[RELz] Slower Levelling

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 8:46 am

Again, thanks for your work on this, Koldorn. I really like not leveling too fast, up to 20th, with less than 1/2 of the world explored.

One issue:

My character is fifth level, meleer. I'm noticing that I'm not getting any (zero) XP for the pudly monsters like the Bloatfly and Radroach.

I would think I'd get at least 1 XP for such kills, particulary given her low level. Of course, I was always an advocate that you should -never- get zero XP.

Still, you get to eat 'em, I guess. Even if Radroach tastes like old feet. :yuck:

Make mine a Mole Rat Wonder Meat burger, topped with radioactive mushrooms! With a side order of Bloatfly Fries, and a Brahma Milkshake.

oh, should also note I was using an old version of Slow Leveling, upgrading it now.

Nicely done Koldorn, this is more in line with what I needed to slow down my experience. Downloading it now.

I needed 25 hours to get Level 10. Just awesome. It feels like Fallout again. Vanilla leveling was just to fast. Thank you for this great mod.

So, should I stick to slow leveling or change to slower leveling (now that xp gain for kills is signifcantly increased)?

For your playstyle I would recommend 'Slower Levelling.esp' same as I play.

Still having this issue with the updated mod or no? Because Im sure I was getting 1xp for low level Bloatfly myself today and my char is level 6.

On a side note I welcome any and all feedback folks. I dont get too much time to play between doing other mods so I welcome all input good and bad. The one thing that I will say is that all version of mod are of course interchangeable. So for instance if your finding that using 'Slow Levelling.esp' is not slow enough, go up a notch to 'Slower levelling.esp'. Of course same can be said other way around if you started out with a higher version, if your around the level 14 mark and find levels are too far apart with 'SLower levelling.esp', simply swap back down to 'SLow levelling.esp'.

I can confirm that the new version has taken away the "issue" of receiving no xp from Radroaches and Bloatflys. I've killed plenty of them and got experience every time.

Thanks again Koldorn. You've made the game playable for me. :foodndrink:

Couple of notes on 1.5:

- In the very slow leveling version, fDiffMultXPH is 0.75. This, combined with iXPLevelKillCreatureVeryEasy (default 1, unchanged) explains why you get nothing for killing a roach. The suggested change would be to set both fDiffMultXPH and fDiffMultXPVH to 1.

- Here is a list with all XP rewards that I found in the GS list and their default values. Some of these are not present in the mod.

iXPRewardHackComputerVeryEasy: 20
iXPRewardSpeechChallengeVeryEasy: 5
iXPRewardPickLockVeryEasy: 20
iXPRewardKillOpponentVeryEasy: 1
iXPLevelKillCreatureVeryEasy: 1
iXPLevelKillNPCVeryEasy: 0

iXPRewardHackComputerAverage: 40
iSpeechChallengeDifficultyAverage: 55
iXPRewardPickLockAverage: 40

Thank you for the spot, and I have updated 'Very Slow levelling.esp' with your suggested changes. Once again thanks everyone for all the support and I welcome all input and will seriously consider any suggested changes. Not playing that much atm due to doing texture mod so like I said, any input appreciated so I can keep up to date with the 'bugfixes' if they are needed. Thanks again.

Use slow version on very hard, just takes the edge off the XP gains. Which is great. Probably better if I went with slower version, but still much better. I felt too rewarded for things that are so simple and easy.

I downloaded another file fomm.7z, but I can't open it or do anything with it either.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Secondeal

Has anyone here tried the slower levling mod and played the game on normal difficulty?

My girlfriend is playing on Normal, and I'm about to start my game on hard or very hard. I'm worried that since she is using slower and playing on normal she will not get to 20. Anyone have any experience with this?

I play on normal and Slow Leveling works great. I've been playing for about 20-25 hrs and am only level 7. Thanks for this great mod!

Edit - oops, just noticed a new version. My experience applies to version 1.2

The game isn't keeping slowerleveling.esp checked off in the data files window of the launcher.

What could be causing this?

Better than trying to solve the problem with the Fallout launcher is to download this: http://timeslip.chorrol.com/fomm.html
It is the Fallout Mod Manager, made by the amazing Timeslip. It'll let you easily activate/deactivate mods and manage their load order, as well as create your own .esp files if you so choose. I highly recommend it. ;)

Ah, so Timeslip released a OBMM for Fallout 3? Kewl beans, I was a fan of it in Oblivion.

Still getting zero Xp for pudly monsters but needs more testing. It might be just killing wounded critters (not wounded by me).

The README file that I have doesn't have a version number -_- but it's dated the 9th (likely when I downloaded it)

I tried your mod out, but did not like how slow it really came down to. Even on slow, trying to gain experience was brought down to a crawl.

So instead of tossing it, I changed it up and only left the values of iXPBumpBase, fDiffMultXPH, and fDiffMultXPVH and used that to affect how long it takes me to level. On FO3Nexus, someone provided an excel tool for calculating the amount of XP you need to level based on iXPBumpBase (by the way, changing this value exponentially increases the amount of XP needed to get to 20, high values means it will take hours to gain a level). The higher the value, the more XP you need, thus slowing down your leveling.

Question regarding slow and slower.

I'm playing the game on very hard and have the slower mod.

My girlfriend is playing on normal and currently has the slower mod( on same computer) I'm worried the exp will be too slow for her. If I download slow, can I choose slow or slower when I start the game by checking and unchecking the ticks marks under the data when I load the game?

Thanks,

Tharty

I don't know the cause, but if you check your plugins.txt file, you'll see that the mod's been added to the list (and you'll see the raised number to reach the next level whenever you start the game). I've noticed this with the other mods I have, and I think it's somehow related to there not being a construction set.

I'm playing on normal. Yes, it seems to be possible. I'm level 15 (almost, nearly there) and invested 45hours into the game. At the moment i have 19 or 20 quests solved (not counting the ones that aren't listed in the questlog). I'm not very far in the Mainquest, just found Dad. I did a heck of a lot exploring (110+ locations) and have a awesome lot of fun. Next quest i'll do is the Reilly Ranger's Quest and the Sidney Miniquest for her SMG.

i like the idea of this. im playing the game again on hard and ive noticed that im leveling real quick, which i dont particularly like.
i feel that 'hard' should actually increase the time needed to level and not decrease it. oO

I want to thank the creator for this, use the slow version with Very Hard and it just takes the edge off enough to still allow me to get XP without it feeling a chore but also takes off enough that I don't feel like I'm rewarded for mundane tasks.

Cheers!

Added LITE versions of all 3 mods. Difference is that only the amount of XP required to advance levels is touched. Nothing else, so no reduction in lockpicking or mine disarming XP or combat XP reduction, just amount of Xp to advance levels touched. Read included doc for info.

I'm trying to decide between this and the BetterPacingMod and i prefer the idea of raising the amount of XP required for each level without adjusting how much XP you get from performing tasks but the info for better pacing states the following.

"I avoid the other solution some mods use which is to simply bump the xp required to level up by a significant marigin because it breaks the game.
Not all the world levels up around you, and if you level TOO slowly, you can get to a point where you simply can't keep up with the game (can't win hack/lockpick/etc checks)."

Is the Slower Levelling LITE mod affected by this?

Many thanks for your efforts :tops:

I might try the LITE version for my next character. I'm using Slow Leveling right now, and had another oddity. It's not the fault of the mod, though, not really.

What I did was, I started a new character, being dissatisfied with the old one, who was around 12th level. I wanted to level up faster, up to 15th, then put on the brakes, which I did.

However, it was taking foooooooorever to get to 16th, I mean really long, so I disabled the mod, figuring I'd reinstate it at 18. When I did so, I immediately leveled up two levels. Eeek.

I was thinking, yeah, I'd like to get the same Xp, but simply have the level requirements raised . . . .

---------------------
Oh, and I'm still getting zero XP for pudly kills (Radroaches, Bloatflies, etc).
