I'm not sure if this is the right place for this and searching didn't help me, so here it is. I was wondering about items that have been enchanted with the smithing perk. I'm currently using two that say they improve smithing by 13% each, i have the dwarven smithing perk unlocked in the tree, and i'm trying to "sharpen" a dwarven sword. The base damage it does it 32, and "sharpened" is 46. Now, here's where i'm running into a bit of an issue. Two smithing enchanted items aren't improving the end product. I can stuff them in a chest, have them on me, or have them equipt at the grindstone, but it always says the end product will have do 46 points of damage.

I was wondering if i'm just doing something wrong, or if there's more to it than i understand. Can anyone help me out here?

If you have them both equipped and its giving you 46, then that's the amount your sword has been improved with. Does it give you the same number if you don't have them on? At low levels, you'll hardly see any change.

Same output damage of 46 if i have them on, or if they're in my chest back at the house. I'm lvl 20, and my smithing is 47.

the 2*13% smithing improves your skill 26%, up from 47 to 59 as I understand.

If you have an unimproved sword can you also just improve it from 32 to 46?

Smithing improves in steps so if you raise it a couple of levels you get an benefit. You can also get better smithing gear. You will not find any smithing body items so you should enchants some clothing with smithing even with no skill or perks you get an +8% smithing bonus.

What are the two items with the Smithing enchantment?
