Is Skyrim your first TES game?

They probably did get a large chunk of playerbase from OB. But on this forum, there's a high % of MW fans. :)

I started off with Morrowind back when it first released then Arena, Oblivion, Daggerfall, Redguard and now Skyrim, didn't join the forums until Skyrim was announced though.

My first one was Morrowind, but I was too small to understand it and rage quit. Oh, the good old times.

I started to follow the series when I played Oblivion and really liked it. Then I got around to play Morrowind again now that I understood it.

So, Skyrim is my third one.

I played Daggerfall around when Morrowind came out but after I played Morrowind, I realised how big the world was and immediately stopped playing since I knew it would take up too much time.
Morrowind was the best for me of the latest three installments because they:
  • Didn't have level scaling.
  • The story was much more epic and being the Nerevarine you felt much more rooted and a part of the Morrowind World.
  • Dialogue wasn't limited by the voice acting budget so even mod quests didn't break the immersion.
  • Aesthetic Design was actually heavily rooted in fantasy, Bethesda has been bringing the design much too close to reality with each sequel.
  • Daedric armor was actually special.
There's alot of other reasons but you only need to search on google to find plenty of reasons why people find it their personal favourite.

I pity everyone who played Oblivion first. In hindsight what a shoddy game that turned out to be. Low point of the "new" Bethesda era.

Sadly, I'm one of those "late" gamers. Just joined into the Elder Scrolls series when Skyrim came out. I feel like I'm missing out since I've never even played Morrowind or Oblivion. Will probably need to try getting it to run on my macbook pro somehow. Heard too many good things about Morrowind, especially its storytelling component. :)

Morrowind was in many aspects the pinnacle of the series. Ever since then it has been about the "streamlining" (read:Simplification) of the series to appeal to wider demographics so as to increase profits... while keeping it "pure" enough to bring back old fans of the series.

It is a fine line to walk. And to be honest, after the abortion that was Oblivion, I was ready to write off the series. But Skyrim won me back in a big way, and convinced me that "streamlining" may not be all bad after all.

This forum is atypical, of the average player I guess most started with Oblivion.
http://steamcommunity.com/stats/TheElderScrollsVSkyrim/achievements/ shows some interesting stats.
Yes might be somewhat bugged, know I miss some like the civil war and companions who I had done multiple times.

While Daggerfall was the first I had played, I missed Morrowind because I was told it svcked so I didn't want to spend money on it. I played Oblivion which was pretty good ... until I discovered the modding community. By the time I was done MY Oblivion became and remains the best game I ever played.

Went back and played Morrowind later after my video card died and I needed something old I could play on my onboard video until I got a new card. My experience with Oblivion had convinced me that the friend who had dogged Morrowind was probably full of it. Turns out he was.

I still like my Oblivion better, though I understand why many would prefer Morrowind out of the box. But of all the games I've played Oblivion had the most amazing modding community I've ever seen. Most of them were Morrowind veterans, of course, but there is some absolutely amazing content out there for Oblivion.

These stats sometimes confuse me, it says that 7.5% of all players didn't complete unbound; either that's a bug, or a considerable number of people are extremely impatient.

The first I played was the Daggerfall demo, a looong time ago. It was interesting, but it didn't catch me very much.
Morrowind is a similar story.
In oblivion I'm still trying to get into the story, but the graphic style repels me very much.
Skyrim is awesome under almost every point of view.It is the best game I've ever played; it lacks a little of dungeon variety, caster robes variety and coolness (the archmage's poncho is terrible, even if it has the best caster stats in the game), and last but not least a true heavy HD texture pack. Not the one that has been delivered through steam quite a long time ago, in which the improvement is almost imperceptible.

As i said they are bugged as I have done companions and civil war without getting achivments for it. Guess that some bought the game but had to weak hardware.

I hate to admit it, but Morrrowind is my least favourite Elder Scrolls game out of the five main titles.

I'd say the "streamlining" happened with Morrowind. The number of Daggerfall features eliminated by Morrowind was larger than the number of Morrowind features eliminated by Oblivion or the number of Oblivion features eliminated by Skyrim. Morrowind arguably "streamlined" the series more than either of the latter two games.

Damn never realized how many people played morrowind first. I've been here since arena and have loved watching the series grow and look forward to the future of the series as well.

Morrowind was not streamlined at all, it was made for a console. Daggerfall was like, what, 10 times the size of Britain? With over 150 000 npcs? A large, randomly generated world. Randomly generated world which is basically redundant /= more depth than a smaller hand crafted world.

I say oblivion streamlined because of a few features. The first is 1:1 level scaling with every single npc/creature in the game. Removing any difficulty from the game. The second is they returned to randomly generated environments. Not everything was random, but a lot was. Then you have the removal of integral skills that made morrowind special, namely levitation. The dumbing down of armor sets. No more pauldrons and whatnot. Morrowind was all about fantasy tone and lore. The world felt deep and rich, as if there was an actual world that had existed for thousands of years that you just happened to stumble into. Oblivion... not so much.

IMO, Skyrim, while "streamlined" surpassed Oblivion in every conceivable way. Im not sure I want to call it better than Morrowind, but it is darn near close.

So I don't really agree. But I see what you're getting at. Only problem is randomly generated environments, cities, npcs, and dungeons does not equal depth.. So in this sense, I don't think Morrowind streamlined at all.

Daggerfall had language skills, ship sailing, a larger amount of skills in general, and even banking. The size isn't really what was being mentioned, most likely. Morrowind was made for the PC first, but had a console port. It didn't have as many skills as Daggerfall did(though, most of that game's skills were just best off being lumped into specific words.). The game also had an actual supply and demand feature for the economy.

I am only giving some facts on what was removed and saying a few subjective things.
