Slow stimpaks

Post » Sat May 04, 2013 10:16 pm

Hello. I would like it if stimpaks took a long time to work like in New Vegas hardcoe Mode. I've experimented with the duration value (30sec) but what that seems to do is heal me continuously for 30 seconds, so a complete heal. Which is not what I wanted.

Is there a way I can slow it right down? My goal is for stims to be slow so you can't spam them in battle. You can use one then you have to wait for 30 seconds while it works, then use another.

I would appreciate any help.

You need to adjust the value as well as the duration. So if it heals 30 points instantaneously, then you need to set the value to 1 for 30 seconds. That will amount to the same thing in the end.

Terrific! Thanks a million.

The only other thing I want is if Stimpaks can't heal crippled limbs. Is that something that can be done fairly simply?

Quite easy to change. Bring up the Stimpak entry and where it says "Restore Health & Conditions" on the right-hand window, double-click that to edit the entry.

Change the Effect to "RestoreHealth" instead of "RestoreHealthStimpak". Do the same for the other "Restore Health & Conditions" entry.

In-game it'll still let you apply a Stimpak to a crippled limb but it won't heal it so don't worry.

However if you're using a mod that makes changes to Stimpaks already you might be better off changing the Base Effect of Stimpaks. Under Base Effects look for the entry "RestoreHealthStimpak" and open that up for editing. Under Archtype change that to "Value Modifier" instead of "Value and Parts" and save it. This will also stop Stimpaks from healing crippled limbs just as the other process does above but without making changes to Stimpaks themselves to prevent potential conflicts.

Another thing you might want to consider is adding a condition that prevents your character from using healing chems while in combat. If you open up the conditions menu and scroll down, you'll eventually come to a condition called IsInCombat. Set the value to 0 and you won't be able to heal in combat. You could also split the effects like GhostNull suggested and have half of the healing be RestoreHealth and the other half RestoreHealthStimpak, then add the IsInCombat condition to that part of it. That way you'd be able to heal your hitpoints in combat, but not your limbs.

BTW, if you've played New Vegas at all you've no doubt seen the graphics for Super Stimpaks. Well that artwork exists in Fallout 3 but is not being used anywhere, so you could split the healing between the two different versions. Have Stimpaks only heal hitpoints, and the Super Stimpaks do what current Stimpaks do now.

Thanks guys. I can now finally make my mod... and I saw this that does nearly everything I want it to.
