snaild in Water Life

Post » Sat Dec 25, 2010 11:38 pm

Some time ago, abot posted the solution to ending the snail problem in water life... essentially doing away with the snails. I can't seem to find that post, so if anyone knows the details, I'd appreciate hearing how to do it. That's not what this post is about though...

I like to play the sign of the atronach, and the snails made a perfect5 opponent for a starting character to pick on and get magicka restored. Because of that, I was willing to put up with the error message popping up when a snail crawls onto land. One click, the error message is gone, and you don't see it for a while. good enough.

However... after clicking on continue on the in-game message board for a pretty long time, suddenly I wasn't getting Morrowind's error message anymore, but a system error message instead. It didn't seem to make any difference at first, but after a while the game would freeze when the error message came up.

All of a sudden I couldn't go anyplace where there was water, because as soon as the area began to load the system error message wouyld come up again the game would freeze an require me to restart my computer.

I've just completely removed Morrowind from my computer along with all the pug-ins, and I'm reinstalling it all now.I was wondering if this had happened to anyone else, or if it's just my computer. I also am afraid to install water life again without getting rid of the snails.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Doesn't the ring given to you when you start the mod provide an option to disable the snails?

Not in the version I have. Maybe there's a newer release. I'll have to check.

Hmm, I'm using version 1.15, and it does have the ring.

I had v1.15 too, and it had the ring, but no option to get rid of snails. I downloaded and installed v1.17 which I think is the latest, and the ring is there, but no option to get rid of snails in it either.

It's the ninth step during configuration. Here's an excerpt from the ab01wlgConfig script:

if ( state == 180 )	if ( ab01DontSpawnWarnAnim == 0 ) MessageBox "Spawn creatures giving harmless animation warnings (snails)? (Now: Yes)" "<< " ">> " "Yes" "No (Default)" "Exit"	else MessageBox "Spawn creatures giving harmless animation warnings (snails)? (Now: No)" "<< " ">> " "Yes" "No (Default)" "Exit"	endif	set state to 190	return

Setting that choice to No will prevent snails from spawning.

That's real interesting... Because I have only 8 steps in tbe configuration, ending right aftera question about drinking/filling NOM jugs.

I just went through it 3 times start to finish, and no ninth step, no mention of snails.

You might want to just download and install it again then, I can't think of why it wouldn't work. I just tried it and it was there, so it might be a problem with your installation.

I don't know, my previous install of it (1.15) didn't give me that option either.

It didn't have that option before I started having issues, then I unistalled everything and reinstalled it all including water life 1.15 and it didn't have it, and now I've downloaded 1.17 and installed that and it still doesn't give me that option.

I changed the load order to make water life almost last, and it still doesn't have the option..

Here's the load order, if anyone knows of a conflict:
  • Plugin1=Morrowind.esm
  • Plugin2=Tribunal.esm
  • Plugin3=Bloodmoon.esm
  • Plugin4=Better Heads Tribunal addon.esm
  • Plugin5=abotWaterLife.esm
  • Plugin6=Better Heads.esm

Water level and NOM 3 are new, so not likely suspects.

Sorry to butt in, but I'm thinking the upgrade didn't clean out the old ring/scripts. Did you do a clean install of the most recent version, upgrade with Wrye Mash, upgrade with a patch, or did you just unheck one full version and install the next?

There's your problem - the esp is overriding the esm scripts and probably has outdated versions.

Water Life hasn't come with an esp version as long as I can remember, it's just the abotWaterLife.esm (there is a abotWaterLifeTRaddon.esp for Tamriel Rebuilt, but it doesn't have anything to do with the config ring).

[edit] FYI: the ab01wglConfig script (what get's run when the config ring is equipped) hasn't changed since at least v1.13.

Okay, I removed the .esp and tried again... now I have a number of options I hadn't seen before like new slaughterfish and bubbles on loot, but pressing the button didn't move me through the steps. The only way to progress was with the arrows, though I guess that's okay.

The old 1.15 version I had used an exe to install the mod, so I just presumed it had correctly installed everything. Silly me...

I wonder if the .esp was what caused my morrowind meltdown over snails to start with...

Anyway, all seems well now, so thanks all!

This has nothing to do with your problem, but you only use one of these:

# Plugin18=Cait's Critters Unleashed 2.0 (Tribunal).esp
# Plugin19=Cait's Critters Unleashed 2.0.esp

Return to III - Morrowind
