Skyrim will be $60 on the PC

Post » Tue Mar 30, 2010 6:43 pm

According to http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?dsNav=Ntk:TitleKeyword|Elder+Scrolls+V:+Skyrim|1|, Skyrim will cost $60 for the PC version. This is surprising, as only a handful of PC games have been given this raise in price, and gamesas's recent Fallout games have not been a part of that pool. Do you think it will remain $60, or is this just speculation on Gamestop's part, throwing up a high price with the low-price pre-order guarantee?

I really hope that it drops down to $50. It has always seemed like a fair price for most games, and has been an industry standard for years, even carrying through the most recent generation of games and consoles. I don't know if I'd be willing to pay an extra $10, and then see DLC popping up that looks like it was supposed to be in the game to begin with, and have to pay an extra $5 for that as well.

NOOOOO. Quality over price. I'm paying 80 dollars + anyway for collectors...if you can't afford 10 dollars extra for the greatest game of all times...you gotz issues.

You're complaining about it being $60? First off, it's Skyrim. Price doesn't matter! and second, isn't all of Gamestop's new games $60 anyway?

Gamestop listed the PC version of Skyrim for $60 very shortly after it was announced, so I'm pretty sure they're just pulling the number out of their ass.

Meh, its only 10 bucks, and its probably well worth it. I mean, you can always boycot it :P
I'm sure that price is a placeholder anyway.
You guys already have it good, with better graphics, console, mods etc.
We console players have to pay $60 all the time with no mods or anything.

Overpriced? The PC version has mods. The console versions are overpriced with no mod support.

Why should it be cheaper? Is it easier to make or something? Why cheap? Oblivion was 59.99!

I think it will be worth it.
So far I got more than my money's worth with Oblivion or Morrowind.
I can't say that for other games that are $50.

Only if there's no exclusive DLC.

But, yeah, $60 ka-ching? That's pretty steep. They better throw in a pretty manual and a map. I mean, look at what the Hellbook edition of Darksiders has! I got an awesome case, the soundtrack, a digital comic, a physical artbook, a few extra pages of artwork, and a few cards with art printed on them. List price? $40.on release. Bethesda, you have no excuse!

EDIT: but, not like I'll be getting TESV on release. If it is any good, I'll wait til it hits $20 or for the GotY to hit $20.

Yeah, back in 1960, candy bars cost $0.05. They're such a rip off now.

I still don't understand. Why do they even make PC games cheaper? How can you complain that you are getting the same price as everyone else?

If Beth hadn't already given a release date I imagine Gamestop would be telling us January 2013. Do not EVER go by what these game stores say on their websites. It's a guess and usually not a very good one. Wait for official announcements.

An ES game is one of the few that are worth more than their actual price.

60 dollars is my limit for any game, no matter how good it is. Even at 60 I'm tempted to wait for a price drop.

This is the reason why some things are ridiculously overpriced.

Considering Bethesda′s quality and the game′s replay value I say it′s underpriced.

I really can't see how you could wait that long.... As for me I'm buying the collectors edition, and the normal version, as well as both strategy guides (If there is a difference) I know... I have a problem.

I would gladly pay $60 for this game, not only is it the fifth of the best game series ever, it is on the PC which leads it to have player mods (which will add content worth far more than $60)

PC games have cost $50 for probably the better part of a decade, even through the console's price raise to $60 with the "next gen."

I could probably afford the extra $10, but it's the principal of the thing. PC games cost $50, they have cost $50, even from Bethesda in 2009 and 2010. (So comparing it to 1960s price of candy bars is silly)

And no, Oblivion wasn't $59.99 on PC, it was $49.99 for the standard edition.

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. Why isn't everyone else complaining that console games aren't as cheap as PC games?

@Everyone saying it's underpriced: Apparently you don't know how much a dollar is worth. $60 is ridiculous for a game, no matter what. I avoid buying 360 games for that price as much as I can.

@"the exta $10 is like you're paying for the mods!!!" If I'm going to pay for mods, it's going to go to the people who worked on the mods, not the people who developed the game. I already gave them my money.

Sony and Microsoft's cut?
Iirc consoles are being sold below the hardware's actual worth. The difference is made up for in software sales. Essentially, the higher price-point of console games allows the consoles themselves to be as cheap as they are
