Skyrim won Game of the Year question is does it deserve it?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 3:24 am

The Witcher 2 is far far far better game.

Uncharted 3 also was a great game.

Dark Souls is also a great game.

Didn't oblivion and assasins creed also win goty? If so then it's a joke award.

It's all about opinions. Apparently people like Skyrim more, so do I. And AC isn't a bad game. It has a fun multiplayer and story mode. It's an action game, not a RPG. You won't have as much content.

Those are just update notes, the absolute bare minimum. As far as I know they didn't even aknowledge the broken PS3 version, rather talking about vague "long term issues", nor did they ever apologize for knowingly shipping broken games. They also lied about the PS3 version being on par with the 360 one. They have handled this extremely poorly and should not be rewarded for it. Then again, it's VGA so who cares.

Broken PS3 version? Why is it that ALL of my PS3 friends can play? I really think that the minority has a broken game, but I don't pay attention to gaming websites or whoever acknowledges it, so I could be wrong.

Yes, sadly it deserves GOTY. It does not, however, deserve Best RPG.

Enjoyment > bugs

The fact is, millions of people don't care. They are happily enjoying the game.

lol I'm not hating but for these issues to appear weeks or even days or hours after it was release? yeah might want to think about it lol

Why would I?

After playing for 120 hours plus the only bugs I've encountered are dragon carcasses building up at the college and lag which disappeared when I turned off autosaves.

Sorry.

Yes of course. I don't mind if the jury votes this game GOTY. I do however question how on earth Betsheda won the best studio???

Betsheda (to me) is the only forum i've been to where the devs ignores the forum completly. Hell I can't even talk to a dev using their contact form.

Say what you want about EA or other studio, but they let the customer interact direclty with devs.

Don't worry, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1311853-my-problems-with-skyrim-ps3/. Maybe you'll be too proud to admit it once it does though, but don't worry, we don't need you to validate anything.

So you are okay with the fact that we gamers are playing with a ticking time bomb video game that can explode anytime

I haven't had problems so I haven't tried to contact them. But I'm sure they browse the bugs forum once in a while. If I was Beth I would never visit this part of the forums.

In my opinion, a company that releases a new game needs to make sure that the game is playable on all platforms - which it wasn't. Now, some say millions are playing it without problems - and you know that how? I haven't seen any "official" surveys, but have seen plenty of complaints on the Hardware/Software forum, which is divided by the 3 platforms. Some bugs are to be expected, but when you have major issues playing the game (or not playing the game if the bug is really bad), then that should be taken into consideration. I've been playing computer games since 1982, and this has been by far the most complaints I've ever seen at release of a new game.

There is something to be said for companies using player-based Alpha and Beta testing prior to release.

On the other hand, now that the game is playable, except for a few minor issues, I have to say it's a great game, superior graphics, great questing, and superior dungeons.

But not GOTY.

How can you look at this:

http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Bugs_(Skyrim)

And tell me that this game deserves GOTY when there were other games that has no where close to as many problems. Who cares if they weren't as "huge" as Skyrim, wouldn't that mean the developers should have spent that much extra time fine tuning it then to compensate for the size? I already know what you're thinking, just stop.

The day people will realize that Skyrim is one of the most complex games ever created I'll run naked through the town streets.

Other games don't have as many problems as Skyrim simply because they are simpler by many orders of magnitude. You people look at the BF3 jaw dropping graphics and don't even think what means dropping a sword to the ground and finding it at the same spot and in the same position 500 hours later.

Skyrim deserves it's GOTY because it's the best game this year, regardless if it's bug free or not.

While I am very disappointed with the direction Bethesda is taking their games and in particular the Steam reliance for the Creation Kit and modding, I can't deny that this is an incredible game that I am thoroughly enjoying. So far in 25 hours, I have experienced just 2 CTD and a few glitches. But then I am still playing ver 1.1.

Do Bethesda deserve to win the GOTY for this game, I would say a resounding yes! Absolutely!
Do they deserve to win Best Studio, personally I would vote no. Sorry. I don't feel that they have much time for the community or make much effort to interact with the community.

No, since there were better games this year.

Thats the REASON why there is a BEST GRAPHIC nomination... geesh, you people are all whinny btches... GOTY is nomination for the best game overall of the year, which Skyrim happends to win easily, now does skyrim perform AWFUL? kinda, yes... maybe there should be a nomination of Worst Performance or Most Buggy Game of the Year Skyrim should also win it, they dont count the issues of games but the Gameplay and the content of the game.

Sorry, but any faction that gives a GOTY to a game that they have not actually beat... or played long enough to actually review... and fails to research the game before voting... Has no weight in the gamer community, and no respect for anyone other than themselves... They gave it the GOTY, because they want Bethesda to fork-over money for advertising in the magazine, or on the website. Same reason they give GOTY to some of the worst games ever made, for a slice of the money-pie. Every monkey with a website and an opinion, gives a GOTY award, for any reason they see fit. Not because it actually is GOTY, or earned it...

Skyrim can't be GOTY, because it hasn't been around for the year. Game of the month... possibly... and NOT game of 2011.

If you follow people giving frivolous awards like that... You are a tool.

That is like buying an i-pod, just because everyone-else got one... Or because you believe we some-how care that you own one now...

I'd say Oblivion lasted 3 years for me before I actually got bored from it. Now that I'm more connected to the internet, I'm afraid it won't last as long, though I will be more available to using mod for Skyrim. I always personally loved creating my own stuff with the Construction Set back in Oblvion. Just the feeling of creating whatever I wanted to was amazing. When Dragon Age came out, I assumed that it was an open-world RPG. Obviously, it wasn't, though I was able to play the game around a few months. With Oblivion and Skyrim being open-world RPGs, it allows me to express my imagination in a more connected-feeling virtual world with the Creation Kit/Construction Set.

I hope that the Creation Kit is easy to use, but then the farther you dive deeper into it, the harder it gets. With this in mind, I should easily be able to spend my time doing these such things. These are only some reasons why I would proclaim Skyrim as the GOTY. I was definately able to spend much more time into Skyrim then any other game this year so far.

Sure, the PC textures for example could've been better, but that's where mods come in. With the 2gbs being used for the game is somewhat crazy since I have a higher-end computer. Which makes it almost a requirement for people to get the 4gb mod for Skyrim to prevent it from crashing so much. With everything happening with the consoles, it practically shows how PCs are dominant when money isn't an issue when it comes to these epic open-world RPGs.

I can't defend what they did with the PC version in regards to forced steamworks. I don't think that disqualifies them from getting best studio or GOTY but it definitely wasn't a smart decision.

The award must have been paid for because this game should never have been released (ps3)
It just shows the state of the industry when a company can release a fundamentally broken piece of
crap like skyrim which is even breaking people's ps3's have broken quest's which prevent you
from advancing any further, suffer from the worst fps drops ever seen in a game and still win
game of the year.

what a complete farce that Bethesda should get this award they didnt even deserve to be
invited to the awards.

You can only use the CK through Steam, like you can only play the game through Steam. That has been confirmed by Gstaff.
You are 'Steamed' whether you want it or not. Fine for just the game, I don't like it, but...whatever.......maybe Steam won't even be here in two years and I will have an unplayable game, regardless of having the physical game disk. In these uncertain times nothing is safe, websites and businesses vanish overnight.

Having the CK bound to this restriction.....words fail....

But it is an issue aside from the GOTY. Yes I do think the game itself deserves the GOTY. Any technical problems aside it is a remarkable game and I am loving every single minute. The amount of work and attention to detail that clearly went into making this game....makes the mind boggle to think of it. Sometimes I just wander around ingame appreciating all the small extra details.
