Skyrim Worries About PC

Post » Fri Jul 29, 2011 9:38 am

So as im sure you all know skyrim is being made for the 360, and my two biggest worries for the PC version are the UI and the Textures. Oblivions UI was intended for console and was a bit of a pain on the PC version and i was wondering if its been confirmed yet if the PC port will have a separate UI? Question number 2 is on the textures and whether it will have separate, higher-rendering textures or will have 720p textures simply upscaled?

Also this isn't meant to be a thread to flame on the 360 just to discuss UI, Textures, and other worries you may have for the PC version.

Your avatar looks different when you see the outline of those arms as a shirt.

I played New Vegas on the 360 and then switched to the PC version and it looks by far better in graphics.
So even if it's designed for the 360 does not mean it will share the same graphics, the PC's will be by far better.
(As long as you have good specs.)

I'm really not worried at all. The UI (particularly the inventory) looks better than Morrowind and Oblivion's. I'm pretty sure it has been confirmed that the UI will be optimized for the PC version anyway.

The graphics on the PC version will be significantly better than the console versions on release, and 10 years from now, mods will still be constantly improving the graphics (if Morrowind and Oblivion are anything to go by)

Lmao

And it hasn't been confirmed if PC will have a different UI, but it should have higher res textures (depending on how beastly your PC is).

Todd has confirmed that the graphics will have marked improvement on the PC version (not explicitly, but rather by implicit mentions of such features that are on the PC, and what they can do with that), but I'm also worried about the UI. Skyrim's UI looked very console streamlined. I'm thinking there might be two completely different UI's, as with Dragon Age: Origins.

Well that is completely off topic

To reply to the post. I am super paranoid that the UI will just be another direct port. If I don't give it much thought, one of my biggest problems with OB is the UI (just got DarN's, hope it is good.) At the same time though, there are people like DarN, who are going to fix it up nice and good for us PCers. I know BGS should think about us before the release, but I stopped expecting attention from developers when "Games for Windows" became a thing. I've never cared much about the difference of 720 and 1080 and will be just happy that they fixed those horrifying faces.

I really am worried about the lack of 64 bit support though. That is just pure hate on PCs. They know mods are important to us. Why not give us the better support for that kind of stuff.

I'm sure the UI won't be too bad, oblivions was tolerable on PC, but i just wish they could make a separate one for the PC port, or design the UI so that its convenient on both platforms.

If it isn't as good as we'd like, we have graphical mods :twirl:

You might be surprised at the difference between 720p on a TV 4 ft away and 1080p on a computer screen 1ft away can be :)
I didn't know there is no 64 bit version :(
I realize if the UI is messed up modders will quickly fix it but they shouldnt have to :\

True story, and a sad tale. I'm getting annoyed at this lack of support for 64bit. I mean, it's been a pretty standard (and increasingly prevalent) option in operating systems for a long time now. C'mon devs. :banghead:

They probably canceled because 64 bit wasn't popular back during the core of its development and doing it now would push the release date too far back (as if the waiting is painful enough already!) Oh well its not too big of a deal. Im sure we can expect it with TES VI

I think the UI will be very similar across the platforms and the textures will be massive. Tod had said if you have a beast of a PC you can pump settings up to the max. I wouldn't be worrying :). It will be the same as Oblivion was i guess. IMO there was quite abit of difference between my pc and my ps3. PC was just soo much sharper/crisper and less popup. I still enjoyed it on the PS3 though.
I have to get 2 copies becuase my misses is the Boss lol . If she wants the PC i go in the other room haha!

I'll be getting it for both this time round as well ..and can't wait to play both. I think the PS3 version will be as good as the Xbox version. ...and that looks sweet!!

Why isn't it 64 bit?

Why is it still DirectX 9?

Because it's made to work on a 5 year old (or 150 in computer years) console.

This is true! And while i would love it to take advantage of uber graphics cards ,it will still be a great game on all platforms.

Yea yea but lets not turn this into a flaming thread.
DirectX 9 is old but you can do some really good stuff with it :)
And the fact its being made for Consoles means a much wider audience to fund a better game - Graphics isn't what makes a game, its the gameplay. Plus since its being made for the console also means its not as difficult to keep your PC updated enough to play for it which is a blessing on our wallets. Consoles may be keeping Video Games in an older graphical age but are helping Companies grow and focus more on the actual game.

On the PC, your pony would be in full 1080p, so we'd be able to get higher res textures, and see once and for all if it is a shirt.

On the Xbox, we won't get that kind of detail.

1080p is low res... try seeing it at 2560x1600!
