Smoking Cigz In The Game? Opinions?

Post » Sat Nov 21, 2009 6:13 am

I agreed up until the part of the effects. It should maybe increase charisma, but lower endurance. Withdrawals from addictions should lower charisma, endurance, agility, and maybe even inteligence.

Smoking decreases your charisma. It's hard to stand next to someone who's breath smells like an ashtray, let alone be persuaded by them. It should increase your accuracy, since the reason most people actually smoked (like soldiers in WWII) was to calm their nerves.

Parents would flip a b**** if they saw this. Even though they would be perfectly willing to expose their kids to all the six and violence, they would complain about it being subliminal messaging or an advertisemant or some s***. Even though the game isn't supposed to be played by anyone under 18, they will still buy it for their kids and then complain about it.

I've been smoking for what now, 4 years?
Dying of cancer by a couple of cigarettes?
[censored] no. And no "radiation magic" either.
It'll take several years for you to develop cancer.
So unless there's a timeskip like in fable (when you're in the prison) I think we can skip this cancer idea.

Bah, fine. We'll just make the cigarettes burn our mustaches a bit and ruin our look. You're no fun. J/k I wouldn't want cancer in the game either if I'm being serious: it might hit hard for some people with family members battling it, etc. Guess it should just mess with stats.

Controversy = free publicity = more sales.

Anyone tries to sue and the whole gaming community finally get to say "READ THE [censored] RATING ON THE [censored] BOX FOR [censored]S SAKE" in open court.

Laws don't function along what's right. They function the way liberal society wants them to (whether it's right or wrong). No one would go to court. Parents (and Australia obviously) would just forbid their kids from buying the game and buy them gears of war 3 instead. You can shoot people in half, but you can't smoke so it's totally safe for kids under 10.

You should get limited +1 Perception or Charisma by smoking for a limited time but -1 HP/min.

I would like smoking to be in the game. In fallout 3 cigarettes were everywhere and alot of NPC were smoking. I would like Cigars as well.
I'd like to be a mobster with a tommy gun nice suit and a fedora and a cigar!

to make anti-smoking groups happy the Devs can have warnings on the packs. We can become addicted to smoking and need to smoke or we become tired and are charisma will go down. (Talking to people trying to quit smoking can be a pain/ordeal). Smoke enough and we become alittle slower and can't run for a long time. Smoke way to much and we get a cough that lowers are charisma. Have NPC that don't like smokers.

Point is smoking adds to role playing NPCs smoke but we can't.

I love the idea of smoking in a game.. The only game I've played that a character could actually smoke and there would be effects from smoking was Gothic..
You were able to smoke a weed.. that actually had visual effects attached to it.. everything would get warbly and be in slow motion for about 30 seconds.. Pretty fun little addition.. I wish all the drugs in Fallout would have some sort of slight visual or other effect to go with the stat boosts. It's already a rated mature game isn't it? Not sure why games rated mature should even be considered 'controversial' . If a parent isn't willing to let a kid watch an R rated flick why would they buy them a rated mature game.

not so sure they would be allowed to put them in the game to smoke, might be in trouble or something for encouraging people to smoke, then again if they could get in trouble for that then why don't they get in trouble for encouraging people to commit murder, theft and cannibalism !!!

That's why those people need to do a little more parenting instead of "What? You want that game? Let's see , Blood and gore , Intense Violence , sixual Themes , Strong Language , Use of Drugs...Sure why not." And THEN complaining about how bad the game is for their kids. Even if their too lazy to read what the game has in it wouldn't it be KINDA hard to miss the big old M on the front and back of the box?

Smoking cigarettes, drinking and gambling. You can't have one without the other.

I have played a lot of games where the main character smokes, so i don't think it would be very controversial and it would be a big + to roll playing.

They should only include cigs if they add to the atmosphere. Make us addicted...give us heavy labored breathing when running, have us cough up blood and get an incurable disease like lung cancer that eventually kills us like in real life. Idk I'm not a smoker so I suppose I don't see any good reason to be able to smoke other than watching our characters slowly die. That'd be kinda fun.

Hah, that would be awesome ;)

They should add some [censored] and giggles drugs like Cigs, some LSD (could see cool stuff while walking around, non existant enemies much like the punga seeds), E (open new dialogue, just go off on complete tangents when talking to NPC's). Also if you could sell drugs for caps + negative karma would be interesting

I never understood why they didn't have that option in the game. I'd like to be able to smoke cigars, cigarettes, pipe tobacco, and maybe a cigarillo.

.. of course, then you realize that 3-4 generations have been born inside a vault, and more likely than not, tobacco was not one of those crops included in the hydroponics plans (never seen anyone smoke inside a vault in any of the games, have you?), so you had no idea what a cigarette is to begin with, until you leave the vault. And upon leaving the vault and learning about all these new things, while you can see the benefits in taking drugs like med-x, buffout, radaway, jet to survive and/or gain advantage in combat, there's absolutely no benefit to you in smoking..and given the environment, where (as rule #2 states) cardio is very important to survive, the last thing you want to do is smoke.

..maybe they can include a cut scene in the vault, when you are like 13, and other kids are pressuring you to smoke in the bathroom, with you coughing up a long, maybe a little puke...

Thats true never thought of it like that.... You don't grow up in a vault in New Vegas so the cut scene wouldn't be an option. Then again if the PC smoked then I guess he/she wouldn't be able run across the wasteland without running out of breathe. I think it should be more of an attire than a drug, that's my opinion with no negative affects, sure it doesn't teach the kiddies anything but the hell with em, once they get to high school they'll get corrupted anyways so why does it matter...

After playing with smokable cigarette mods, I can honestly say that I don't give two sh*ts.

Sure it's neat, but it really isn't necessary.

 I agree, seeing your character die of cancer... is this the new ending?

Ha, It's the smoking or the rads that are going to get you one followed by Hell Boy's famous line "War, War Never (cough/weeze/Final gasp of air/choke on own blood)"

It would be cool if it was only a "decoration" for your character with no effects. I just want to make a Clint Eastwood character.

Cardio is rule #1. Rule #2 is Double-tap. ;)
