No, it doesn't.

A broken game and a broken RPG doesn't deserve Game of the Year.

Yes. It's about equally good as other good games I've played this year, but thanks to Skyrim's mod support it's a better game. :)
Edit: And mod support gives a big sandbox game like this almost infinite replay value.

All PC technical problems I've resolved with mods:
- Mouse Y-axis problem was fixed in previous patch. Before that it was an .ini tweak.
- LAA mod fixed crashes (and an official version should be included in next patch).

100 hours in and I haven't had any major problems. The game runs smooth thus far (knock on wood). You can't compare the problems of a few and say everyone is having problems OP. The game is not only the game of the year it is my game of the last 5 years!

I don't know about last 5 years perhaps....I am still playing Civ V and Oblivion and FO3! It is interesting to note that Beth has had a hand in 3 of these games. My only complaint would be there is not another company out there really putting out worthwhile games like these. Beth needs some competition to push 'em!

I think that if I compared Skyrim to what I'd have expected of it, the answer was no. But, realistically, if I put it beside other games I give Skyrim GOTY. Bethesda is the only company that I know of really tackling that huge, open world RPG-thing. And hopefully other companies will take notice if Beth gets GOTY every time they put something out there.

It's not that I've found Skyrim to be the ultime rpg ever and deserved the GOTY, it's just that I haven't found any other game released this year that kept me entertained like Skyrim does, so yeah, GOTY for Skyrim.

well.. both yes and no for me so i won't vote. in the beginning with all the insane hype i would have said yes. but im not sure now that i have played it so much. there is so many things that really disappointed me with a lack of options quest related instead of forceing you to save the village the good way and many other reasons. don't get me wrong, i really like this game and its beautiful.. i don't know tbh.. learning most towards yes cus i love the series and what it do... havend tried any of the other games so i can't really say for sure... im glad that they got it so that we may se more from TES and we can keep supporting them. but this is just my opinion.

I'm more insulted that Bethesda won studio of the year to be honest. The game is full of bugs, and there's barely any communication between the fans, it's just a joke.

Naughty Dog released an amazing game that had a few flaws, but they communicated closely with fans to fix the aiming problem. Every patch release was a big notification on the main website.

Valve are just consistently awesome.

They both put Bethesda to shame.

it does deserver game of the year even though its a very rushed feeling game morrowind and oblivion jsut felt like so much time had been put into the quests and everything skyrim just feels like they were working to the 11 11 11 deadline so they glossed over so many things

i have to say my biggest problem with skyrim now that i am 100 hours played and considering makeing another character as i always have done in other tes games whats always been so great about them is that The S.P.E.C.A.L system is gone

i think its been a huge mistake removeing what made elder scrolls games so realistic and the fact is they simply didnt need to remove it to add the perk system as is shown in fallout new vegas you can still have both in fact the perks in new vegas were so much better then what are in skyrim because theyv had to compensate haveing no stats

the perk system was a very good idea and pretty much perfect in fallout new vegas because morrowind and oblivion leveling was just a side effect fallout made leveling up enjoyable and worth doing just a shame and i really hope the next elder scrolls has special back although i will still play it i just wont love it as much

Skyrim also is not a very drastic departure from Oblivion. It's tweaked for the better in some ways, and for worse in others. Plus combine that with the fact that there are so many immersion-breaking moments and an overwhelming illusion of choice (which flies in the face of everything this franchise is about), I'd say it's on par with their previous game and not superior.

All of the above applies to Uncharted 3 too. Except Uncharted 3 looks gorgeous, and is utterly seamless between cinematic clips and gameplay. Two points against Skyrim.

I haven't played Batman, Portal 2 or Dark Souls, but on a gut feeling I'd say Portal 2 should get game of the year simply because it's more creative than the rest and is one of those rare games that doesn't require you to kill living things to proceed and complete the game.

It sure does. No matter how the VGA would have turned out, it's GOTY at my house.

I think it deserves it.

I think the more casual population that does the bulk of the voting does not encounter game-breaking bugs etc. I know I have only played about 80-100 hours and Skyrim is not buggy for me.

I see pretty cool communication here.

Should they come to your house and give you a card? They said they're working on the issues and trying to fix them. Calm down a bit.

What is wrong with you? All I see you do is bash Skyrim all day. You act like Beth has stolen your sweet roll. That's how much you bash this game.

How can you look at this:

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Bugs_(Skyrim)

And tell me that this game deserves GOTY when there were other games that has no where close to as many problems. Who cares if they weren't as "huge" as Skyrim, wouldn't that mean the developers should have spent that much extra time fine tuning it then to compensate for the size? I already know what you're thinking, just stop.

Of course the answer will depend on what type of games you like and maybe even on what platform you're playing. For me, the answer is a loud and clear: YES.

There was no alternative, Skyrim is simply the best $ value for entertainment. $59.99 for endless hours of entertainment or $59.99 for a 3 hour campaign in MW3 and the exact same multiplayer that has been in every CoD. People just need to stop whining, enjoy the game and know that Bethesda is pretty awesome when it comes to taking care of their fans.

Does it even compare to any game released this year in terms of art design, music, replay value and the amount of crazy fun stuff you can do with it? I guess not.
Graphics and sound are Battlefield 3 territory, the rest is just Skyrim.

The Witcher 2 is far far far better game.

Uncharted 3 also was a great game.

Dark Souls is also a great game.

Didn't oblivion and assasins creed also win goty? If so then it's a joke award.

EDIT: They won studio of the year???????? What the hell?

Betsheda doesn't directly chat with their customers and they won studio of hte year, with all of these bugs really?

Bioware/EA/2k/CRP <--- you can talk to the main devs on their forums.

Those are just update notes, the absolute bare minimum. As far as I know they didn't even aknowledge the broken PS3 version, rather talking about vague "long term issues", nor did they ever apologize for knowingly shipping broken games. They also lied about the PS3 version being on par with the 360 one. They have handled this extremely poorly and should not be rewarded for it. Then again, it's VGA so who cares.
