2 Small To Fast Travel ?

Post » Thu Nov 05, 2009 6:12 am

so Fast Travelling Made Cyrodill feel small
Morrowind is the Same size as Cyrodill and had no fast travel and it really felt like it was Big

But what about Skyrim should it have fast travel ??? because Skyrim is small compared to Morrowind & Cyrodill in Map Size
With Fast Travelling like in Oblivion does make it feel small with no Fast Travelling like Morrowind does not make it feel small

Maybe not Fast travel like Oblivion but Transportations would be good

Morrowind was quite smaller than Oblivion actually. Skyrim will hopefully have the carts and boats replace fast travel. That might have been what they meant because there is no point in carriages if there is fast travel.

Okay, i loved Morrowind's system, with the silt striders and the mage transportation
Because it was actually realistic.....you had to pay them to give you a ride somewhere.

Oblivion was unreal, where you could just appear somewhere out of the blue.

So i voted no to Fast traveling....but i'm FOR something similar to Silt Striders, or Boat Transports or Mage transports

It has both Fast Travel and a carriage system. So you don't need to use Fast Travel. Really, there is no reason to discuss this anymore.

I like fast-travel and like to keep it on. I really don't think Skyrim is too small to include it.

I don't disparage other people who don't want it in there, but for me it's a must-have. When I only have 1-2 hours on a weeknight to play, yeah I want to get a few quests done as if I had to travel the hard way, I won't even enjoy the surroundings as in the back of my mind I know I have to go to bed soon. On the weekends, I take my time and pretty much neglect fast-travel all-together.

I am sure I will be using the carriages a lot. Possibly any other methods they may include like boats! Probably will not use the so called "magic map" method very much.

Euhrrrr... Morrowind was something between 1/2 and 3/4 the size of Cyrodiil, I think.
Anyway, for me which made Vvardenfell feel so big was how slow my character was...

Gameworld size not relative to map size. Daggerfall was about the size of Britain but then look at the http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/tt146/Ludvich/Tamriel-daggerfall-1.jpg

I don't think it can be judged if anything is too small for fast travel because it all depends on the terrain.

You only had to travel on foot across Oblivion one time to appreciate it's size. Oblivion certainly wasn't too small for Fast Travel, and I doubt Skyrim will.

This seems as good a thread to ask in as any. Has there been any real, official info on how large the game world in Skyrim is expected to be? Or is this just a continuation of apparently no one understanding what scale is?

All I've heard is Todd say that it's roughly the same size as OB, but with way more verticality, so it will feel larger.

It is going to be more or less like Cyrodiil. Todd said it will feel bigger because of the mountains.

Skyrim is about the same size as Cyrodil, (dispite it being smaller in the Tamriel map, it's the same size ingame) plus they already confirmed there is some kind of 'carriage system' and I think they confirmed fast travel as well?

No real world references, but todd said it was about the size of oblivions landmass.

It actually looks lager, but when has an Elder Scrolls map ever been to scale? Morrowind's map looks 300% bigger than Oblivions did. :sadvaultboy:

That doesn't matter. Their relative sizes are not based on the map. And, independently on how they are portrayed in the games, they are supposed to be really big, like real world's countries.

Skyrim is supposed to be as big as Oblivion, if you hate fast travel, learn some self reastraint and go from A to B on your own. I think someone said something about carriages in game so IDK.

I think skyrim is too small to use fast travel and it does devalue exploration somewhat, but i still voted 'yes' on its inclusion in the game becuase although its tempting you are never forced to used it, and some people like it.

Thats because it IS larger.

Lore-Wise, Morrowind is much smaller than Cyrodill. But gameplay wise, this is not the truth

Map size is completely irrelevant. World size is not, that's what you should have mentioned. Morrowind was 25 square kilometers. Oblivion 41 square kilometers. Skyrim is "about the same as Oblivion", so probably a bit smaller than Oblivion, otherwise they would have said "a bit bigger than Oblivion", as it's better for them.

OT:
Try walk exactly everywhere in Morrowind without taking use of the transportation system or such. It gets tedious after a while.
Do the same with Oblivion. Also gets a bit tedious, although not as much imo. Speed is faster in Oblivion and not that much mountains everywhere.

In Skyrim there are lots of mountains, which makes walking take even longer. We don't know enough how fast you run though. My guess is it would get tedious after a while in Skyrim as well.
Fast travel is pretty needed.

Fast travel will be fine in Skyrim its not too small for it, fast travel is simply a convenient way to get around the map faster, but I will probably not fast travel as much as I did in Oblivion because Skyrim's environment looks amazing. I will probably walk more to enjoy the beauty of it.

1. question: Who knows? We haven't played it yet. 2. question: It should and will have fast travel, and both OB and MW travel is present as far as I know.

This.

Also, I recall Todd saying Skyrim feels smaller because of the mountains all around, I might be wrong.
