Slowfall

Post » Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:52 am

Slowfall to me was both an entertaining spell to use and a very useful spell to use in Morrowind. It would slow down your descent when falling, and completely negate any fall damage you would otherwise receive while the spell is in effect. Unfortunately, this spell did not reappear in Oblivion.

Do you want Slowfall back?

With all the mountains and high elevation in Skyrim, I could definitely picture this spell being very useful to alteration masters.

I think the game I've used it in the most was actually Daggerfall. Still, can't see a reason not to put it in. Might even prove quite useful.

Definitely! Jumping off a mountain and slowfalling just before you hit the ground would be awesome. And why shouldn't they have it in?

No slowfall spell. High places make my toes curl up with fear. I cast a slowfall spell and the danger and the fear go away.

I wasn't a big user of Slowfall. In my 100s of hours of playing Morrowind I could probably count the times I've used it with one hand.

lol isn't that the whole point of slowfall? Besides I don't remember the last time I actually fell off a high ledge in Morrowind or Oblivion on accident. I jumped off of Dive Rock a few times but that was mainly because I was working on a video of me jumping off and cleaving the Adoring Fan with a battle axe, killing him right before I died from the jump.

You have a point. But sometimes it's handy to have the option. In my opinion, it could be cool, while the game don't penalize you for not having it (not forcing too much situations where jumping down a mountain is the best move).

In Morrowind you can fly.

I really hate this argument, but "don't use it if you don't like it".

Not to necro too much, but I this is probably the best pragmatic compromise for all those who want levitation in the game. Even though slowfall can't make you get on top of that high tower on some ruin, it can at least bring you down from a high spot quickly and without damage.

Levitation can cause some game glitches depending on whether or not there are certain elements in Skyrim (such as cities with separate world spaces, as Todd Howard said there will be). Slowfall should be pretty tame though.

Oblivion made me miss the scoll of tinur's hoptoad

Or wind walking

Invisibility with 500 points of levitate for like 2 minutes.

What would be fast way to get down from High Hrothgar. If slowfall isn't in, I need to paralyze myself and fall 700 steps down.

I voted "yes", because I, too, liked the spell in Morrowind and I could imagine that it would be very useful in Skyrim, too ... but I think it's the same as with the levitation-spell: It won't be in, since it probably would enable you to reach areas or avoid passages, the devs don't wont you to. <_<

Well if improved Levitation is too hard to be done, logically thats slowfall and jump much easy to be done in proper way, warriors have high health so they can just jump from high places take some damage and continue travel, rogues have reduction of failing damage and can jump both warriors and rogues can climb, mages must also have alternative possibility like Slowfall and Jump

Icarian Flight + Slowfall = Fast Travel

If fast travel in Oblivion was like that, no one would dare to complain!

slowfall was awesome, used it all the time in MW, I actually had CE slowfall 1 point on I think my shield amoung many other enchantments, so I never got hurt from falling. very useful.

Well i think falling off of mount hrothgar is bound to happen more than a dozen times while fighting dragons and such and i'd rather cast slow fall than reload a save i made a while back at the bottom of the tallest mountain in the world......kinda obvious at this point
Theres been more than a handful of times in oblvion where i fell off of cliffs, ledges, and other high places whil in mid combat...so low health plus high fall equalls dead and it was nice how in morrowind i could just save myself instead of reloading that save i made 3 hours ago....forcing me to quit playing for like a week lol
