Skyrim will be $60 on the PC

Post » Tue Mar 30, 2010 7:34 pm

I honestly don't see how all of you guys can be so darn cheap. I would gladly pay 59.99 for a game. It might just be in Canada but I KNOW that Oblivion used to cost 59.99 for all platforms. I bought it right when it came out. It still had a T rating. I know how much I payed.

59.99 is a completley fair price. 2 hours at a movie costs about $9 to watch. 2 goes into 200 (the amount of hours in Oblivion) exactly 100 times. 100 multiplied by 9 is 900. We should all be playing Skyrim for $900 dollars. Unless my math is wrong :P

Yeah, back in 1960, candy bars cost $0.05. They're such a rip off now.

Inflation != MSRP markup

Though personally I feel $59.99 is very reasonable, and as others have said this is most likely not even the official price anyway...

I laugh at people that have computers that can run Skyrim but don't want to spend the extra 10 dollars.

$900!?!?!?!
Your math is waaay off. A game should not cost more than $65 or 70 (regular version).

I don't know about you guys, but I only rent games. The only ones I buy are Beth RPGs, which means I only buy a game every year or so. At that rate, 60 bucks is not a problem.

Well, first off, it's very likely this is just a [censored] guess from the website. And even IF Skyrim was 60$(or whatever that is in Euros in my case) I'd gladly pay. Elder scrolls games compared to 90% of other games offer so much more playtime. The fact that you normally pay the same price for an elder scrolls game as you do for this years edition to the ever expanding CoD franchise, is a joke.

I also think that's just a mistake. I'd be very disappointed if it wasn't. Not because I don't want to pay the extra 10 bucks, that's really no issue, Bethesda most likely deserves that money. But it's the fact that the PC version is not less expensive than the console versions. Just makes me think "console port" more than anything... If they wouldn't even make a difference in the PRICE, would there be any difference between the console and PC version?

As I said though, probably [censored].

Edit: That was a swear word? o.O Alright...

I might be wrong, but AFAIK Gamestop/ EB Games are basically the same company, just different countries and where I live EB Games is NOT the cheapest place for me to buy my games. I find EB to be generally higher priced than other stores.

As the cost of development increases, that cost carries over to the consumer. I still doubt the PC version is going to be 60 bucks, but I would pay it anyway if it was.

I plan to buy the boxed collectors edition, the downloadable Steam version, and the strategy guide.

I'm getting this for PC and PS3 on release date. PC will collector's edition.

I think the math should be $450 because you times it by 1 hour when you had to do it by 2 hours because of the movie comparison. I can be wrong.

You're right it is $900, was just doing some heavy math in my head.

A movie in theaters is like what, $10 or $11? more like $14 or $15 if 3D. That's 2 hours entertainment at most.

How many hours of entertainment does one glean from Skyrim?

If Oblivion/Morrowind/Fallout 3/New Vegas are any indication, hundreds of hours.

Movie theaters are ridiculously priced. That's irrelevant.

@the fellow who mentioned something about people who have computers that can run Skyrim then complain about the price of the game...
1. We don't know the specs yet
2. We spent all of our money on the PC, we don't have any left :P
3. Not every PC gamer spends mass amounts of money on their PC...
4. The money I spent on my PC was ALL gift money, from Graduation and my most recent birthday.

I'm not entirely worried about Skyrim itself being $60. If I hear good enough reviews I may (begrudgingly) buy it for that amount, but I am worried about PC games prices going up, even for things with less play time, like CoD, etc.

And please note, PC GAMES, not console games.

Console versions cost more because you have to pay Microsoft and Sony to develop official games for their systems. On the PC there is no additional cost beyond developing the game yourself.

Essentially you have to pay a license fee to make games for the consoles and for the 360 you even have to pay for game updates to go out. All of this is completely free from license fees on the PC.

Thank you for that information.

I remember the "official" excuse for the raise in price was due to "higher development costs for next gen software," which was also the reason for DLC that we had to pay for.

The price of everything has gone up. $60, though high, still seems reasonable to me

According to http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?dsNav=Ntk:TitleKeyword|Elder+Scrolls+V:+Skyrim|1|, Skyrim will cost $60 for the PC version. This is surprising, as only a handful of PC games have been given this raise in price, and gamesas's recent Fallout games have not been a part of that pool. Do you think it will remain $60, or is this just speculation on Gamestop's part, throwing up a high price with the low-price pre-order guarantee?

I really hope that it drops down to $50. It has always seemed like a fair price for most games, and has been an industry standard for years, even carrying through the most recent generation of games and consoles. I don't know if I'd be willing to pay an extra $10, and then see DLC popping up that looks like it was supposed to be in the game to begin with, and have to pay an extra $5 for that as well.

I wont pay 60 bucks. To me Oblivion was a kick in the nuts. Just a dumbed down pile of crap for the xbots. I doubt Skyrim will be any better.

Sure, ill pay 60 bucks for a quality game, but Bethesda hasn't made a quality PC game since Morrowind.

Doesn't really matter to me I'm not very rich but I'd probably pay 100 dollars for the regular game, but wait for reviews just to make sure it's worth the buy.

Please, no console bashing.

Also, I suppose if I really felt that the game was worth that much, I'd make it. But current industry trends point to that not being the case...

Yup.

Some of us are forgetting that we are in an economic recession - which is NOT getting any better. With general inflation as well as oil prices forecast for over $100 per barrel in 2011; expect some hikes in the cost of computer games too.
