Slow Time Shout

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 12:35 pm

Hey, about this shout; I have an idea about the cosmetic effect of it. How cool would it be if it affected the music? I mean, if you shout it, when everything around you slows down, game's music also slows down for the duration. I think it would make the player feel the effect on a deeper level :).

I'm really fond of game effects that manipulate the music in cool ways, especially since playing portal 2 with the propulsion gel.

I'm sure BGS have thought of this. :)

I personally think they are unlikely to slow the music but more likely cut the music and reverberate the sound effects during the slow mo... Thats what i'd do anyway, but hey... i dont make games!

Slowing the music wouldn't work because it looses the feel of slowing time in the game, and makes it feel as though you are just slowing the game if get me.

(I do a little work for sound effects and soundtracks in my spare time - i tried exactly what you mentioned first but it didn't feel right in the sequence) But yes there are many wonderful things that can be done with the sound to make the slow motion seem imense!

It depends on how do you do it, I'm into audio editing myself so I know what you mean. You can not only slow down the pitch, but actually slow down the sound lowering it too, wich would be good if it applied in the same way to all of the sound - the voices, effects etc.

Poll added.

Why would the music slow down? Background music is outside of the game world. Sound effects on the otherhand should be affected.

Agreed, instead i think they should have some epic music especially made for the Slow-Time battle effects

Not really fan of the slow time ability at all. If it was an option that said "No slow time dragon shout or ability at all!" I would choose that.

This is kinda off topic but will the time slow shout thing also affect the character? or will the world around you slow down and you jjust be completly unaffected?

You can just use another dragon shout instead.

What just went into my mind... (doesn't have anything to do with the music which should stop and you will maybe hear a slow breath and heartbeat sound instead)
What do you guys think, will those shouts effect everything around me or will it just work while I am in combat?

Cause I would really like it to slow down an entire city as a thief to example or when you stand on a mountain while the sun goes down and you can have an epic slow-mo-view from the landscape with maybe some dragons flying somewhere far away in slow-mo ^^
Hell that would be awesome!

Well in games this usually represented by the game actually getting slower and your character being able to move normally. Also works for super speed in some games. I think Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines had an effect like this for super speed. Been a while since I played it though, I may be wrong.

The issue with this is that the ingame music is a certain quality, so it would actually sound really crappy slowed down. If anything I think that would kill the effect if there is suddenly slowed crappy sound coming from your speakers... :/

Still don't like the idea of slowing time. Just feels wrong to have it in the game at all...

Kinda like how guns would be in the game (hypothetically). That would feel very wrong as well, but I could still "just" use another weapon instead and ignore guns. I think you get my point :P

In most games im playing I turn the music off or very low, dunno how that's gonna be in skyrim... But I guess, if nicely done, I wouldn't mind if the shout affected the background music :)

This.^

While I'm generally opposed to the elimination of things just because they don't seem to fit (with the exception of obvious things, like scoped Dwermer[sic] sniper rifles), I really find the whole idea of this slow-time shout to be embarrassingly gimmicky.

Yes - I can just choose not to use it, just like I can (and do) choose not to wear that glow-in-the-dark t-shirt my Aunt Martha gave me, but still.....

Anyway - carry on. I just wanted to get that out.

Sooner or later, I'm going to have to vent my opinion of the stars lighting up to match my perk choices too.....

Mmm... why is it wrong? Dragons are entities related to time. A Dragonshout to slow time fits perfectly, in my opinion.

Yeah, but sadly though... they're probably not going to go away before 11/11/11 :(
Otherwise they wouldn't have been in the game in the first place.

So I guess we have to deal with them somehow...

I'm personally gonna try them out and see if I actually like them in-game or not. Most likely will dislike them. And if so, I'll either mod them out somehow or just ignore it and use other shouts like Dragonborn1 said.
I hope the other dragon shouts aren't like this. If they are, then it's going to be a thumbs-down in that aspect of this game.

I think it just feels a bit cheaty and lame with the whole slowing time thing. I also don't like the concept in general of slowing time. Belongs in Fable games and Blockbuster movies imo...
It's kinda like with guns. They simply don't fit in TES imo. Same with slowing time.

I'll probably just mod it out. Should be fairly easy. Just find where it is in the Creation Kit and replace the effect with some other effect or etc... assuming it's that easy :P

Eh, why? The music is not actually in the game, you just hear it, it's not like a full orchestra is following Dovahkiin.

Well, for me, it wouldn't have fitted in past game. It's not something that I can see as an ordinary magic effect. But know, you are Dragonborn and you wield these draconic powers. For I have seen in the videos, I would say that this time, the PC is more powerful than ever before, so I see these kind of things fitting in the game, and in the lore behind your character and the world.
