Morrowind was not streamlined at all, it was made for a console. Daggerfall was like, what, 10 times the size of Britain? With over 150 000 npcs? A large, randomly generated world. Randomly generated world which is basically redundant /= more depth than a smaller hand crafted world.
I say oblivion streamlined because of a few features. The first is 1:1 level scaling with every single npc/creature in the game. Removing any difficulty from the game. The second is they returned to randomly generated environments. Not everything was random, but a lot was. Then you have the removal of integral skills that made morrowind special, namely levitation. The dumbing down of armor sets. No more pauldrons and whatnot. Morrowind was all about fantasy tone and lore. The world felt deep and rich, as if there was an actual world that had existed for thousands of years that you just happened to stumble into. Oblivion... not so much.
IMO, Skyrim, while "streamlined" surpassed Oblivion in every conceivable way. Im not sure I want to call it better than Morrowind, but it is darn near close.
So I don't really agree. But I see what you're getting at. Only problem is randomly generated environments, cities, npcs, and dungeons does not equal depth.. So in this sense, I don't think Morrowind streamlined at all.
