win i think. Then again, Fallout 3 certainly won it's share of GOTY awards in 2008 so who knows.

if the other games being released want any shot at the award at all, they'll hold off release until 2012. No contest, Skyrim will win.

The Witcher will never win GotY because it is made by a small company. One of the big boys of the industry will buy more meaningless accolades in the end, could well be Bethesda.

To be honest, Bethesda is just lucky that Fable 3 came out last year. Still Crysis 2 > Skyrim.

I think it will be Game of the Year, the only one i think could compete is The Witcher 2.
DA 2 and ME 3 will probably be the same old linear style with funkier new graphics, so don`t think they will be serious competition.

Not really. From what i know, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption and Super Mario Galaxy 2 was the games who carried off most of the GOTY 2010 awards.

That's because people are sheep with no taste and don't appreciate underground games such as the Fable series.

Dues Ex is already delayed to 2012. The only contender Skyrim has to worry about is Mass Effect 3. Any other game doesn't stand a chance. For anyone saying GOTY doesn't matter well that may be so in fans eyes but producers and developers pay a lot if not too much attention to those awards. Let's face it, money controls all so if your game doesn't win awards and top sales your future isn't so bright.

Game of The Year status be damned; I want it to be an engrossing experience, is all.
