Slow Down... Please?

Post » Mon May 03, 2010 2:01 am

Hey guys can we Slow Down?

--------------------------------

1.) Necrophilia
2.) Mile High City
3.) The Island
4.) Armageddon
5.) Marshal
6.) SCAR
7.) Land of the Nuclear Sun
8.) The Flooded City
9.) Drug Run
10.) Canada Rising
11.) Vault 111.

----------

I know some of these bombed or are bombing but c'mon guys. 11 in one week. This is INSANE. Can we please slow down with the posts? Also refine some of your ideas, some people are just posting the first thing that comes into their heads, the thread goes for like 3 pages, then it just fails, seriously, Josh; You've had two RPs in like lightning succession after the first failed you went on with the second one, Same with Nazguljcg. Guys can we please slow down and refine our ideas this allows better characterization and deeper, richer story work by the main writer, if every day someone makes a new character for a new RP that just fails and burns out. This board will only get worse and worse. And having like two RPs running at a time allows for more Fan Fictions and for people to dedicate more time to a single RP instead of like 4 at once.

Im not telling you how to do things, but im just suggesting Slow Down a bit...

Id like to hear your thoughts on this.

And this topic will have no effect, sorry to say.

People who fail at creating RP's don't realize that fact and continue doing so. Call it denial , call it doucheness but when it comes down to brass tacks it's out of your control.

Im afraid Nwah is right, people who svck at Rp-making{Not stating any names} try to make up for it by making five or six a week. These people need to take the time to join an RP before they start postng them.

PS:Nwah, why did you cut out of Flooded,it looks like its going to go somewhere.

This forum just doesn't have the experiance of the TES fan fic forum.

I hope that the good members keep going and eventually those who refuse to learn will go away.

Things will approve, its just a matter of when.

Although I do agree that it needs to slow down a bit. I would like to point out that Armageddon is not an idea that just popped into my head. I have actually been working on this story for quite a while now. Originally it was going to be a fanfic, but I decided that it could work well as an immersive RP and wanted to give it a try. I had intended to start this about a week ago, but I had to shut it down due to a request from Rohugh. I wouldn't even try to start an RP that was not well thought out first because I would consider it an insult to everyone on this forum. I have crated what I hope will be a story that will both be entertaining and immersive for the characters.

Regarding the RP that failed: When I took over the Badlands Project from Francois I knew that I had a difficult task ahead of me but still wanted to try. I failed and have no shame admitting that to myself and everyone else here. I do not claim to be an RP expert or an amazing writer, but I am learning more everyday from the posts I create and the ones that are submitted by others.

I have recently rediscovered my love of writing and, when I feel it is good enough, enjoy sharing it with others.

Like I said, i do understand what you are saying, and even agree with it. It's just my opinion but I think the major downfall of the RPs here is that people try to participate in too many of them at once. I understand that people get anxious waiting for an opportunity to post in an RP and as such, go and join another one so they can post more often, and as a result, the quality of posting goes downhill. Personally I have a hard enough time keeping track of two story lines, nevermind 3 or 4. In my Armageddon RP, I have one person who may not actually participate because he doesn't want the other RP he is in to suffer. This is something I understand and even encourage. There are far too many one-liners being posted by characters, and as a result the RPs become unenjoyble for all

Regarding RP ideas. I do agree that a lot of the RP stories popping up seem rushed and, in some ways, very similar. It seems like a lot of people are creating ideas without truly fleshing out a story and instead make it up as they go, or, rely on the characters to do it for them.

Regarding participation in multiple RPs: I think players should limit themselves to no more than two RPs at a time. Don't jump into every RP that you think is a good idea simply because it's there. Sometimes an RP will really appeal to you, but if you are already participating in two(or more) RPs, resist the urge to join another one. The more you are in, the more likely you will become overloaded and your writing will suffer. There will always be more RPs down the road.

That's just my two cents.

Off-Topic: I quit Flooded because I also joined "The Land of the Nuclear Sun" and I didn't want my RP posts to suffer due to lack of time.

On-Topic: I agree that a lot of people just dropout of RP's without warning, but most of the time it's the RP's author that gives up due to lack of dedication to their own idea. IMHO, if an RP you make doesn't draw people over a day or two, the remedy to that situation is not making another RP.

I agree DeadlySin, you know I do. But like its been said before. People just don't learn. All my "Canada Rising" Rp was about, was to try and get people to start posting thicker, and making more detailed and interesting posts/stories to their Rps. But it seems it failed, and there still continues to be those who rush into making Rps. (You know who you are also, so don't think it's not you :shakehead:)

Seriously people, you've got to learn to think with your imagination, and not the tip of your tongue. Don't go shooting off ideas, and think they're great or going to be good. Like I've said for what feels like the 100th TIME! Don't choose the first idea that pops into your head. Think of others, and maybe incorporate or even evolve the story(ies) together?

And another thing, when someone makes an Rp; and you are apart of it? Don't just drop out, and think your going to go off and make your own. It's not only rude to the other people and OP, but it also shows your lack of ability to stay with an Rp for a long time. The reason 99.99999% of these Rps fail and get looked over is because people drop out, and go onto another Rp or something? Seriously, just stick to 1-2 Rps, maybe even 3 if you can handle it. But no more than 3 or you'll be overcome with everything happening; and will lose track of who's where and what's happening. Just join an Rp, and stick with it. HELP make it last as long as possible, and don't just drop out or stop posting because you've joined a fresh new Rp. If you do, it's like your spamming in a way.

There are three people that I will name, who I have high hopes for. From seeing what they've done in my "Canada Rising". I think they have some hope, and maybe even become what all you call "veterans" very soon; that is if they made Rps or Fan Fics of their own. Of course if they wanted.

Cookies Ahoy,
VoodooLady,
&
ShadowStrike.

All three of you have show that you have what it takes, not only to post good posts in Rps, but also to make good Rps? I think if you worked on it, you could all become "veterans" as fast as I have? Outside of them, I'm sorry but you all still need work. But so does everyone, no one will ever be GREAT! If your great, then there is no room to progress and become even better?

About making rps:

Make a unique idea

Flesh out the idea on you own

Edit the idea

Present to forum for revision

Recruit and opening group of rpers

Start and pace rp appropriatly.

OFF TOPIC: Comedian,I dont want to appear or too anxious, but I posted in Flooded and I think it was one of the the best posts of my Rp'ing career thus far..I guess the really good Ideas only come After 10:00 PM.I was also kind enough to post pictures of everyones firearms for the less gun-savvy among us.

ON TOPIC:I say mods should crack down on RP Overposting,so that theres some kind of waiting period {1-2 weeks}between posting new RP's or fanfics after closing one,so that people cant post a new RP two days after their last attempt failed.This would also mean that new writers can sieze oppurtunities to post without too much competition while the "Veteran" authors are in their cool-down periods.Because lets face it,what would you rather see,a starting-out fanfic by some newbie noone knows,or another epic from skippy the waster {Writer of http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=994184} or the divine writings the esteemed Dracth{Author of the breathtaking http://www.gamesas.com/bgsforums/index.php?showtopic=978817]}

It's sad to think not many people are actually going to read this...

SCAR was a quick thought and now I've refined it during the whole thing, I've gotten the whole idea for the whole thing and MAYBE a sequel since about Post 80'ish. Speed is something that most people are thinking of now...

Anyone heard of a book called 'In praise of slow'? It's a great book my very sick Mother was reading while I was down visiting her... It tells that people rush too much to do little things that don't even need to be done when you think about it. Time is something we all have yet we waste it... Just my opinion and that doesn't count for much. ;)

I fully agree with this, every one of those Rps are great. But I only get to join two, I would join all of them but only when I'm finished with the two Rps I'm on. Then of course I can't join the ones I want and I must wait...
Then make a new Rp just to annoy you all :). Joke ;)

I do agree that reading the veteran's work is great, but, I like to see new people post as well. Sometimes a really great story comes from the new people and it's always nice to see the vets give their input to the new aspiring writers to help them improve when needed. We need to keep the veterans posting, but at the same time we need to help cultivate and encourage the new writers.

As for limiting the amount of RPs that are run at one time, it's not a bad idea, but do we really want to stifle someone who is creative and truly does have a good idea?

Well, unfortunately I learn the hard way that there is a big difference between story rp (this forum) and battle rp (where I came from). I can't write for crap and found I need to spend more time writing posts but with battle rp I use my superior knowledge to create a great thread. I think I need to hone my English skills (which are non existant)

Wow, once again an elitist attitude for some members of this forum. However, I am going to make the following points -

There will be no limiting the number of RPs posted, just the number any single member can run at once.

The answer is simple - if you don't want to join an RP just don't post. There is no need to enter it to criticise it or say you are not interested, just ignore it and if there are no takers it will quickly fall off the bottom of the forum.

Everyone is given an equal chance on these forums, whether they be new members or old hands, there will be no "I am better than you because I have been here longer". The new members are here with enthusiasm and want to give something a go, so let them. Either be helpful and supportive, or be silent. Those who are destructive in their comments and criticism will deal with myself or another moderator.

Remember guys/gals, if you perceive a problem speak to a moderator and let them sort it out, that is what we are here for. This topic is gaining nothing for this forum, I am closing it.
