Okay, just tested that No Refraction Spells, and sadly it didn't work. so, next option?
That mod, I learned, only applies to six spells, and not the common ones like Fire and Heal etc.
I also tested and averaged my results of fps drops (when I cast magic) at certain locations.
outside the Sewers, facing the Ayleid ruins drops to 27 from 38
just inside the gates of the Market district, facing the gates drops to 54 from 81
just inside Sideways Cave, far shot drops to 30 from 45
near shot drops to 28 from 40

So, as you can see it can drop anywhere from as low as 11 or 12 to as great as over 25. But it definitely takes a chunk out of my fps. And that's not even when I'm fighting. So if you've got any more suggestions or recommendations, feel free, 'cause I'm pretty desperate.

I discovered to my surprise that OBSE (w/o Streamline) hits my fps at about 11 frames per second. so where I had run an easy 38 in a certain area, I now ran a somewhat distasteful 27.
So exited out and added in streamline, expecting it to make up for the loss. well, it did, but only about 5 of them. So I came to the conclusion that I guess on my system Streamline with OBSE actually decreased my fps by about 5 FPS.
So I took them both off.
Can you tell me where I went wrong, because I know that all these ppl who download these two files would have surely noticed something by now if my Oblivion is the same as theirs.

Err...no offense to you, but I'm not going to try to help you in this particular thread since your problem has nothing to do with the topic. As much as I do appreciate the free bumps to keep this topic alive, you should open up a new thread of your own and post a dxdiag in it describing your problem...you'd get more help that way and people won't feel like they have to read through three pages of stuff that has nothing to do with your problem. I'm a 360 user, and currently have not hit this animation bug yet but am looking for some more info on when I might expect it to hit. I didn't know about this bug until I started reading a bit of Shivering Isles info over on uesp.net.

Last month I picked up Oblivion for my 360 with the intent of building a nice beefy character so I could stroll through KOTN and then blitz through the main questline & a guild or two before progressing to Shivering Isles. (I had purchased Oblivion for the PC when it first came out and turbo played through quite a bit of it, in all of it's buggy yet fun glory. Ended up getting too frustrated with quirks/bugs and put it down. Revisited it after a few months to discover mods & patch releases that let me finish the game. I loved the game, but had made terrible choices while developing my character.)

Current Info:

• Xbox 360
  
• Currently have 257 hours shown on my most recent save
  
• My save counter is already incremented over 1000.
  
• The in-game time elapsed shows as 324 days.
  
• Horse Armour, Spell Tomes, KOTN are installed.
  
• I'm patched to whatever the most recent patch is from Xbox Live.
  
• I use fast travel about 95% of the time whenever I'm going somewhere.
  
• I use the "wait" button quite a bit, whenever possible in fact.
  
• I estimate at least 50% of those 257 hours were spent sitting at menu while I either researched something (I'm using a spreadsheet to do the efficient leveling thing this time around 5/5/5, and a checklist to ensure I'm snagged my wish-list of loot) or just forgot to exit the game.
  
• My character is level 22, but I'll bump him up to my target level of 25 before I install Shivering Isles.
  
• Fighters Guild Done
  
• Thieves Guild Done
  
• Mages Guild Done
  
• Main Quest : still have to duke it out with Mankar in Paradise
  
• Daedric Quests: All except Sanguine & H Mora.
  
• Oblivion Gates Closed: uhh, low 40's (love those Sigils more than Skittles! :rock: )

I really want to take my time going through Shivering Isles (I sped through the regular Oblivion quests just so I could enter SI with an experienced character), but am a bit freaked at the prospect of hitting the quest ending Sheogorath Palace bug.

I've read that PC users hit this animation bug usually around the 200 hour mark, and console players hit the same bug anywhere from 300 to 500 hours.

• Are these "game hours" that players are quoting always the time displayed on the save-game info or "real" game play time estimates?
  
• Is it more likely that I'll be hitting it around the 300 hr mark, or the 500 hr mark? Or is random?

1.) The save game info.
2.) It can happen at any point between those ranges. Heck it can happen even after the 500hr mark, but that would be considered uncommon. In the past threads, I have come across players who don't even hit the bug until 600hrs, so hopefully you are fortunate enough to get to that mark. I doubt it though. I hit the bug at the 210 hour mark on the PC way back in the day in the very first thread like 2 years ago and most people get it around the 200-300hr mark or the 300-500 in-game days mark (console I believe). Unfortunately, you're just going to have to accept the fact that it WILL eventually happen and there isn't anything to do about it for console players.

I love rpg's and like to get as much out of it as I can. i.e. explore everywhere, buildup attributes, all quests, etcetera. So anyway, I encountered the bug right after purchasing Shivering Isles and Knights of the 9 off of Xbox 360... At the time of my issue there were a few posts similiar to this one (xbox 360) but none with any solutions. I called Bethesda tech, was sent to Xbox 360 tech and was pretty much told that it was an issue with high end gamers and they were "hey, look over here guy". Anyway, although I spent sixty dollars minus Uncle Sam I was satisfied enough with my accomplishments in Oblivion to not be frustrated over the purchase. However, I had just bought Shivering Isles and Knights of the 9 off of Xbox Live for over thirty bucks and unless I wanted to run around looking like a starpop with bad gas and or constantly have to change out weapons to get doors to open, my Oblivion playing was at a stand still. So, I did what 99.7% of the people who had this problem with the xbox 360 and began playing something else until a patch would come out. After getting the same email response as mentioned earlier in this thread a year or two ago, two plus years later nothing has been done about it. However, I can still purchase knights of the nine and Shivering Isles for my Xbox 360, of course they have the same disclaimer attached as every other download but nothing to even suggest if you play a character you've vested time into the only way to experience the expansions would be to start a new character and hopefully complete the game before your character became too experienced?!?.

But other than it preventing entry in Sheog's Palace it's more of just an annoyance isn't it? I've read that this animation bug can prevent some doors from opening but I've presumed that this was a temporary problem (i.e. leave the area, return later and it should open). Or can doors be permanently stuck closed?

I guess I'll quickly finish up the main quest and then flip a coin on buying SI or not. Argh.

Yeah I could get the doors open by changing weapons, although it wasn't acceptable by my standards to keep playing for more than 10 minutes. If I get around to it I may try and just delete all the ingredients and what not I have stored throughout the game to see if that helps, but chances of that are slim. Everyone I know who has tried to max out their character has experienced this problem on Xbox 360 only they didn't voice their issue like I did. Think I'll just wait for Fable 2 come out and call it a day.

I have had this glitch for about 2 years now (I think). It hit my game right after I had downloaded SI for the 360. I refused to play through SI with the glitches effects active, so I have not experienced the expansion and I guess never will. The "doom glitch" hit my game at 403 hrs of elapsed game play. Over the past two years I have put Oblivion back in every once in a while in the hopes that a patch had been released that would fix my game. Sadly the fix never came, and never will. I'm writing this to every 360 user that has or just got the doom glitch to let them know that they are not alone, and I definitly feel thier pain.

The fix is quick and easy. THANKS!!

On the topic of WinDVD, I was actually having a problem for a while where clicking on some video files in Explorer would cause Explorer to crash thanks to a particular DLL.

Removing WinDVD and consequently the faulty DLL file cured the problem! I'm currently using GOM Player with some free codecs to play DVDs, or Nero ShowTime which came with my burner. I use either one depending on which performs better on different DVDs.

I haven't played any one game of Oblivion long enough to encounter the A-bomb yet though.

Good idea. It's always a better idea to throw a game away rather than starting a new one or trading it in for actual MONEY :rolleyes:.

The problem IS known by Bethesda. They officially ended support for Oblivion over a year ago. Even since they DO know it they won't be offering a fix since they've long since moved on to other things.

And yeah, they don't care about the consumer AT ALL. It's not like they released two expansion packs, or over 10 pieces of DLC, or 3 patches.

I'm using a Dual core with NVidia GEforce 9500 and 2 GB RAM, on high and medium settings (checked the setting first to see if that was the problem). I have a sneaking suspicion it's the video card that's doing it - I could swap out my old card and check, but I wanted to posit this first to get some confirmation.

Yeah, I recently had this problem after i dl'ed the latest version of OOO. It got to the point where it was so bad I coudln't open any desks/chests/drawers/doors i would have to ctrl alt del and shut down the game. zBobGuy's animation fixer really did the trick. It's so easy and simple. These guys that come up with this stuff don't get payed anything and release it to the pupblic for all of us to use and have that is really really nice.

I feel sorry for any ps3/xbox 360 users. They have been left under the buss. It's a shame to say the least. That's what happens though when you re-release a game that came out 2 years beforehand on PC. Bethesda is moving on to better things and TESV. It would have been nice though if they had some kind of official patch for xbox/ps3 to fix some of these problems. They have official dlc's so i'm sure they could of made an official patch for them to dl as well...they apparently don't have the resources to mess around with oblivion anymore. :/ Anyhow, thanks for all those in the oblivoin community to help us out. It's really appreciated.

I hope when TES:V comes out they don't take advantage of the situation. Example: For every mod you download you have to pay a "service fee" to the elderscrolls website for each mod you download. Or you pay a yearly subscription of some kind. I hate it when corporations use every opportunity to nickle and dime you. I hope Bethesda doesn't take that approach... or you just may see me hop off the bandwagon..along with many others i'm sure.

Playing Oblivion on Xbox (or PS3) is just no fun - like waiting for a bomb to go off. I guess I was very lucky to have gotten 750+ hrs of play before it hit, but more than a year later I'm still disappointed in Bethesda. If I understand correctly, if it weren't for the efforts of community members PC users would still be screwed as well. And this wasn't just any glitch - it was a fatal game-stopping error. Boo Bethesda for not fixing and continuing to profit off what is essentially a broken game.

Boy and to think I might finally give in to consoles in the last year ... NOT!

I thought some might find this useful and I didn't read the whole thread, but I've been running several mods lately on the GOTY edition and start my games with the OBSE file extender. When you go to edit/mod your savegame file in OAF it will not work with the OBSE save files ... but find the corresponding .ess file and it will work. That is the "Fix-Me" button becomes available. I'm still a nOOb when it comes to a lot of this stuff and there was no mention in the "Read Me" file regarding this, and I don't quite understand file associations. But I just continued where I left off in game and all seems to be OK ... whew!!! One thing that was odd though when I went to look into load games there were two quicksaves and I couldn't distinguish which was the OAF file and which is not. And other peeev of mine you can't even name the saves in Oblivion like you could in Morrowind without a Mod.

All in all SHAME ON BETHESDA this is so not like them .... there are so many good games out now that I may skip "Fallout 3" as I find this situation with Oblivion unacceptable ... MY POOR FRIENDS WITH CONSOLES!!!!

Question: When I check my Demographics tab, I can see "Days", "Number of Quests", "Jokes Told", "Hours Slept", "Hours Waited", but I cannot seem to see the specific 'Hours this Character has been played'. Am I blind or do I need to calculate this magic death number?

I'm on a PC, so I am not too worried, but I would like to know how far away 'The A-Bomb' is.

If you go into the in game save / load menu, it prints out the number of hours played for the currently selected savegame (additionally it's also in the savegame name if you don't use custom savegame names).

Although the exact answer only Wrye Bash can give you. It can give out savegame statistics of how far the abomb counter has progressed .
