Skyrim is a yawn

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 11:01 pm

Well I've been a really devoted fan since Morrowind, and this will be the first time since then that I will wait to purchase a copy of the newest ES game. I rented Skyrim for a few days, logged some hours, and I'm not at all impressed. I feel they may have made this overly vanilla to help dlc, or expansion pack sales, or they just got away from what makes ES so great. ES were original, yes they had elves and such, but broke away from the typical fantasy realm with the lore behind the games, Daedra, etc... Now we have a bland snow covered world, that feels like an Oblivion expansion pack, with, wait for it... Dragons, [censored], that's original, maybe in ES6 they'll have half sized people, carrying a ring of power to save the world. Despite the sell out factor, I know I'll eventually play the game and enjoy it to an extent, but do none of you see how boring the storyline is? Tell me you wouldn't kill for an Akavari invasion or something at this point? Anyhoo, I hope the next gen consoles will see a resurgence of this series, as this one is middle of the road.

If you think that this is like an Oblivion DLC, you're an idiot.

I love them! They need to be buffed a bit and they need to do shouts in combat

If you think the whole game is snow covered then you clearly haven't played it enough.

You're basing the entire game on a tiny area of land, a few hours of play and the first few bits of the main quest? Hmm...

And dragons have been in TES Lore for a long, long time.

They do shout. That's their breath attack ;)

They do need to be stronger though. I use air elemental fury and kill a dragon in one to two DW power attacks :(

If there's any reason I should Hate Morrowind so much, it would be that it made people think the only way you can be original is by making the entire world alien, full of bugs and mushrooms, have funny names and rip off the far eastern cultures.

Dragons have always been in the lore of TES. There have never been little people, are you sure you are on the right board? I'm sorry you don't like the game, but why bother coming here just to tell us lowly forumites that you will not purchase the game?

No need for name calling.

Every time I see someone make a comment like that - the DLC comment, I mean - I assume that they're trolling. Skyrim is leaps and bounds beyond Oblivion, and anyone who fails to see that is either ignorant or mentally deficient.

I think they do. One dragon kept screaming "Yol!!" at me... which apparently is dragon for "Burn you insignificant little worm!! Your low archery skill level coupled with your tiny, stick throwing stick-and-string-combination-device is no match for my impenetrable scaly hide!!! "

If by "half-sized people" you are referring to the Dwemer then I sincerely hope ES6 has them.

Like Maiq says, "Dragons were never gone. They were just invisible, and very very quiet."

I dunno about you, but the story for Skyrim seems pretty damn original to me. About as much as a cult murdering the Emperor, and a prisoner having to find the last heir and the amulet of kings, to repel a demonic invasion.

But they were never short. They are elves, they were called short by GIANTS.

The main story always svcks. Always. Just exploring is much, much more fun.

Bethesda is incapable of making a good main story with compelling characters. It just isn't their thing, some-how.

World creation? No other company even comes close.

Take it for where it's good and don't stress out about where it comes up short, just expect it.

I'm aware but another name for them is "Dwarves" which is commonly associated with shorter folk. It was just a joke ;).

Well, Dwemer were not half-sized, but indeed it would be amazing if they′re returned. I would ask Dumac Dwarf King what the hell happened at red mountain since Vivec is a lier. BTW, I dont find the story so plainly as this guy says. I love the matices, the confrontation of the dying empire with a inner rebellion, the refugees from morrowind and the tension everywere.
