Slight Magicka Revamp

Post » Wed Feb 09, 2011 8:04 pm

What I'm looking for is something to make magic more like it is in the Eragon universe (i,e, casting spells makes you tired, cast one too difficult it can kill you, etc)

So, I was wondering a few things.

1) Would it be possible to revamp the magicka system to work based on fatigue, not magicka?
2) How difficult would this be?

3) Does a mod like this exist?
4) If not, would someone be willing to make it?

Without the Construction Set in front of me, I can't say for sure...

However, I do believe it would be possible to work so that when you cast something, it drained your fatigue. Not sure if you could prevent it from draining your magic too, though. You could definitely make it so that casting a "difficult" spell would kill you, as long as there were reasonable parameters for "difficult" (i.e. too tired, etc.).

To my knowledge, nothing of this nature exists. Someone here might be willing to make it, though...

Have you taken a look at Tejon's http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25616? It is not exactly what you are describing, but it seems to be along those lines. This is one of a few of Tejon's mods that I do not use, so I cannot offer too much help. His thread is always a nice place to ask questions, however. I vaguely remember reading a description about spell casing being dependent on fatigue, or at least the "it could kill you" part, but I cannot remember what mod it is for the life of me.

THAT'S IT! No wonder I couldn't remember the name...

[EDIT] As for fatigue, Tejon's mod does take fatigue into account when determining the success or failure of the spell... but I don't believe that casting costs fatigue.

If Fizzle seems to be getting you closer to your goal, maybe you should tell them what your looking for in tejon's thread. They should be able to tell you how to tweak the INIs in order to better achieve the effects you want. I really thought I read about spell casting hurting health or fatigue at some point in some mod's description...

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25844 is more in the line of "making you tired/ punishing you for powerful spells. Fizzle focuses more on spell failure. Audacious Magery also has spell failure, and Fizzle also has spell punishments, but they each do their specialization better.

It even has a customizable ini so you could... make penalties for going over your skill 100% likely and disable all of the penalties except for damage fatigue, and maybe some damage health ones too if you want to risk dying.

Or just leave it like it is... there have been plenty of times where I've gone unconscious for a minute or two because I casted a really powerful teleportation spell.

I remember looking at that mod a while ago. Here's the link, by the way: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=25844.

Anyone else have any suggestions, or would anyone be willing to take a shot at making such a mod?
