[RELz] Slower Levelling

Post » Fri Feb 18, 2011 9:10 pm

Let me just say this Mod looks great, im your classic goodie goodie so i wonder every where looking for people to help. lol

But im having a problem i am using very slow levelling on hard difficulty...like many folks have asked about when i check the mod on uisng fallout it does not stay checked ... I used FOMM to check it but now im not usre if the mod is on or not i have seen refrences to getGS and a mod.txt what i would like is a way to verify that the mod has been turned on. Buti can not find any mod.txt and do not know the varible for getgs. Am i missing some steps using FOMM beisdes opening it up checking the mod and pressing the X?

thank you

What I did after installation of the Mod (FOMM was not working for me at first) was to check it, then open the .txt-file located somewhere in /documents and setings/yourname/.../Fallout3/ (NOT the fallout3 folder in "My Documents") to see if it was there.
I started FO3, had a look at the necessary exp to get to the next level, quit, deleted the entry in the .txt file and restarted it, checked again the necessary exp. for next level and compared.
The first few levels are gained pretty fast, even with the mod.

P.S.: I'm at work right now, so I can't tell you the exact name of the .txt-file but iirc there should be some post or link about it in this topic.

yup, for XP users anyway its plugins.txt located in /documents and setings/yourname/local settings/application data/Fallout3 its hidden so you have to unhide files to get there...
thank you much El Zoido!
Now im just waitng on the G.E.C.K i loved playing with the oblivion CS.

Type this into the console to check if the mod is active in your game: getgs ixpbumpbase

It should return an integer number such as 225 depending on which version of the mod you're using. Use setgs instead to play around with the numbers if you're curious what small and large changes to the default of 150 does to the amount of XP you need to level up. A setting of 200 yields a required xp value for level 21 of an even 42,000 FYI.

Anyways, something odd I noticed that may be more of a FOMM issue than something directly related to this mod. I was trying out a gameplay tweak mod that altered a number of GS settings (Mark's Gameplay Mod if you're curious) and he has an alteration for the xp bump value of 300 - about 61,000 XP for level 21. I placed this slower leveling mod after Mark's in FOMM's load order thinking it should simply override the same setting based on loading last. That didn't appear to work howerver - even with the "Slow" leveling version which has a value of 225, I could never get the game to show anything other than the XP value that corresponds to a setting of 300. I finally had to delete the GS in his mod with TESnip in order to get the 225 setting from this mod to stick. Or I could have edited the setting in his mod directly I suppose but, meh I didn't.

Not sure why this didn't work as mods that load later always override GS values for earlier mods in Oblivion loading lists but I figured I'd mention it as something to be aware of if you use any of the many "all-in-one" game setting alterations floating around right now.

I would like to only change exp needed to pass level, not earned experience, i play very hard and explore much, i wish to reach level 20 when most of the game is done and i miss only the last few location of the main quest.

I feel that if i use slower leveling LITE it will still be too fast. Extremely low leveling Lite may be better. Still, i would like to know how much experience my playstile will earn me till the end and eventually fine tune the proper variable to scale needed experience in order to achieve lvl 20 at about 90% this value. I feel this is the best way to tune a slower leveling mod.

Has anybody such an information? If i explore quite everything, kill quite everything, hack and lockpick quite everything and do every quest in the game, at last, i will end the game with about how much experience in your opinion?

Thanks, that's exactly what I came to get.

I seem to be having an odd problem, or maybe I just don't fully understand what this thing does. Warning, I'm not much of a modder type but I know how to activate them.

So... I DL slowerleveling and unpack it. Put it in my data folder. It shows up in my list of files at launch and I check it off. I am not experiencing the issue where the file becomes unchecked like some other XP users.

Yet, when I get in game, I am unable to detect much of a difference.

Now, I thought the mod does two things, it reduces the amount of XP you get for various things, but also increases the amount of XP you need to get to the next level.

All well and good, but why then, when I start a new character, does the amount of XP shown to get level 2 is 200? Shouldn't that be 400? I was not expecting ro level as I normally do when I first exit vault 101, but that's exactly what happened. The next level also appeared to not have a modified level and I leveled up after disarming the bomb, again as I normally would.

This is the only mod I'm using. All that shows in my data files are fallout3.esm and slowerleveling.esp. Both are checked, and as I mentioned the .esp file does NOT become unchecked if I exit the game and look at it in the launcher.

Dazed and confused for so long it's not true. :)

Anyway, I'll use the above command to see what happens tonight.

Hey, I wanted to ask:

Is it possibly to:

- increase the level cap to 40
- cut the amount of skill points per level in half
- only get a perk every 2 levels
- XP per level should be like vanilla (but with 20 additional levels)

I would prefer this over a plain "more xp per level needed".

Ok, well the GETGS command returned the proper value of 300.

I guess I really don't get this. :)

I'll try playing on for a bit. I'm only level three. Perhaps the effect is more pronounced at higher levels.

I still don't get why the amount of xp to get to level 2 was only 200 though.

I play at normal difficulty.

I too am having a difficult time deciding if this is really working correctly. I ran the "ixpbumpbase" and it returns 400 as it should, but as far as I can tell I'm still leveling up as quickly as usual. Also, it doesn't seem to be reducing the XP I get from kills. I tested this with a very early save in Vault 101 just after I awaken. Killing a guard with this installed gets my 15xp. Removing this and relaunching the game and killing the same guard also gets me 15xp. Upon exiting the vault I gain a level just as I always have, and the experience bar indicates the normal progression towards level 3.

Is this normal? Am I just a twit who has bungled the install? Help!

I'm using "extremely slow" and playing on Very Hard.

Thank you for this mod. I enjoy playing by wandering and discovering the many locations and in doing so it is nice not to get to level 20 so quickly. For some reason I find the game too easy and have to attribute it to playing the other fallout games. Great game, though if anyone can make a extremely, extremely slow leveling mod, it would be great. Thanks for this one!

Thanks for the mod, I used it for a while and it inspired me to create my own version of it. just tweaked some of the variable to suit my style. Not zipping up the levels anymore :biglaugh: Thanks for the inspiration.

@ Mr_SpongeWorthy:
I'm not sure about the XP you get, at least combat XP seems to be the same for me, too.
Anyway, you do indeed level quite fast at the beginning, even with the mod.
Don't worry though, it's getting much slower after the first couple of levels. :)
In my current game I have visited most places and done most quests (and a lot of fighting) and I'm only level 16 ("slower leveling").

@stry67:
To remove the mod, delete the line in your plugins.txt file, or more comfortably, use FOMM to deactivate it.

UPDATED

Mod has been totally remade within the GECK. New versions added as requested also.

As before it comes in 2 versions. Normal version (main download) that decreases XP gained aswell as increasing XP needed to advance a level, and LITE versions that only increase the amount of XP needed to advance a level.

All normal versions conatined within 1 download and same for LITE versions. Use only ONE version at a time but feel free to change as you play as they are compatible with existing saves. So you can try one version out for a bit and then swap to another variant.

No prob, its been requested by quite a few people actually. Would probably make things a little too long for my own tastes, I play on the new 'Very Slow Levelling.esp' version and it suits me fine. However with increased spawns mods and extra content mods coming, it kind of made sense to expand the choices a little. Particularly with the future DLC raising the level cap and allowing play beyond the main quests end.

Dont forget folks, this new version is totally redone in the GECK, some things may be ever so slightly different, please let me know if you find any inconsistencies or problems and i'll fix right away.

So can this mod be un-installed easily? Say after you have leveled a few times while playing it?

Quick question, I have installed this mod (Slower Levelling - super duper extreme - LITE.esp) and a couple of .esps from MMM and just started a new game.

When I bring up the Pipboy the xp says xxx/200. Shouldn't the required xp for lvl 2 be more with this .esp? Does it just not register in the ingame display?

I'm pretty sure its installed correctly (placed in Fallout/Data,used launcher, chose data,.esm was in list and I ticked it).

I just did a quick test with the exact version your using, level 3 required 1000xp (being level 2 obviously) so the esp is definately fine. I would recommend maybe using FOMM to activate your mods and also to sort load order out. Perhaps you have another mod that changes XP values? In any case I strongly recommend using FOMM to activate your esp. If you do have another mod that changes XP values (or your not sure and want to use my values anyway) use FOMM to move my mod to bottom to overwrite any other mods values.

Cheers for reply Koldorn.

I downloaded the FOMM and ran the app - it displayed the mods (ticked) I had installed via the Data option from FO3 Launcher (MMM-Increased Spawns, MMM Zones Reset, Slower Leveling Supa Dupa Extreme and Fallout3.esm of course). I did drag your levelling mod to the bottom then launched FO3 from the option in FOMM.

Loaded my save at about XP 190/200 and it displayed same as before using FOMM, and I levelled outside Vault 101 as indicated by Pipboy XP display.

However after levelling to 2 the level 3 target is 1000.

So it seems I'm just having problems with the Lvl 2 XP req. and after the first level acquired ingame the Mod is working as expected.

Not a huge problem unless you want to get the Rivet City run done before levelling to 2 ;)

Its a strange problem, though as you say a very minor one. I hope hehe.

Anyway hope your all enjoying the slower levelling, I know I am. Well when I actually get chance to play, modding is so time consuming, but utterly rewarding. In the long run.
