No Smithing?!

Post » Sun Dec 29, 2013 5:56 am

Starting new character class playthrough soon, just wanted to know if its viable to play a warrior character without smithing (to upgrade) weapons and armour on Master difficulty? I just want to use weapons and armour at base level.

Is this truly viable?

(i will be taking the perks in armour and weapons of course, and a mix of the other trees to boot)

If you know how to time your shield/weapon bashes
If you have a lot of health and stamina
If you have good magic resistance
If you know how time your weapon swings

then yes it is possible but fighting takes too long.

Ok, I will try it. Just wanted to know if others have had great difficulty with it on Master diff.

I personally wouldn't do it. I think smithing is too important for a warrior type character. But in skyrim anythings possible I guess.

I tried it once and hated how long it took to kill. I agree that smithing is important, but it is not too important on adept and lower.

Warrior without smithing indeed sounds a very bad idea. I wouldn't do it.

Yes. It will take some time.

You can visit stat trainers(companions, for example), you can slay goats for the early levels.

If you're escaping Helgen, make sure EVERY enemy is focussing on Hadvar/Ralof(and that one Imperial/two Stormcloaks). Then, slash away!

For blocking, I'd say block weak monsters, like Mudcrabs(with potions, or you wouldn't last 4-9 hits!)

For Heavy/Light armor, just the same as blocking(with more potions!)

Depends of what you mean by viable. Remember that in master damage setting, you do 50% less damage. Might want to take the damage setting down a bit. No crafting of any kind is needed to beat the game. The perks are more than enough.

My opinion is that: no it's not viable on master.
