Um, wasn't Jericho a smoker in Fallout 3? If you put smokes into his inventory he'd start smoking them?

I always figured that was a joke. Packed full of preservatives and radiation treated for your health.
It's those damned barrels that burn forever that get me. Was that a marketing feature? Never go-out barrel fires?
I hope they allow you to smoke, but hypocritical health organazations would jump on that like flies on poop. It would had more depth to your roleplay to be able to play a chain smoking baddie though.
Is there an echo in here?
Getting shot at by Raiders, irradiated by drinking water, and stepping on land mines is bad for our health too. But that doesn't stop us from swimming in the Potomac or getting into firefights with Super Mutants, does it?
This is a game, folks. It is a safe environment in which we can engage in all kinds of activities that we might or might not engage in in real life. I think we should keep our real-world health concerns out of this discussion or we won't be able to discuss much of anything about the game at all.
hey, that'd be a whole new drift to computer gaming: lo tech AR ))
Of all the animations I would hope for them to spend time on in the game, smoking is not on my priority list.
Nah, it would be great for the economy. A cigarette costs 1 cap. Buy 20 of them. Smoke them. Go back to the vendor and find out they are 2 caps each. Buy 20 of them. Smoke them. Now you are hooked. The vendors now can set any price they like and you will pay it. Now Diamond city needs revenue. They put a 100% sales tax on cigarettes. You will pay it. Everyone will benefit from your smoking (well, everyone except you).
Smoking animations already existed in Fallout 3. It would just be a matter of letting the player use them. I'm sure they'll be in Fallout 4 too.
Personally, I hope they do this. It seems very odd to me that our characters are just about the only people in the Fallout world who can't smoke.
Todd Howard did say that all items now serve a purpose so we will have second thoughts on what to see/get rid of. Hopefully that does imply cigarettes because they were so abundant in Fallout 3. If not, then at least I can shoot them from the Junk Jet!
wouldn't need THAT much animation anyway...
just stick it to the face and go
did they? don't remember any. even a mod i used that let you actually smoke the cigs didn't have any specific animations, just the cig as a wearable "face mask" type thing.
Nova, Bittercup, Jericho, many of of the Raiders and several other NPCs smoke in the game.
really? BITTERCUP? even had her as a companion (mod), TOTALLY don't remember this... boy, there's lots of stuff i need to replay it seems
edit: wait... now you mention him, some VERY faint memory of jericho leaning against a wall, raising a cig to his mouth, comes to mind... *scratching head*
On second thought, I might be mistaken about Bittercup. So don't quote me on that. But I know that Nova does almost nothing all day long but smoke in Moriarty's Tavern.
Let's not forget the smoking animation was vanilla. So there already was smoking ingame, it just wasn't something the PC could do. Prior to using that mod, I just considered cigarettes to be a bulky form of money.
should've gone there more often...
odd, why weren't any actual smoking anis in that smoking mod i had then... or i just didn't see them through all the smoke..
anyway, about the bulky form of money: i think that in a real wasteland like that, cigarettes definitely would be among the most valuable goods one could have (it was just like this in post ww2 europe anyhow) - and they'd not be the worst form of money too: light weight, hard to fake
Yes, you could do that and it kind of surprised me but thought is was a neat idea. Too bad they didn't expand on that with other followers (not give them cigs necessarily but other things).
I am not for or against smoking in the game but I realize that anti-smoking groups would have a hey day with it. Probably something best left to modding.
You would have to ask the mod maker why he/she didn't use the animations.
became a modder myself meanwhile (fnv ff), so i could just look it up (given i find the mod in my hdd's depths)
thinking about it though, i guess i have a pretty good idea about the reason anyway: there'll likely just be no 1st person version of these anis.
