Smoke Free Wasteland?

Post » Tue May 17, 2011 3:57 pm

Simply put, are there any mods that either completely remove all cigarettes, cigarette cartons, ashtrays or renames/retextures them to something different?

I know it may seem a little bizarre to be concerned about this in a game full of gratuitous violence, but just curious if anyone has ever made such a mod?

Would that include removing the behavior from all of the NPCs that smoke?

Primarily I want it more so for an RP reason, I guess a simpler alternative would be a mod that removes all cigarette and paraphernalia from loot lists. Also making the items more like say a crate... where you can move it and it has physics but can't add to your inventory would work too.

I'm fine with the NPCs smoking, it's just that I don't want to find the actual items on corpses or in containers.

Man, you're taking the anti-smoking crusade to a whole new level. If you're that offended by it, don't play the game. How can you find smoking so offensive but it's perfectly alright to blow people's heads off?

Actually, its a bit unrealistic to think that there would be any cigarettes lying around after 200 years anyway.
Either they would have all been smoked, or they would have rotted away to moldy dust.
There might be some loose tobacco floating around, but there wouldnt be any cartons or packs of pre-rolled smokes.
The lack of any decent, non-moldy paper would mean that most likely there would only be poorly cured, wild tobacco smoked in pipes.

Yes I do read. I'm just getting really tired of the fanatical anti-smokers making an issue of the practice. You don't like it in the game, don't play it. It's all part of that 50's image the game is trying to portray. Back then smoking was considered socially accepted and maybe even expected.

Fanatical anti anti-smoker?

I smoke, found nothing in the op or his follow ups to be fanatical

to further clarify, I'm not an anti-smoking nut, I don't smoke, but my reasons for wanting to remove the items from the game are more from an aesthetic view point that fits with how I prefer to play, and not with any particular zealous hatred of smoking.

I didn't either. I really need to start projecting more.

OP, I don't know of such a mod, and I really like my Lucky Strikes retexture too much to do it myself, but I wonder if you could just use the Search-Replace function in the GECK? Replace every instance of cigarette cartons with, say...Fancy Lad Snack Cakes? Replace every lone cigarette in the world with a pencil? I suppose you'd also have to alter the leveled list so they didn't show up in containers.

It seems like a mod you're going to have to make, not find. *shrug*

It was about RP reasons. Thats what he said in his post. I personally find the very idea of smoking 200-hundred year old cigarettes disgusting even if I smoke in real life.

That may be the case, but think about how you get your tobacco. Tobacco would be affected as well.

http://www.mediafire.com/?jfnlm3yoguz. All cigarettes, cartons, and packs disable themselves and get tucked under the rug. A quest which requires FOSE will proactively remove smokes from NPC's and containers who have them and no Fallout3.ESM vendors should have cigarettes for sale any longer.

*lights a home made smoke*

I haven't tested it fully, but it should pretty much erridicate all cigarette misc items in FO3. Some other time, all of the idles and markers could be edited so NPC's won't smoke, but will pick their noses instead or whatever...

Perhaps more salient would be how do you get your papers. No more Zigzag to be found!
I suspect there would still be a fair bit of tobacco gone wild and to seed not too far off in Virginia, but would you really want to twist it up in a page from an old moldy book?
I'm guessing that most folk would use pipes, as they did in the old days.
In any case, there are decent (non anti-smoking fanatic ones) reasons for getting rid of all the boxed and pre-rolled cigarettes, and thanks to Justinother, it seems we now have the means also!
