Skyrim, a world filled with the mentally deficient.

Scenario 1:
*Arrow hits target*
Target: "You're dead!"
(30 seconds pass)
Target: "Just a trick of my imagination."

Yes. Your mind is playing tricks on you. With arrows. In your neck. Probably not worth investigating.

Scenario 2:
*Walking in Whiterun, passing by people.*
Someone: "I'M THE CAPTAIN OF THE GUARD IN WHITERUN!"
Me: "Are you, now? How's-"
Someone else: "I SELL FRUITS AND VEGETABLES AT THE MARKET WITH MY MOTHER. IT'S HARD WORK, SOMETIMES!"
Me: "Kid, I'm talking to-"
Yet another person: "WHAT, CAN'T STAND THE SIGHT OF A STRONG NORD WOMAN?"
Me: "Sorry, didn't see you th-"
Some other freaking guy: "I'M WATCHING YOU, SNEAK-THIEF."
Me: "Maybe being chosen for execution was a curtesy."

Slit a bandit's throat. Before I could back away, his buddy ran up, looked straight at me crouching over the lifeless corpse wielding blood splattered daggers, said "I'll find whoever did this" and walked away. He didn't turn around, either. He stepped over the body and actually pushed me aside slightly.

Edit: I thought I read somewhere before the game came out that the A.I wouldn't say anything to you unless you made eye contact or stopped moving. Guess that wasn't true. "Get to the wind district very often. Pfft, of course not [you're only the thane of Whiterun and go there every day]" He's the only accidental werewolf death I didn't feel remorse for.

Well, the second scenario applies to anyone and is almost as bad, in my opinion. I really dislike it. D:<

Or maybe common etiquette in conversing with strangers is just so different in Skyrim that it's customary to just start talking--without so much as a simple greeting or introduction--to anyone who simply "exists" in your close proximity, even if they are making no eye contact with you or otherwise any effort at a conversation. Although I could get it in the child's case. They tend to do stuff like that.

Here it is for anyone who wants to try it (click the smiley face). There's a reduced greeting (like I have) or completely remove the greeting. I'm so glad the person made this mod!

All of these occurrences are simply the 'Radiant AI' working its magic.

Man you give people cutting edge, top of the line game development (from 2006) and people just complain. It's 2011 people. Just because there are more numbers on the end of the year don't expect things to be better. I mean computer technology has doubled how many times since 2006? It's not like you can expect the NPCs to be THAT much different but "haters gonna hate" or something isn't that what the middle school kids say in 'the streets' nowadays?

And I like me some strong Nord women and I'm not at all threatened by their girth or heshe voices.

LET ME GUESS SOMEONE STOLE YOUR SWEETROLL LOL HAHA ROFLCOPTER DIDN'T SEE THAT COMING DID YA HEEHEE IM A GUARD I MADE A FUNNY 30 TIMES IN ONE HOUR.

Okay enough satirical pseudo word salad...

This game is such a disappointment to me. I kind of feel like I got trolled by the marketing department. I should be ashamed.

EDIT: Patrolling the Mojave almost makes me wi.... never mind. :sadvaultboy:

I will admit I laughed out loud when a guard first "asked" my character if his sweetroll was stolen. :P

That being said, it does get annoying after a while. Cipscis's mod will certainly fix the dialog-happy NPCs, while my Crime System mod (might change the name, considering the scope will probably impact all NPCs) will fix the NPCs ignoring dead comrades after 30 seconds (though the CK will need to be released before this is a reality).

At least the Guards aren't complete klutzes / totally psychic in Skyrim.

And at least the guards (which are all the same person, i think, under their helmets) don't have weird faces just because the game tried to make each guard different. I think covering their faces with a mask and using one guy for all the guards was a pretty good move by the devs :)

I can tell you that they are not, simply because they have different voices (so I assume different faces). There's a very limited number, though. As usual, no Beast races as Guards.

Or they might have a black hole where their face used to be under those masks. Who knows? :P

he he, always found it funny when the bandits just sit back down by the fire, arrows sticking out of them, claiming it was just the wind.

oh and that sweetroll comment is incredibly annoying, makes me want to murder all the guards, everywhere. Sort of the equivalent of Oblivion's "look at the muscles on you!" (in a very creepy voice) comment.

one thing I do like about the ai though, is how people's comments can reflect what you're wearing, be it clothing, armor, swords, bows, that sort of thing, thought that was a nice touch.

This thread just made my day!

There's a setting for the Skyrim.ini that might work without the plugin:
[LOD]fTalkingDistance=1000.0000; Default is 2000.0000

Forget it, just applies to what distance you start to hear NPC.
