[LINK] Smeyeley's Area Effect Arrows (Infinity Bow Edition)

Post » Tue Mar 15, 2011 5:41 am

Searching through the back issues over at Planet Elder Scrolls, I stumbled across this mod by Smeyeley aka Pacmanius that looks as though it might be an interesting substitute for Bethesda's Area Effects Arrows mod.

Searches here turned up nothing for a release thread or the author by either nickname.

Introduction
-------------------------------------------------------------
This mod is based off a collection of two mods - Marc's Scripted Bows and the official Area Effect Arrows created by Bethesda. I really liked Marc's idea to create bows that could replenish the arrows after you run out. I liked it so much I thought I'd have a go with the scripting and see if I could improve the idea. Well I don't think I did much to improve the idea he had but I did come up with what I think is a half-way descent mod.

-------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IT DOES
-------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wondered why there was a great place under the Stilt Strider in Balmora and Bethesda didn't go out of there way to use it? Well I did. I know there are probably quite a few people who have chosen to place something there but I liked the place for myself and so I used it. This mod adds a shop right under the stilt strider port in Bethesda that sells the scripted bows. The shop is outside - no need to load an interior to get the items you want. I took a bit of time to get all the pieces in place so they all matched up. The shop sellers sell scripted bows and xbows that basically do exactly what Marc did with his bows. I added my own touches of course. The enchantments on the arrows are different - they are area effect. The bows and xbows aren't cheap. They will cost a fair bit of gold or septims or whatever to buy. The shop also has it's own guards in case you choose to try to steal these weapons. Don't think you can get them for free. I also took the liberty of adding the enchantments to throwing weapons that are also sold by these shop sellers. A very special bow is also on display above the heads of the shop sellers - very expensive and not easy to steal without being seen. Don't miss the seller who also sells a few amulets and rings - quite nice but not cheap as well.

INSTALLATION
-------------------------------------------------------------
Just place the esp in the data folder and activate it in the game just like you would any other mod - nothing else to worry about.

CREDITS AND PERMISSION
-------------------------------------------------------------
Well I think I'll have to thank Marc for his great idea that he contributed to the Morrowind community. I didn't actually use his mod but the idea is based off his idea and the scripting is mostly his just tweaked by me for my use. His permission was used so the work goes to him as well as me. Thanks Marc.

Also thanks go out to Bethesda for their great works.

As I have concluded my work on this project and also I don't even play Morrowind at this time (Played it to much and now I'm bored) I will give anyone permission to do with this mod as they seem fit. All I as is that you give credit where credit is due. If you want to add to the collection feel free. If you come up with something so great from my idea please send me an email so I can check it out. Any questions can go to me at my email address. Can't guarantee that I'll answer though as I'm mostly just posting this so everyone can enjoy it. I don't have any plans to upgrade it or anything.

Look for my other Infinity bow mod for Oblivion soon. Presently still working on it. An upload should come soon though.
Name will be under Pacmanius on Planet Elserscrolls.

Thanks

Morrowind + Tribunal

-------------------------------------------------------------
WHAT IT DOES
-------------------------------------------------------------
This mod adds 19 scripted bows using standard Morrowind and Tribunal graphics to Belinda Sharpeyes in the Seyda Neen Arrille Tradehouse.

ALL THE BOWS are scripted to create and equip their own arrows at the cost of magicka on the fly (no equiping or option selection required). Once the bow is equiped, it will create 25 arrows of the appropriate type (based on bow type), and it will autoequip those arrows. Once the arrows run out, it will make 25 more as long as you have enough mana to make them.

Thus you will never run out of arrows, and you will never need to switch to the menu to equip arrows. This was done for convenience.

If you don't mind going to the menu every few minutes to make and/or equip arrows, then I recommend you get the "Bottomless Quiver" mod from Morrowind Summit. That mod is nice but after a while I just got tired of always having to equip, and run through menus just to create a few arrows. Plus it had other issues like resellable arrows (since they all still had value), & too high a magicka cost to create even the silliest of arrows. It was just too slow, and I would rather be shooting stuff than playing with inventory. Thus this mod was born. Its not perfect, but it does the job till oblivion comes out and I refine the scripts for that game.

INSTALLATION

Simply place the esp file in data files and activate it through the game. There are no meshes or graphics or anything else to worry about.

INGAME TEXT

Infinity Bows Users Manual (book)

All the bows from the Infinity Collection create and equip their own specific type of arrows when the bow is equipped. This is both a boon and a curse for these bows will NOT equip any other type of arrows. If you attempt to switch the arrows, the bow will magically switch them back to the ones it wants.

The type of arrows created are indicated in the Bows name, for instance, a flame bow create flame enchanted arrows, while a chitin bow will obviously create chitin arrows. All summoned arrows can hit magical creatures.

Creation of arrows requires a little bit of magicka upfront. The more powerful the bow, the greater the magicka requirement for example, a chitin bow only costs 6 magicka for a bundle of 25 arrows while the flame bow will cost 30 mana for same amount. You may want to think twice before purchasing high end bows if you cannot handle the magicka cost.

You can create as many arrows as you like by dropping your current set of arrows on the ground. This fools the bow into thinking that you are out of arrows which then forces the bow to create more arrows. Of course you still have to pay the magicka cost for creating the arrows so no free lunch there.

All arrows created by these bows have no financial value, thus you cannot resell these summoned arrows. You can however use the arrows with any other standard bow if you choose.

It seemed to me that this mod had very little exposure [only 78 downloads] and is perhaps deserving of rather more if it works as the author intended. A substitute for the trip to Vivec to refill the quiver would be useful to some of us and I have found that several of the older soultrap arrow mods do not work reliably for me.

And I was interested to know how it worked for those who had tried it out?

I have tried a similar mod: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=2910. It looked neat from the screen shots. And it is.

But after a short time, I got found that I actually missed finding and selecting my own arrows.

It definitely looks high quality. I was turned off by the bulkiness in the bow's middle.

Has anyone used this mod?
And if so, how was it, in your opinion?
