If you can drop a Brute with one shot then you're playing at too easy a level.
A sneak attack headshot with critical with Lincoln's Repeater should easily drop a Brute at normal difficulty.

yeah, because a sneak attack critical is double the added critical damage compared to a regular critical. And yeah, I will admit I play on easy, but it is enough of a challenge for me. I haven't played any FPS games since metroid prime on the gamecube lol if that counts. So I am not the greatest FPS player. Maybe after playing this for a while it will get too easy and I will up the difficulty. For now I will keep it on easy.

Like I said, he's playing at too easy a level. My first time through I played on Normal and had no problems defeating anything in the game later on. So I upped the difficulty to Hard. And I definitely can't drop a Brute with a single shot at that level. Almost, but not quite.

Yeah. Telling someone they are playing the game on too easy a level is not terribly polite unless they are actually complaining about how easy it is.

"I love being able to drop brutes in one shot." is not indicative of someone who is looking to increase the challenge.

And like I said I haven't touched a FPS game for at least 6-7 years so I am not very good at it. How difficult you set the game shouldn't be based on what other people do. Everyone is different. That is why they have adjustable difficulty.

I am not afraid to admit I am not the best at this game. I am only 19, and when I was still in school my mom wouldn't even let me play a game like james bond golden eye for N64. She really didn't want her son killing people lol.

A challenge can be fun, but if it is too hard it just becomes irritating, and we play games to have fun so then it would be pointless.

You are you and I am myself and we have different skill levels so you do it your way and I'll do it mine.

Now lets get back on topic shall we.

I think I'll go do the arlington library thing to get the survival guide done and then do the quest for Blackhawk. After that I think I will do the main quest up to doing 3 dog's quest and get the Xualong Assault Rifle mini quest done while at the museum of technology. Then maybe I'll get Reilly's Rangers and Stealing Independence done to get syndey's SMG.

This is all good to hear. I already have a level 6 small guns character who is looking like this right now:

S. 5
P. 6
E. 6
C. 1
I. 10
A. 6
L. 9

Barter 19
Big guns 19
Energy Weapons 19
Explosives 37
Lockpick 47
Medicine 42
Melee 23
Repair 57
Science 45
Small Guns 52
Sneak 40
Speech 14
Unarmed 19

Perks:

2 Intense trainings put into luck
Educated
Comprehension
Gunslinger
Rad Regeneration
Wired Reflexes

And I got 10 intelligence with the bobblehead fyi

I am using recon armor, the shady hat, and some tinted reading glasses till I find some shades lol

I use a .44 magnum as much as I can afford to due to ammo scarcity but more so due to lack of "repair parts"
I also use a combat shotgun, Chinese Assault rifle, occasionally a sniper rifle, and pack a hunting rifle and 10mm pistol for dispatching pests using one or the other dependent on range.

I posted all that because I am looking for suggestions on things that would benefit him.
I am going the snide route through the wasteland survival guide to get +3% critical chance as it all adds up, especially with higher crit. multipliers.
I am about to do the Robco facility part, and then finish with the library.

How soon do you think I would be able to handle getting the Blackhawk, and also Lincolns Repeater. I know that the quest for blackhawk takes you pretty close to Old Olney which is full of "you know whats" (trying to avoid spoilers). I might be able to get Lincolns Repeater, I just really, really, really hate feral ghouls. Civil ones are alright though. I just hate how the run at you.

On another note, has anyone every noticed a resemblance between feral ghouls and Gollum from the lord of the rings movies. They walk kind of like him, Sound a lot like him, and even look kind of like him lol.

This is a great setup the only thing i would change is taking one point from the intellegence and putting it to strength or agility. Since when you leave the vault you can swim to Rivet City and get the intellegence bobblehead.

I personally like having Charisma of at least 4, because the Child at Heart perk is useful in a few critical areas. Like getting into Little Lamplight without having to massacre Paradise Falls (not that I don't love trashing the place, but I prefer doing it with Fawkes), blow 1700 caps (500 to get in, 1200 to buy the brats from Eulogy), or go through the whole rigamarole with breaking the kids out.

You might want to boost Melee or Unarmed a bit, so you can back up your small guns with some up close and personal skills.

QUOTE: I have acquired Lincoln's Repeater and now I am going to test it out on some muties at the mall.
Update: It works great. I love being able to drop brutes in one shot. I am now tempted to put Lincolns hat and a pre war suit and massacre paradise falls lol jk.

Yeah, I love Abe's gun. Only downside is that there's never enough .44 ammo for me to rely only on it. But it pairs well with a gun using different ammo: Syd's 10mm, or the Xuanlong assault rifle for instance.

I said that was my character at level 6 already, and that I had gotten 10 Int. by getting the bobblehead fyi.

Also keep in mind that either Perception or Strength can be boosted by two levels: Ant Sight/Might and the respective bobbleheads.

Small Guns is certainly one of the most useful skills in the game, since the majority of weapons fall under this skill.

Small guns comprise of about 75% of my weapon choices for most situations. I hardly ever have to use a big gun. I have also found that laser weapons lack in accuracy. The only times that i have to use a big gun are either when i'm getting mobbed by 4 feral ghoul reavers( happened to me today), or just getting mobbed by 4+ creatures( never really humans)

Laser weapons are actually more accurate than almost all small guns in that they have a 0 degree spread, the same as the sniper rifle. The plasma guns have a .5 degree spread which is the same as a 10 mm pistol, but they are best for close combat anyway as the projectile is slow enough to dodge at long range.

Seeing as you use mostly small guns I am willing to bet that your energy weapons skill is lower. The lower the skill in a gun class the more the gun sways back and forth which affects accuracy. At 100 skill there is no sway.
