Slow time

Post » Wed Dec 14, 2011 11:45 am

I've been using the slow time shout recently, but is it just me or is it kind of pointless? What's the point of slowing time down if I'm slowed down as well? I'm just not really seeing the use in it... granted I only have one word but I really don't see a point in a longer version of that. I could be missing something.

They are slowed more then you. But mainly in that slow state you can make choices better

If your brains can't react fast enough in combat then there's a point in using it.

I thought the exact same thing when I first got it. However it can be used like the Archery perk where time is slowed while your bow is drawn back. Shout + Dual cast at long range would be kinda sick. Sometimes is really difficult to hit moving enemies with spells.

It gives you more accuracy with anything time sensitive. Maybe you are an archer and are low on health, you are cornered have have to land the next two shots or you are dead, it gives you the ability to ensure you hit.

The shout has it's uses, and is there if you need it.

The slow time shout lets you slow time down to make better actions in a fast pace motion. if you unlock the highest level, time slows down by 1.7x and you move slightly faster.

You see this Dragon flying right above you? Now you have the time to pelt it with fireballs.
You see that Draugr Deathlord preparing to unleash a shout of his own? Now you have the time to stagger him, paralyze him, soul trap him, and fireball him to the stone age.
You see that mob of town guards chasing after you? Now you have the time to turn around and equip fireball.

The other day I was in a dungeon and used slow time to get by a moving trap jobby. Worked well for that. :celebration:

This. I find it really handy as I play like a battlemage, so I throw spells until I run out of mana, then use the slow time shout so I can strafe any ranged incoming attacks while closing distance and switching to my two handed great sword. You'll really notice how much it helps doing this since switching from magic to a 2H weapons normally takes long enough that any ranged enemy will get a couple shots off while you switch, but with slowed time you can easily dodge all that and take them out before the shout is over, generally. It sounds like you only have the first word so far too - once you get the other two it's pretty damn useful, especially if you want your damage out put to come from a skilled method so you level up more, instead of using a shout for damage.

if you had difficulty when to block and stab enemies at the same time, it's pretty useful

LMAO. Maybe you misunderstood my point. Yes, they are slowed slightly slower than you. But not so much so that it's much of a difference than regular game play. The timing is still basically the same, things are just slower. No need to ever use it, it actually aggravates me more than anything. I "thought" it would be something where I could get a few extra shots/hits in. Not... what it is.

If you would stop trying to flame people you would understand that I obviously had a different idea in mind of what slow time would be. But thanks for your reply.

slow time is my favorite shout, especially rank 3. Its very helpful on master and you get bombarded with mobs. Defense and Offense in one.

Well, constantly pausing to chug pots or delay the action is considered cheese by some... So that is another reason slow time is there.

Slow time is useful for accuracy on distant targets. I am a mate and I sue slow time often.

I guess I can see it's viability in a mob type situation, mob type situations go against my play style but I can see how it would help. I guess I had different expectations of what it would be... well it is what it says. I would just like to be slowed less, this shout is marginally less useful for archers. Ignoring the fly by dragon scenario.

Still would there not be better shouts for mob control? How is ice form? I would think that helps as well.

Edit:
You get a slow time perk for archers under the archer tree, you have to invest in zooming in but that helps as well. If you're sniping distant targets that would be just as good.

Brilliant. I'll have to remember that! I've been using whirlwind sprint and just taking one on the chin if I screwed it up.

There's a youtube video somewhere that shows just how fast you actually are in relation to everything else when you use the shout. I believe using the 3 word shout you're basically faster than a fired arrow which is REALLY fast.
