Skyrim won't generate papyrus logs

Post » Fri Oct 18, 2013 2:56 am

I'm trying to sort out some (most likely) script-related ctds on my new install order (random crashing when AI is engaged in combat). I set the papyrus logging entries in Skyrim.ini to 1, and yet no logs are ever generated in the My Games\Skyrim folder, not even when using the "dps" console command. No log folder is created either. I've set the privileges for all the related folders so that the game should be able to access them.

My google-fu has been unable to yield any results, and thus I ask here.

Thanks for your time.

Just to be sure, it's the "skyrim.ini" in the "Mygames/skyrim" folder you edited, and you changed all three of the lines to do with logging and trace to "1"?

bEnableLogging=1
bLoadDebugInformation=1
bEnableTrace=1

At least, those are the three I had to change to get it to log things.

Yes. The .ini is in the same folder as "SkyrimPrefs.ini", the "Saves" folder, etc. The relevant lines are all 1.

[Papyrus]
fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0
bEnableLogging=1
bEnableTrace=1
bLoadDebugInformation=1

its actually inside the script folder: Documents\MyGames\Skyrim\Logs\Script\Papyrus.0.log

Note that logs won't be generated upon crashing, so walk around for a few minutes and exit the game normally. Should be enough to generate a proper log.

Yes, that's how it looks. The \Logs\ folder doesn't exist - creating it made no difference.

I tried just walking around and saving & quitting normally, no logs were generated this time either..

try to delete those two files:

  1. %HOMEPATH%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\Skyrim.ini
  2. %HOMEPATH%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini

...then validate your game cache files via steam. (https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=2037-QEUH-3335)

anf try to put again those lines:

[Papyrus]
fPostLoadUpdateTimeMS=500.0
bEnableLogging=1
bEnableTrace=1
bLoadDebugInformation=1

...in your Skyrim.ini (My Documents/My Games/Skyrim)
