Small Ruin's Tale problem.

Alright, so I am at the part in Ruined Tail's tale where you need to follow the Shadowseekers from Cheydinhall to the Imperial city. Only problem is, the shadowseeker's motivation seems to be bugged. For one, the horses spawn inside the city walls, even the one I am supposed to ride, and all of the assassins or whatever I'm supposed to follow just stand there.

Now, I looked up this problem on the RTT guide. And did everything it said, as in, fast travel and wait a few hours in hopes it will force them to teleport to me. No dice. I tried loading a previous save, waiting, fast traveling, saving, reloading, running in front of the shadowseekers naked, and killing everyone in town, but they never budge from their spot in front of their headquarters.

Tried looking up this kind of problem on the forums, but found nothing. Any ideas?

What version of Better Cities are you using, and have you toggled on the Open version of Better Cities for any city, assuming you're using one of the more recent versions which includes this option?

I'm using the most current one, I'm quite sure, and definitely chose to NOT include any open version of a city.

Your load order is not correct

you have OOO.esm loading after MMM.esm and MMMForOOO.esm, when OOO.esm should be loading before it.

also you have OOO.esp loading after MMMforOOO.esp has well..when OOO.esp should be loading before MMMforOOO.esp has well..

Please Use BOSS to sort your load order and see if that fixes the problem..

Were you already part-way through the Ruined Tail's Tale quest before you installed Better Cities or before you installed the BC patch for RTT?

Ah, thank you, I will correct that.

From what I recall, the horses are supposed to spawn in the city worldspace, then follow the NPCs as they walk to the gates. Once outside the city they mount the horses and ride away to the IC.

Were you already part-way through the Ruined Tail's Tale quest before you installed Better Cities or before you installed the BC patch for RTT?


I've had to re-install Better cities while in the middle playthrough of RTT, so yeah, I think.

That could be the problem. While I always try to ensure that a BC patch should work if installed when the conflicting mod is already partly played through, it is impossible to guarantee that it will work.

Ah, Well, as suggested, I re-ordered the reccomended .esp's and .esm's, but the game froze on startup, so instead I tried deactivating the mods and re-activating them in the correct load order, but I've now run into another problem. The game now freezes whenever I select "load" on the main menu. I have two manual saves and an autosave on this playthrough, one in a city, one outside the city, and one in the wilderness. Whicheverone I select, however, freezes all the same. If I turn off any mod and try to play without it, the game crashes on start up.

Wee, what a pickle. The only mods I picked at were Better cities, MMM, and OOO.

Sometimes it's too late to correct a load order, you just have to stick with what you've got.

You probably need to rebuild your bashed patch as freezing during load is one symptom that it's gotten itself out of sync.
