Small Suggestions thread

Post » Sun Mar 27, 2011 2:18 am

See title/description. Put suggestions here that you think would feasibly fit in Skyrim. I'll make some guidelines though:

1. Technology: From a technological standpoint, don't suggest anything "higher up" than guns, even the most simplistic gunpowder guns. Tamriel is essentially stuck in a specific period of time. It's sort-of like Fallout 3, in that "What would happen if America progressed technologically, but stayed in the 1950s era?"

2. Model/Animations: Don't suggest something like, "I want to see 50 different kinds of sitting animations"

That's pretty much it.

My suggestions:

-Much like in Oblivion, I would like to be able to at least see the major cities when opening my map. For new players, it was a pain in Morrowind to have absolutely no idea where to go; you pretty much had to hope you were following the right trail and didn't take a wrong turn at someplace.

-If a Hero becomes famous or infamous enough, townsfolk could whisper rumors about how famous or infamous the Hero is, or what important accomplishments he's done.

-If a Hero can own a house like in Oblivion, have it serve more purpose. Maybe certain houses can have upgrades like putting in a forge.

-I really liked how you could find an Adventurer in random dungeons in Oblivion. I'd like to see this in Skyrim too.

-Please don't leave two handed weapons in the dust like you did with Oblivion.

- Gambling minigames

- A few LGBT characters, if none are already in

- Travelling merchants

- Pretty much anything that adds to the depth of the NPC's. As you say, having people discuss your accomplishments or having a bard sing of them would be a good one.

I hope that the NPCs will only recognize you if you did something significant in their town, or in a town nearby. I hated that people in Leyawiin were like "OH SNAP, Your dat crazy foo that saved kvatch!!!" like a day or two later.

Was about to make a similar thread but more concentrated on the graphical side of things !

- Not sure if it is possible, although it has been done in many games including Bioshock 1+2, but I would love to see water effects on the Camera when you walk underneath or through waterfalls or when it rains, snows etc! For me it really adds atmosphere and is a nice touch seeing the water appear over the screen then how it leaves little droplets for X amount of time. Todd has mentioned how Bioshock was an inspiration for things like how the Plasmids appeared to sit on the players hands, is it possible this was also implimented?

- Footprints in the snow, once again not sure what Bethesda's new game engine is capable of, but I have seen a few games most noteably Uncharted 2, surely this little feature wouldn't be too taxing?

- Reflections! Water reflections, glass reflections..... Yes I think this is possible and not sure if it is implemented in Skyrim, however this is a feature Bethesda were going to include in Oblivion until they figured out that it was too much of a performance hit at the time, is it possible with the new Engine however?

- Leaves falling from tree's! Maybe it could be season dependant but I would love to see leaves falling during storms etc too if at all possible!

- Ambient noises, if you remember back to Daggerfall walking around even towns at night was a creepy experience, ambient noises and that haunting 'Veeeeeaaaannnngeannnce' was often enough to send me scampering to the nearest tavern :) I know times have changed but I think ambient sound effects were sort of overlooked in Oblivion, just because you can't 'see' something doesn't mean you can't 'hear' it! If you are in a forest settlement for example you should be able to hear the everyday goings on in the town and also hear sounds from the forest such as birds tweeting, the wind rustling, that sort of thing! I know there were Mods that helped to fix this in Oblivion but I think this is something that should be implemented out of the box.

Thats a start anyhow :)

1) In-game notepad.

2) Redesigned map scrolling. Oblivion map scrolling system is much to slow and requires several mouse click-hold-drag movements to get across the map.

3) In-game menu mouse sensitivity to be adjustable, as in Oblivion the mouse sensitivity options only relate to camera movement.

4) Check multiple items I want to sell and be able to sell them all at once, or alternatively have a drag-and-drop system.

5) More control over the items I can put into a house I own.

6) More valuable "loot" items to be stolen as in Oblivion their aren't that many items worth stealing, especially since that's my favorite part of the game.

7) Shoot bow-and-arrow on horseback.

8) I'd like the option to slow down game time in order to enjoy the beauty of a particular scene in the game as I love the wilderness, sky, and nature in Oblivion, but the sun sets or rises to fast. This would also make the feel of the game more realistic.

9) It might be more realistic if food, drink, and sleep were required every so many hours. This goes hand in hand with suggestion eight (8). This option might also be toggle-able so users who don't like this can turn it off.

10) Dinning. This doesn't need to be anymore then sitting down at a table, having some come over offer me a menu, I pick one or more items, then someone brings them over to me when their ready. This goes along with suggestion nine (9).

11) I'd like drinking wine to have more of an "effect" and be more fun in general.

12) I'd like to be able to setup a camp in the wilderness, including a camp fire where I can cook game, and a tent to sleep in.

Such a great Topic!

Agree with all your sugestions, except number one. Map should not list that which I have not visited.

Great tread.

Decorate a home from at least the inside.

Our main character should be open to random acts of crime and violence. (House break ins, random fights, pick pocketing)
I'd like a reason to go after someone and kill them.

Create camp fires. Be able to throw any objects into the fire.

Graves, and grave robbing.

Reflections are entirely possible. Call of Cthulhu had mirrors that you could see yourself in even though there was no 3rd person view. And that was for the Xbox, in 2005 I believe. Of course Call of Cthulhu was a linear game, and could be beaten in 10 hours or less, but I doubt that was because of mirrors.

Timed quests. A party that's happening tomorrow and tomorrow only shouldn't be going on 2 in game months later because I havent gotten around to finishing the quest. Or that is seriously one hell of a party, and I want in.

But ya, timed quests where them being timed make sense.

faster animals or a slower character. No more running up to a deer and punching it to death especially in heavy armor.

I agree with all your suggestions except for this one.

I just love to stand in an unknown place and do not know any thing about it until I find them myself, and I love to experience things in the video games that could not be experienced in real life.

But in this case, I say follow the real life example, and let us buy maps to uncover areas that we do not initially know, but let players who like to adventure blindly do so and do not force a fully known map on them at the beginning.

I do agrea with what you just said. I love the whole open world exploring. I loved morrowind quest style as well. I would love to be able to right little notes in my quest log/journal. As well as posting small ammount of info on my map. Such as if I should be in a area with hard to kill animals. I should put on my map this is a dangerous area. I want them to leave out the quest markers. Really I felt more like a oblivion jedi then a person running around in medievil times. My quest target is moving south of me. How am I knowing where my target is going if never meet the person. It like go to city A talk to person A. Person A tell you to meet person B and City B.. I fast travel to city B and with in a few seconds know where person B is at after reaching the city.

Really that what killed the game for me. No asking around for person B. No talking to number of npc learning about the land and what not.

I know I would have loved oblivion and fallout if they did not remove the role play from the game. I want to be talking with the npc. Learning. Finding info about them. You been in jail for who knows how long. How in the world do you even know where everything is at let alone who or what items you are needing to find.
