I have a problem with Skyrim where I can't load any save or start new games on my current user account in Windows (I'm running 64-bit W7 Ultimate.) I can start the game, and can click either 'continue' or 'new game,' but both almost immediately crash the game. I took it up with the official Bethesda support, and they took me through these steps:
- sent them directx information (dxdiag.txt)
- update video drivers
- verifiy integrity of the game's cache (I have the steam version)
- disable all mods (I went a step ahead and re-downloaded the game from Steam)
- restart computer with no startup items (start with no other programs)
- run as an administrator (disable UAC)
- disable other monitors
- run game on different Windows user account
The last step is the one that worked. I made a new admin account called 'Test,' and loaded steam on that. After it re-download my saves, I was able to load my game with or without mods, with or without my second monitor attatched. It worked just like it did before last week (when this problem started.)
Unfortunately, that's where support cut contact, because it was a 'Windows issue,' even though the problem is specific to skyrim.
So, does anyone know how I can get skyrim working on my default user account again?
