Is Skyrim your first TES game?

Post » Mon Feb 16, 2015 4:35 pm

Daggerfall was technically my first. But, I never gave it a fair shake. The game was outdated by the time it was released (it was a low-res DOS-only game in a 32 bit Windows 95 era, no hardware acceleration, etc), but it was also in development a long while.

Battlespire (very few TES fans have heard of it) is another I purchased on a whim without much research. I had a hard time getting into that one too.

I also bought Morrowind and gave it a try, but I couldn't get past the exotic locale. At the time I was hoping for more of a traditional RPG with regular forests and what not.

Oblivion was the first to scratch that particular itch, and it was the first TES game I "completed" (finished the main storyline). I enjoyed it immensely and put several hundred hours of gametime into it.

Skyrim is probably my favorite TES game though. Some people say it's too far removed from the original TES games. Possibly. That could also possibly be why I (and millions of others) like it so much. Developers go where the money is and in this instance I am glad they did.

I played Daggerfall first, technically speaking.

But I played it without realizing what it was until a few years later. At the time I couldn't make sense of anything, there wasn't enough time to learn everything. (It wasn't my own game/computer)

It was for nearly half a decade later that I gobbled up Morrowind, not actually connecting the two until I tried Daggerfall a few years after playing Morrowind, and realizing it was the same game I couldn't make sense out of all those years ago.

So, Daggerfall was the game that stole my Elder Scrolls virginity, while I was asleep and unaware, Morrowind is who I gave it to, not knowing it was already gone. And Oblivion is the 3 minutes of awesome followed by an awkward hour of crying.

Skyrim's my "Steady Gal". She's here, and I love her, but I'll always remember the first, the old girl didn't age well, unless she undergoes serious cosmetic surgery. (THANKS MGE!)

Best story i have ever read. My first was Morrowind, aah i remember rp as a farmer around Vivec. Getting up early to do my farm work and then once in a while travel to Vivec to sell my goods and buy food. Though i needed to kill the previous owner of the farm house i still called it my own.
Good times, good times.

:ermm:

Okay, this "cartoony" word is seriously heading into "wildly overused" territory. And (as with "casual", "immersion", and several others) with a seemingly, constantly-changing set of vague definitions.

Nope, been mucking around on these forums alone for 10 years, I showed up here before Morrowind was released to get info and join in the hype  My first TES game was Arena which I bought from a D&D/Minitures store which I believe still exists, back in 1994, at the time I had no idea who Bethesda even were or what a true RPG even was (I had dabbled a bit in Ultima but that was about it) I certainly didn't know that the TES would become a successful institution and put Bethesda onto the worldwide map  You could say I have sorta grown up with the TES series, from a pimply faced youngin I would eagerly await news of the next TES project and would buy it on release day, since getting the net I decided I could get even more info on the forums and meet lots of like-minded nice people  TES has saved me alot of stress over the years and has created many memorable moments  :tes: I have put over 1500 hours already into Skyrim, speaking of which, I am off to play with my latest Mage charachter.... bye !

Am I the only person who hasn't encountered any major glitches with NV or is the PC version just lucky?

Yes Skyrim is my very first game in the TES series. Until a year ago I never knew much about the TES series. I can’t really point out specifically what got me into Skyrim, rather it has been more about diversifying and opening up to a different genre as a gamer today.

I wasn’t much into fantasy which all changed after watching the Lord of the Rings trilogy when it came out and reading the LOTR books and recently picking up the Hobbit. I was never much of a “gamer” growing up. A few years back I managed to come across the very first GTA game which I totally got lost in. I loved it very much and played it that entire summer. You couldn’t really classify it as an RPG then. Then I got into COD only cause I really liked the campaign.

Then I came across WoW, which also happened to be my very first MMO, shortly after and spent that last couple years until recently in Azeroth. I simply loved the open world feeling and the freedom to explore. I started playing just after WTLK was released so Northrend was special to me. It had a very tundra feel to it, with snow capped mountains, lush forests in Grizzly Hills, safari like region in Sholazar Basin and a very Viking like theme overall. Howling Fjord is the perfect place that had a bit of everything going for it. Loved the Viking architecture in the region and I could spend hours in that place doing nothing but stare at my surroundings. Skyrim has a very similar feel about it.

Then last summer I was watching E3 on G4tv and they were talking about an upcoming TES game and gave the audience a peak into it before going into commercials. I really liked what I saw and when they came back from commercials, Todd was introduced and took us through the initial playthrough right through Riverwood. I was captivated immediately. The scenery and surroundings were simply amazing and nothing like I had ever seen before. If I could point out a specific point in that video that really got my attention was where the Dragonborn comes face to face with a dragon on top of Bleak Falls Barrow. Then Todd mentioned that all of the dragons, dungeons and scenery were hand drawn and to see the attention to detail in the smallest of things was simply amazing. Especially in times when big budget movies and games rely heavily on CGI animations this was a breath of fresh air.

Then I started reading up on Skyrim, read about the the Elder Scrolls and the rest is history.

So yes I lost my TES virginity to Skyrim and I don’t regret it.

I'm not 100% sure, it was either Daggerfall or Arena, I'm leaning more toward Daggerfall.

It is maybe TOO hardcoe nowadays, and really hard to get into unless you have a pretty good idea on what are you doing and the dunegons are a living torture of winding corridors until you feel calustrophobia clawing at yor neck like....ok I will calm down now

Same here. I haven't encounter a glitch in 90 hours of play. Either I've been lucky, or the other poster is just full of bs.

Sure, I'm pretty sure this game--like any other--will have some glitches somewhere, but this game is no Daggerfall. Actually, I've seen more glitches in Skyrim than in FNV.

I got a few tiny glitches, but really, none of them were game-breaking. New Vegas is run on Beth's Fallout 3 engine, so a few glitches are expected, but they weren't even major.

Morrowind because I've never liked PC gaming. Skyrim will probably be my last foray into TES for quite awhile, can't stay young and unaccountable forever.

Started with Morrowind and along with Skyrim and a small hand full of other games it continues to be one of my favorite games of all time. After morrowind i played through arena when it became free. Tried daggerfall when it went free but the bugs + the dated graphics was too much for me. HATED Oblivion. Skyrim I got in January and have over 400 hours logged across mainly 3 characters (couple of false starts and redos) and I anticipate playing on and off for years to come.

Started Elderscrolls with Arena. Bought it on a whim (wanted a new rpg). Played most ES games since (didnt play Redguard or Battlespire).
Been buying new ES games on release ever since.. Maybe I'll learn one day. [Daggerfall was a horrible buggy mess]

I was first introduced to Tes by a gaming magazine with a article about Morrowind. it was still unreleased at the time so I went online looking for more information and found Daggerfall. I found a english copy for sale for $10 in Italy and bought it at once , never looked back.

I still remember the first picture of Morrowind that I saw , was the Darkelf with the face tattoos and the Bonemold armor , lets just say was love at first sight.

I've been playing since Daggerfall. I dated a girl way back when who was into Elder Scrolls and had Arena and Daggerfall on her computer, and one day I started playing her copy of Daggerfall. Fast-forward a couple of years, and my stepdad comes home with a copy of Morrowind for Xbox. I loved it, but our Xbox svcked, so a while later I bought the GotY edition for PC.

I've since played every Elder Scrolls game with the exception of Stormhold.
