SMART and moving other directions

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 7:35 pm

I couldn't find this while doing searches so I thought I'd just do a new topic. Does SMART work while moving in all direction? I ask this because I recall the developers talking about how they don't like getting "stuck" on objects in other games and they want to eliminate this in Brink. So if we are strafing or walking backwards and get "stuck" on a small table or something, if we use the SMART button, will we be able to continue moving sideways or backwards over the object? If this is the case, then will we have some weird sprinting sideways or backwards? I hope Yes to the first and No to the latter.

This is actually a very smart (ha ha) question! Kudos to you, good sir!

I don't think SMART works "backwards", though. And to be honest if someone doesn't look where they are going there should be the possibility to get stuck. Just not on something like a brick which is lying in the way. But that's not too common already, anyway.

Yeah, I kind of figured as much. Worse case, just turn 45 degrees and hit smart to hop the object. I hadn't seen it asked thought and figured, "why not ask anyway."

Maybe this has already been addressed too, but you can't walk through characters on the other team, right? So if I am jumping across a big gap and someone on the other team is doing the same from the opposite direction, do we collide and just fall down? Could lead to some funny things.

I guess.
I don't know.
I can't wait for this game... and also Earth defense force insect armageddon. Just downloaded EDF 2017 and am playing that until Brink.

Yes, players of opposite teams do collide.

Not sure about the same team, though. I hope there is general player collision, but I think there is not.

I've heard there is soft collision between teammates.

Soft collision being when you can walk through teammates, but you get pushed around if you try to stand inside them.

That's probably the best solution. At least here won't be idiots on your team who block ways for their lulz.

That's good because I hate games where I try to run behind cover and some guy is just blocking my path and get shot

I just hated that, lol! :D
OMG, that reminds me of this funny glitch in this one game (oh, I can't remember which game now, lol, it was a FPS, I think) in which one of my AI teammates came in front of me
and made me get stuck and I couldn't get out. I couldn't move back or forth because I had AI teammates in front and back of me, so I gun-butted the front guy's head
and then shot him once with my shotgun, which caused him to swear at me and he stayed out of my way after that, but it was SOOOO funny!
